The Basilica of Saint Agatha of Sicily is one of the oldest churches in Ravenna, it was originally built during the 5th century, but the current aspect is due to the restorations of the early 1900s.
In April 1688, due to an earthquake, the mosaics that adorned the apse were totally lost. Then during WW II bombings, the apse was almost entirely destroyed.
What is visible now is an almost naked church, with a few traces of frescoes and some nice paintings.

On the way to other attractions of Ravenna. Not very popular, I saw just one person interested in that Basilica.
To me also just nice architecture like many others in Ravenna.

The church is nice from the outside, but was closed in the middle of the working day, so we couldn't visit it.

I liked the Basilica very much since it was a place of peace and silence and well kept and very inviting.
