If you take one of the main parking garages of San Marino and later the several escalators you will not miss this great entry to San Marino. Local policemen will stop traffic and guide you through the port into the historical center.

This gate gives a good sense of the city walls and leads to the church. This also leads to some nice shops including a tax free jewerly store.

The medieval watchtower, which is also called Porta del Loco or Porta del Lucho, was built in the 14th century and intensively modified during the next two centuries. It is an impressive, well-preserved building which is the main entrance to the city, with a uniform guard regulating the incoming traffic.

The parking lot next to the gate fills up fast but after 6pm it is easier to find a space. The shops located near the gate are fun with lots of choice.
If you walk the walls, you will have great views over the rolling hills of the Marche off to the west and if you get high enough, you can see the sea.

Fits well into the architecture style of the whole old city, nothing special about it though.
While entering, you see the plate indicating it's a UNESCO site. You can find the San Francesco and the Museum of Torture right after you pass the door.

The gate along via Piana is the entrance to the walled city. It is guarded by a San Marino gendarme (which seems to be there mostly for traffic purposes!). Across the gates are breathtaking views from Mont Titano over the hills.
Parking is available, at a fee, at a short walking distance passed the gate.

San MArino is a must if you happen to be around it. One of the most beautiful and unique places which have preserved their century old traditions.
