There are some very good and aesthetically pleasing art works to see here. I found the good stuff to be in the ambulatory behind the apse. The Gothic ambulatory looks foreboding to enter, but there are paper signs taped to the wall giving assurances for access. Unfortunately the star attractions, the Bentivoglio Chapel and the Poggi Chapel, are behind locked gates and dark unless you deposit coins in the coin box. Therefore be sure to bring coins. As they are behind locked gates, you cannot see any of the side frescoes head on, only from a distorted side view. Unfortunately, I liked the frescoes on the sides of the chapel walls best.
The Triumph over Death by Lorenzo Costa the Elder is a unique and interesting composition in the Bentivoglio Chapel. It shows elephants with riders, the grim reaper, and souls floating in a spherical sky. Also pleasing is The Bentivoglio Altarpiece of the Madonna and Child enthroned, where the Bentivoglio daughters are elegantly portrayed in renaissance gowns.
Meanwhile, over in the Poggi Chapel, there's a dramatic Mannerist frescoe to see called The Announcement of the coming of the Baptist, by Pellegrino Tibaldi.
Immediately across from the Bentivoglio Chapel there is an elevated funerary sarcophagus worth a good look. I was also charmed by a marble inlay plaque with swirling vines, a hummingbird and a tulip.

This is among the most beautiful churches in Bologna, no small feat as so many dot the city’s landscapes. It was founded in the 13th century and is a classic beauty of Italian architecture. The high ceilings and quietness that create atoo bad sanctuary for soothing the mind and spirit. Worth a visit.
It is a shame that Bolognesi tolerate the graffiti all over the city that desecrates its culture and historic splendor.

This church stands in a small square and looks old and worn from the outside. It has two steeples and pillars to it's front with a large iron door. Central is a large circular window and small figurine to the top. Inside it is large in size but again looks rather worn. It has a basic altar, nothing on it's ceilings, but some of the alcoves are lovely arches with large paintings, gold leaf and white statues on high ledges

The Chiesa di San Giacomo Maggiore is a very intesting church. The buiding itself is impressive and it's full of beautiful art. The chapel and monument of the Bentivoglio family are interesting, nice frsco's of Lorenzo Costa and a monument of Jacopo della Quercia. Too bad it's photo or viedo are not allowed in this church.

San Giacomo Maggiore is a basilica in the city of Bologna . It was founded in 1267 as the church of the Augustinians . Inside you will find the Bentivoglio chapel, splendid architecture of the mid fifteenth century, rich in works of Renaissance art. A beautiful church - clean and special.

This historic Roman Catholic church was completed in 1315.
It is a pastiche of different styles: Romanesque on the outside and Gothic and late Renaissance on the inside.
Beside the church, there is an elegant Renaissance portico, supported by sandstone columns.

The highlight in this church is the Bentivoglio chapel located in semi darkness behind the altar. €0.50 allows you to light up the chapel. There are several lovely painted frescos which apparently were commission's to celebrate a local family's victory in a 1488 local feud. One of the frescos, while set in a religious context, contains portraits of family members incorporated into the scene. An unusual feature at the time it was painted.

As you enter, you are met with an imposing Sanctuary with high ceilings. There are many special art pieces and frescoes - a great joy to be able to pray in this house of God and to be surrounded by many beautiful objects of worship.

The church is a fine example of Italian architecture and religious art at their best. Pleasant to find quiet and attractive surroundings after the bustle of the graffiti-ridden streets outside.
