It was a very hot day in Parma when we visited, and we had to wait till they open. But it was worth. This is a beautiful church with a Coreggio painting on the cupola.

Tranquil cloisters to the side of the church. Entrance is free. They sell in an amateurish way, a few postcards, toiletries and honey. A place to escape the heat of the day or just to be quiet for awhile.

You will be amazed by the art that is preserved in this religious structure. The frescoes and ceilings are amazing. we did not have to pay the entrance fee as it was culture week in Italy, but pay, it is worth it. Parma is a beautiful, small, city worth the trip.

If you are in Parma and see the cathedral you can stop by and check out this church as well. It is not as ornately decorated as the cathedral, but it is beautiful in its own way.

It seems dwarfed by the nearby Cathedral and Basilica, but the Baroque-style church has an imposing, aesthetic, captivating façade that immediately inspires you to explore it further. To compete with the two "big ones," San Giovanni has the tallest, 75m bell tower.
Both Correggio and Parmigianino took part in the interior decoration, as famous Emilian painters of the time. Unfortunately, the Correggio paintings that survived the storms of the last centuries are now preserved in museums, and the temple has been left with only the little things designed by Correggio and executed by the disciples. Parmigianino, on the other hand, has some pictures. Two frescoes on the left in the first chapel and also in the second, though it is disputed who painted it. After all, in a work of art, we should not primarily admire the artist, but the work itself. So if the frescoes are impressive - and they are - then take aside our prejudices, we should just enjoy the sight. The San Giovanni Evangelista offers many opportunities for this.

Beautifully frescoed ceilings and walls, faithfully restored not too long ago, a very short walk from the duome & baptistry.

Worth the visit to admire the beautiful columns and detailed capitals. Admire all 3 buildings in the Piazza, the duomo, the beautiful Baptistry and the Camponile. Inside the Duomo re paintings and decorations from 1178- 1498 +.
Remember to stop to admire the marvellous details of the main front doors.

I was expecting more about this sight, but on the spot the doors were closed and could not even enter the library which was mentioned to contain a large and priceless amount of old books.

The inner yards were only to be seen which was a pity. Took couple of pictures of them even though they were not in a good condition or taken care of, unfortunately.

I was glad that I did not give more than 1,50 EUR as a voluntary entrance fee as this was a flop and almost not worth to see.

It was tranquil and quiet. A look into the past. Really neat! We enjoyed the long corridors all to ourselves.
