About
The Albinelli Market keeps alive the tradition and heritage of the ancient market that since the Middle Ages has spiced up the streets and squares of Modena, safeguarding the city cultural and nutritional values and the personal and close customer relationship that has always characterized the retail sale. With the October 28th, 1931 new Market inauguration, Modena retail trade left piazza Grande, the original location which hosted it for centuries. The vendors who moved in became stable retailers, leaving behind their previous experience as street vendors for good. Now it is the beating heart of the city of Modena, appreciated by citizens and by visitors the possibility to identify and sample the Modena traditional culinary ingredients and dishes

    Fresh from the farm
Could have stayed all day! Great place not only for buying fresh products, but an excellent water hole to sit down, sip a glas of nice wine, have a snack and watch people pass by. There are several places where you can sit down for this. We picked one randomly and had a great time.

Good place to spend a morning/early afternoon and have lunch.
I always love going to all the different markets when I travel and this one didn’t disappoint. Fresh fruits, meats, cheese, fish, pastas, bakery items, side dishes, this market has it all plus many restaurants to try. It’s always a pleasure to walk around and soak in the local experience. There are a number of places to eat and I would recommend 2 restaurants to try in the market. Balsamico e Cucina – Monari Federzoni & Da Sergio "Abruzzo e le sue meraviglie " both are good for lunch or an afternoon snack. Great place to purchase gifts for the people back home.

A great place for fresh food, balsamic vinegar tasting and dining
We visited the markets during a day trip from Bologna via train. This is a great place to taste and buy balsamic vinegar. The vendors are very friendly and accommodating with our limited Italian! There are many stalls selling fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, seafood, desserts (e.g cannoli) , wine etc etc. We found a small shop that made the local specialty tortellini in brodo (broth). We watched the cook make it. It was served in a takeaway cup and it was delicious! The cannoli from Delizie was amazing and excellent value for €3. The markets are popular with the locals, so consider coming here to buy food if you are self-catering. There are plenty of dining options for lunch and dinner.

    Wonderful
Must see in Modena. Very nice mercato where you can shop Modena , Emilia-romagna delicacies but also sit and eat Modena plates with extremely high quality but with more economic options. Highly recommended, just watch out closing times

Absolutely the BEST, I wish we lived there, we'd go every single day. We had the pleasure of a tour with Caterina Schenetti, it was the highlight of our entire trip! She was amazing and she was chock full of knowledge. The cheese we tasted were out of this world delicious. The fresh ricotta with the sour cherry sauce, I'm still trying to see if I can buy it and get it shipped here. What a positive and delicious experience! A must to go here. We were on a tour of Venice, Rome and Florence, we added an extra day to go to Modena, I wish we added several more days. We will go back.

Hopefully you will come back and enjoy a slow visit to the market. You might discovers corners and sight you didn't discover this time. You had a taste of cheese and ricotta. Next time cold cuts, pickles, fresh season fruit. Thanks for coming!

Fresh is the word that comes to mind. If you are in Modena do t miss it. You could actually eat in this place. Unfortunately we were passing through and did not have time. But all the meat, the cold cuts, the vegetables were looking at their peak.

What an amazing market! I had such an enjoyable morning walking thru the market seeing the amazing produce, meats, cheeses and local ingredients. This is truly a gem of a place. We met so many friendly and attentive stall owners and enjoyed our time here.

Having shopped for years in Pike Place Market in Seattle, WA USA and shopping at Mercat de Sant Josep o La Boqueria and Mercat de Santa Caterina in Barcelona, Spain and Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid, Spain, I think this one hits a home run. The others, well, they have gotten too much into themselves. With the flash and dance of a big business. Not focusing on being a market, more of being a big money maker.

From meat to produce to plants and just about anything one would want to put together a picnic or shop for the house. Definitely worth the drive and walk to see! Buy some food for lunch or seeds for the garden. One stall has an incredible selection of olives.

This retail food market puts Harrods food hall and the top floor of Berlin's Ka De We to shame; as it should. Modena is in the heart of one of Italy's major food producing areas, and Albinelli offers the best of local and seasonal produce - meat fish, vegetables, fruit, and of course, cheese, ham, salami and balsamic vinegar. It is open daily, from early morning until lunchtime and on Saturdays from October to May, also in the late afternoon, from 4.30 until 7.00pm.When it comes to food ingredients, this is where you will find the best of the best. For a real flavour of this part of Italy, or just for some foodie gifts to carry home, mercato Albinelli is not to be missed.

At my visit in Modena I wanted to have a different experience and decided to have a drink and snack at Pranzo all’Albinelli in Mercato Albinelli. The day was very hot and the people there were having big glasses of cold beer , it was very tempting. The beer that was served to me was in a quite small white wine glass,I asked for beer in a proper beer glass like the next-sitting Italian couple but instead the waitress brought me my beer in a glass for red wine, then some man ( manager or owner) came and started shouting at me something in Italian. I only wanted to have a beer in a beer glass... the third beer arrived again in a glass for white wine and I just gave up but after a couple of sips I could not drink the beer which tasted like lukewarm water. The waiters were rude and shouted something that I didn’t understand. I wish I spoke Italian because I saw the people at this place treat tourist like me different then their locals. Where were their manners...

Really sorry for your bad experience. As you can see from other people's stories it can be quite different. Normally is exactly the opposite: tourists are pampered in a special way. I don't know where you are from, but we can only hope you soon come back. Ask for the market's president and enjoy his welcoming. Thank you very much for letting us know, we'll try to understand what happened.

I lived in Modena for 3 years and thia was a regular stop for me, at least twice weekly. It's a beautiful market, nicely kept, and with a good mix of vendors. Stop and see Sergio (da Sergio) for some amazing salamis and cheeses, and puck up some of the gorgeous seasonal produce and fresh baked goods. Enjoy!
