We have accommodation in private flats or with Italian families near the school. Established in 1980, Cultura Italiana is the only authentic Italian school in Bologna recognised by the Italian State, accredited by the Region and a member of ASILS (Association of Italian Language Schools) We are not like the other English language-focused schools in Bologna that sell Italian lessons to tourists. We specialise in teaching only Italian as a second language to adults and upon request, groups of high school students and private lessons for children. Loved it. A great way to learn Italian at any level and meet others. Wide range of ages, nationalities. Plenty of social activities.

I attended Cultura Italiana for a two-week intensive course. It was terrific, and met or exceeded all expectations!
Each student receives a written and oral placement assessment upon arrival. There were about 7 classes at all levels, each with about 9 students. This means you are in a class with others at about the same level. There were students of all ages (in my class, ranging from 21-72), from all around the globe. The daily program consists of 2 hours grammar, 2 hours conversational, and about an hour of homework. Each day, Cultura Italiana hosts a cultural experience, such as a walking tour, cooking class, informational lecture about current events in Italy, etc.
The course is intensive as advertised. Instructors and students speak only Italian in and around class. The speech was at a normal speed in the intermediate class. It was exactly the kind of challenge I hoped for. My Italian comprehension and grammar improved significantly. I highly recommend the program!

Two weeks of submersion in the Italian language proved to be both effective and pleasant! Certainly 5 hours every day of conversation with co-students from a broad range of ages and nationalities, finally getting to understand the congiunctivo, well guided passeggiate in and outside of Bologna, high quality lessons on e.g. the history of Italy and Italian writers, really made it a rewarding experience. Inspiring to meet other people taking a break from everydag life to dive into the beautiful Italian language.

I had the absolute best time at Cultura Italiana!!! It was such a fun and valuable experience!
Sadly, we could only stay for one week, but we learned so much in such a short amount of time. The teachers were great, especially Stefania! They were very patient, organized, and prepared. Everyone at the school was so kind and friendly!
We got placed in a level a little too advanced for us, but in the end that challenged us to learn more and catch up with the class. They even gave us an additional afternoon class to help us catch up.
The best part about the school was all the extracurricular activities it had to offer. We did tours of the city, hikes to the park, aperitivos, and a cooking class. The best part about it was that single activity included molto vino (a lot of wine).
Grazie mille for an incredible week Cultura Italiana! We look forward to returning in the future!

I went alone to Italy for the first time. I am so impressed by the excellent teachers and friendly atmosphare in this school. Everyone is so helpful and i made so many friends there. The teachers try there best so teach you italian and are open and available for every question. I love that the classes are mixed with people with different ages because its very interesting and helpful to learn new things. Also the activities after class are fun and new and a chance to meet new friends. All in all, I loved it. Will come back for sure. greetings Tina Brandecker

If you are looking for a complete language, cultural and culinary immersion in Italy, Cultura Italiana is the place to go. In heart of Bologna, food capital of Italy, Cultura Italiana is a school that offers students the opportunity to learn Italian at your own pace. The wonderful teachers guide you personally through the language and after four months studying there, they became like family for me. The school offers activities out of school to explore the city and all of its secrets. Along with cooking classes offered every Tuesday and Wednesday, you will leave cultura Italiana with a newfound knowledge of the Italian language, food, culture and it’s people. I will be back as soon as I can. It was an experience of a lifetime!

I have been studying at Cultura Italiana now for 6.5 months. Each week I come to class, I am amazed at all of the different aspects of the language I can learn and doing so through fun ways such as in-class games, role-plays, films, and music. What is amazing is that the teachers and staff at the school are very patient, creative, and passionate about Italian. What is an added benefit is that you get to meet people from all over the world in your classes, and learn to develop the language together. Each week many different activities are offered so you can try out cooking (hand-making pasta), taking a city tour around specific neighborhoods, or hiking up the beautiful serene hills that surround Bologna. All of these activities are aimed at helping you speak authentically in the native language, and help you learn in different contexts, in and out of the classroom. First you will be assessed with a short written exercise and then an oral introduction to see what level you might fit best at. Your days will then be divided into a grammar class that teaches basic structures and usage of language followed by a conversation class that is aimed at getting you speaking. Once a week there is an additional class that is more hands-on and features different topics of Italian culture, hand gestures, music and more. If you are dreaming of learning Italian, just make the leap and sign up for a few weeks of class, or even a week. Bologna is the perfect city to see how real Italians live and to do so where there aren't tons of tourists everywhere is an added bonus. The school itself is located in the perfect part of town, near fresh vegetable markets, the two towers, Piazza Maggiore, and lots of outdoor cafes/restaurants.The school can even assist with housing if you are interested!
