Charming and Cute

Pretty little canal to view a little bit of history in Bologna. Not too far out of the way from Via dell'Indipendenza. Certainly a photo opportunity.

La Piccola Venezia is very close to the center city, but is can easily be overlooked if you are not informed of its existence. It really deserves to be seen, it is like an instantaneous time voyage to a couple of centuries ago.

As this place was very close to our hotel, we went there every day to see if the view changed with any water in it but unfortunately the canal was completely empty. Unless you are staying close by, I would not bother to come here especially for this view.

Bologna used to have many channels, almost like Venice: When I read about Little Venice I imagined something a little more exciting than a small window overlooking a street that may or may not be filled with water. In my case, I wasn't lucky. Don't make it a point to go, unless you are in the neighbourhood.

This is called little Venice and it it little. Whilst walking around it is easy to miss but makes a nice photo. It is off the main shopping street

We visited this the only place in the city where you can view the canals from the medieval times. It is a bit hidden away but with the help of a city map is an east find.

Had difficulty trying to find out more about the canale which when we arrived was flowing quite quickly and then disappeared under some old building. When we went to look again the following day - there was no water at all! Somebody must have closed a sluice somewhere.

Look for a small door about shoulder height to view the canal. We missed it first time. View is ok but imagination works best. Not a must see if you don't have time. All part of history though

What is fun is the little window on Via Piella from which you can view a small canal - mini Venice...without gondolas and access to the canal...

If you are visiting Bologna on foot, this could be a chance to discover a district that you wouldn't notice. You have to pass through a few old streets to reach this place, finding something interesting by the way. After reaching this spot you'll feel a little suprised: it's the only place in town where you can see rivers flowing.... More
