I think that given the great notoriety and hype that exists around this restaurant and specialty place, the truth of the small businesses is really very different from what is expected from such a busy (but not very busy) place in the center of Bologna. We are talking about Salumeria Mino which represents the worst a customer can find with a minimum sense of hygiene in 2024.
For customers who pay in cash he doesn't print half a receipt and he does it naturally looking at you as if it were normal like this, but the worst thing is the cash register placed on the food counter: he takes coins and banknotes without gloves, and then with the same hands rich in fecal bacteria and more cuts you a nice slice of ham and spreads it on a sandwich. Absolute disgust. But who controls it anyway? Perhaps between NAS and Finance put a point of attention on these small businesses left to themselves, without controls they proliferate in illegality and poor hygiene, especially if we are talking about delicatessen counter foods. This is our poor Italy when no one is looking. Ah, receipt required with the card, but he will look at you very badly and make fun of you.

We have seen Mercato delle Erbe on TV and were really impressed. But unfortunately in reality it is quite small and many shops were closed. We however found a good cheese shop we can recommend. Formaggeria Barbieri. They will shrink wrap the cheese which is handy for travelling.

Small market place in the central part of Bologna. Popular with locals, but prices are on the higher level.

This was a fab place to visit and have a casual lunch. The local produce was so well presented but it does get very busy at lunch time during the week with locals having their lunch. Best to arrive before midday or after 1.30pm. It is noisy and atmospheric and a great place to enjoy local ambience.

Close to the centre of Bologna’s tourist area this market not only has great stalls it has a number of small market restaurants where you can find a huge range of foods to satisfy everyones needs. The fish restaurant (location No32) has a great range to offer but the air is very fishy as it is along side a big fresh fish counter.
Great experience to visit and have a snack or meal.

The website is very enticing, and states that the place is open till midnight, however we went at about 3pm on a Monday and only the produce stalls were open. Since we had wanted to stop there to eat, we decided to again that same evening at about 10pm, but the produce stalls were closed and the restaurant kitchen was also closed.

Neither the market itself nor the streets around felt at all touristy- we got a good feel for the area because we were staying nearby.
There is a central plaza full of produce- mainly fruit and veg, deli items and wine, though we stopped at a great little bubble tea place that did other drinks too.
Either side of the central plaza are little sit down restaurants. In short although the place is small there is lots to discover and there are some great little shops just outside too.

I have recently visited Bologna again and I must say that every time I go I discover new places and new things to do.
This time I strolled into a small but very cosy market place called mercato delle erbe.
I was pleasantly surprised to see an interesting mix of fruit&veggies, meat and cheese stalls as well as a nice handful of bistros.
However, what really caught my attention was a quirky little boutique stall with a big neon sign "Sister's". The boutique is run by two lovely ladies: Valentina who is a jewellery maker and Francesca who makes hats.
If you are looking for an interesting item, something quirky or unusual for a gift or you want to treat yourself to a hand made and original piece of jewellery or a hat with soul, you need to pass by box 47. I loved their unique work and great craftsmanship.

Went to a fish restaurant in this market place in the evening. Apparently this is tapas style, whatever that is, but we ordered 4 different dishes and shared each of them. The Tuna burger was something else. Good value and very tasty, all washed down with a local white wine.

Ciao a tutti! Grazie mille in anticipo.

In realtà una via di mezzo....alcuni locali hanno posti in comune, come pizzeria e enoteca ad esempio. Altri hanno posti delimitati come ad esempio il ristorante o la pescheria

Can anyonr tell me if this market is wheelchair accessible ?
Written July 15, 2018
Yes, although at busy times the alleyways you use to get there are full of people and chairs from nearby bars and restaurants. Despite this there is room.
Once inside again, it is busy but there is no reason why wheelchairs should not have plenty of room with a bit of help from other patrons

Can anyone please tell me if this market is wheelchair accessible ?
Written July 15, 2018
I don’t think it is as - to memory - there’s stairs to get into the market on ever entrance I saw. However there are stalls and restaurants around the outside if it is that you still want to go.
Mercato di Mezzo is better for things outside the market however.
