Since 1999 offering Market-to-Table day class, half day classes, 3 night courses. As my classes are for very small numbers they fill up quickly and the first months to fill are April/May and September/October so plan ahead! I offer home cooking in a well air-conditioned home kitchen making updated, well plated, traditional Italian meals and my apartment is right in the heart of the historic city. Beginners, experienced cooks, professional chefs, families with children all welcome! I do my utmost to give you a memorable day and a great culinary experience and teach all the classes personally. And if you or your travelling partner/s don't fancy cooking, I offer a morning market food tour ending in a light lunch to introduce you to Bologna, its history and its food. And an unusual evening tour too, just email to ask!

Carmelita met us in the morning at the market. She advised us on places to buy food from the local shops as well as good cafes and restaurants. When we arrived at her home she made us feel very welcome. We cooked the two pasta dishes but she gave us plenty of tips on how we could adapt the recipes!

i can't think of a better way to steep yourself in the food culture of Bologna. Carmelita is a superb teacher and host and her own enthusiasm shines through. We started with a wonderfully informative shopping trip for ingredients in and around the Quadrilatero - where Carmelita's dialogue with various shopkeepers and stall-holders showed how well she's known. In addition,... More

Cook Italy with Carmelita was truly the highlight of our trip. She provides an intimate and knowledgeable cooking experience. We learned so much about Bologna's food history while walking through the market and even came back at the end of the day for dinner! The food we prepared was truly delicious and we cannot wait to make it at home!... More

A fantastic tour of the local markets was followed by a very personal cooking experience. Carmelita walks you through every step of the process and helps you to create a great meal. One of the highlights of Bologna!

We spent a fantastic day with Carmelita. We were all looking forward to our day and we were not disappointed. We went with two of our daughters age 13 and 8 and they had a fabulous time rating it the best day they had in Italy. Carmelita involved all of us in the cooking after a very interesting and informative... More

Carmelita is professional, patient and personable. We are a family of 5 with children aged 13, 11 and 7. We were all involved from the start; from the time we met for our coffee discussing the menu through to the walking tour and shopping, to the preparation and cooking our dishes. We were all involved in something and Carmelita had... More

We spent an amazing day with Carmalita. In the morning we followed her around the markets, learning about the local foods, stores and customs, with a quick and essential visit into the local chocolatier. Around midday we headed back to her apartment to put together a fantastic meal, accompanied by very well selected and local Italian wines. What a day..... More

Ah, yessss, I am so happy you appreciated the wines served on my classes, which are specially chosen to match the meals we make by the experienced sommeliers at Bologna's very best wine shop! I am pleased your class with me was a stand out day, and wish to send a very big thank you for your recommendation. A presto! More

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class with Carmelita. The day started with a tour of Bologna's lovely central market, which was really fun and educational. Carmelita is so knowledgable about the local food, and wasn't afraid to give her honest opinions on what was good and what was not so good, which we really appreciated. Seeing the... More

So let me capture what our $500 covered: Carmelita was kind enough to provide a list of her favorite restaurants and make a reservation for us at one. We met at 9AM and had a cappuccino and croissants. For the next few hours we wondered the market place and she shopped for the items with which we would later prepare... More

What can I say, this review, so out of tune with the majority of the others, shows that no matter how hard you try, you really can't please everyone. But I am glad your wife, the accomplished cook, believes she learnt a lot while making pasta and that you enjoyed the Balsamic tasting and found the market tour fun and... More
