Away from the busy streets of Bologna is this place of peaceful contemplation.

We went out of our way to visit it, in order to see Cimabue's Madonna Enthroned. When we finally found it, it was in a dark chapel with a locked iron gate about three metres from the painting. There was a light for fifty cents, but we were too far away to look at or experience the work in any... More

I have visited many historic religious sites in Bologna but this was one which Inshall remember for its simplicity and sense of quietude. I recommend it when one requires the need to step off the tourist routes of Bologna.

"Strada Maggiore" is a street, formerly just outside the Bologna's perimeter in the Roman era, which followed not the orientation of urban gridiron, but that of the country "centuriatio": it indeed constitutes the axis of this rural centuriatio, being actually the stretch of the ancient Via Emilia closer to Bologna, in the easterly direction, towards Rimini. Soon, in the last... More

Beautifully situated jumble of buildings with some very interesting things to see. Peaceful and evocative. Recommended.

A colourful display of service men and women outside, the national anthem being played but inside the Church is was quiet and beautiful. Well worth a visit as this was intended to be the largest Church in the world till St Peter's in Rome took over. Many beautiful and ornate chapels around the outside of a simple but grand church.

a nice square in front, a plain fassade, and tons of decorataion inside of limited artistic value... if it is on your way through the city, have a look, even step in, but don't expect much. not a top-ten visit therefore, but an eventual rainy day activity.

We passedSanta Maria and decided to look inside on a whim and what a pleasant surprise! From the plain frontage and understated signage don't indicate the stunning interior of this church. Stop by if you get the chance.

In the foreground there are beautifl arcades, which are typical for Bologna. The church itself has got a lot to offer an art, like Cimabues work, and a lot more. The altar is a masterpiece.
