About Cook Italy
Latest Update: I am open for classes and market tours in Bologna as of August 2020! I have been running classes since 1999 and I plan to continue. I have always only taken very small groups and given the Covid -19 crisis, I guarantee you will only shop and cook with your family or travelling companions, not with people you don't know. For market tours and market shopping, we'll avoid narrow and crowded streets and still shop at some top purveyors for Bologna's renowned gastronomic products and its superb quality fresh produce. In my well-ventilated open space apartment, social distancing is easy and I will have ample supplies of medical masks and sanitising gels on hand for you. If you can't get (back) to beautiful Bologna just yet, then as you'll see from my Tripadvisor reviews, I am offering on line classes, both group demo classes and private classes tailored to your requests. Email me to enquire about the possibilities, I'll be waiting to hear from you. Carmelita

A fun Sunday discovering Bologna's top coffee, pizza, gelato and more!

Bologna is a city that has long been known for its great food and as a city that loves to eat well. It has been famous on both counts since the 12th century, and its gastronomy continues to evolve, while the historic classics are excellent to this day. Right now, Bologna food culture is fizzing and developing in exciting ways. As a local and as a food and food history lover, let me take you to places we locals like - places that are off the tourist radar - to experience the best that Bologna currently has to offer in the way of ever popular staples like coffee, bread, pizza, Aperitivo and gelato.

An excellent half day to really experience the food and flavour of Bologna! Carmalita was amazing and really gave the full experience, from shopping in the vibrant market to cooking two pastas from scratch - one tagliatelle and one filled pasta. She was passionate about getting the right techniques and teaching and was so welcoming in her lovely apartment. I will be back!!!

I just spent a wonderful few hours making FABULOUS mushroom risotto with Carmelita. She was demonstrating from her kitchen in Bologna and I was cooking with my husband in my kitchen in West Palm Beach. We were able to follow along in real time. We were able to ask questions as we chopped and cooked. Carmelita gives you a wealth of information about all the ingredients, all the cooking methods and so many pearls of chef wisdom. We cant wait to set up another class!!! I cant recommend Carmelita enough.

I highly recommend Carmelita’s online cooking classes. I have enjoyed the recipes as well as her tips for cooking in general and information about foods in Italy. Carmelita is very experienced and helpful and has motivated me to try new things and ones that I had thought were too difficult for me. I have taken her Zoom classes for stuffed vegetables, pasta, pesto sauces, and mushroom risotto. Each class has been great and very inspiring. Prior to the classes she sends out the recipe and shopping and equipment list. On Zoom we have the option to cook along or watch and prepare later, and then after she is done cooking the recipe she is open to answering questions. She has also been very accessible after the classes for questions. It has also been fun to see others from around the world on the Zoom classes and to see others cooking and to hear the questions and comments they have.

This was a risotto class. It was fantastic. The only thing better would have been an in-person class. The pace was just right and the instructions were clear. You saw every move and what the final product should look like. I especially like the information on the origins of the rice used and the name of Parmagiano-reggiano cheese! Thanks Carmelita for a great class. It was well worth the time, money snd effort.

We joined Carmelita for a Market-To-Table day class making a 3 course meal of Zucchini and Pancetta Risotto, an Aubergine Parmigiana and a Lemon Gelo. We really enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it. Being able to pick the ingredients while learning about Bologna was a particular treat. Thanks for a wonderful time Carmelita.
