Stopped for lunch while driving from Florence to Milan. Found a deli with outdoor seating overlooking the park. Nice spot but downside of driving in Italy are the ZTL restricted driving areas in many cities. These areas are not obvious to tourists and they all have camera systems to generate tickets.

In many European cities, the two main squares since the Middle Ages are the Town Hall Square and the Cathedral. There are also in Parma - Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Duomo. However, Parma can offer a triumvirate of squares. She also has Piazzale del Pace, the Peace Square. The creation of the square did not begin by peaceful means at all. USAF bombers bombed the Reinach Theater, Palazzo Ducale and Palazzo del Pilota on May 13, 1944. ((Remember Heller's "Catch 22"?) These buildings shared the fate of the destroyed famous buildings of Italy, the Abbey of Montecassino and the Church of Santa Chiara in Naples. Unlike the last and thousands of destroyed objects in Italy, the square has not been restored so far. Discussions around numerous projects have been going on for three quarters of a century. Therefore, the area is sown with grass. A temporary measure that many perceive as an architectural design. And the monument to the Italian partisans of 1956 recalls the original events. The square is not very well lit and in the evenings it becomes a place of youth gatherings. Darkness is known to be a friend of youth...

We stopped by this large place close to the Palazzo della Pilotta.
A large tree made a lot of shadows which was highly appreciated by lots of people during a hot summer day in Parma.

This square is my favourite in Parma. Usually is crowded and a lot of people is just relaxing on the grass. Sometimes there are markets or other events organised and there is last remaining piece of Verdi's monument that was seriously damaged during WW II.

In the front of the Palazzo della Pilotta a huge square, with statues - partisan and Verdi.
Unfortunately this time there was some building, digging activity in the Piazzale, so it lost its magnet.

A beautiful park with very interesting statues and history. The only bad thing about the park is all the flagrant people lying around in the park.

We found this location and twice went back to see it again. We were going to an area opposite but it was being worked on so we moved over and saw the partisan statues. There are some trees around one side which give you shade or you can sit in the sun. A nice place to stop and relax.

You have to cross this square on your way to the Fornese Theater. The statue of an Italian partisan is ok and that's about it.

It is really nice place. Looking wonderful at photos.

This attractive memorial stands out in an otherwise empty tract of land and is nicely done.If you're walking from the station, it will be among the first attractions you see. Therefore, it's hard to miss.
