Since 1999 offering Market-to-Table day class, half day classes, 3 night courses. As my classes are for very small numbers they fill up quickly and the first months to fill are April/May and September/October so plan ahead! I offer home cooking in a well air-conditioned home kitchen making updated, well plated, traditional Italian meals and my apartment is right in the heart of the historic city. Beginners, experienced cooks, professional chefs, families with children all welcome! I do my utmost to give you a memorable day and a great culinary experience and teach all the classes personally. And if you or your travelling partner/s don't fancy cooking, I offer a morning market food tour ending in a light lunch to introduce you to Bologna, its history and its food. And an unusual evening tour too, just email to ask!

Carmelita, your guide to a fantastic cooking experience from market to plate. We were fortunate to find Carmelita's "Cook Italy" on Trip Advisor after a previously scheduled cooking class didn't happen. Luckily she had space for two the next day. We started by meeting at the open markets and learning about the best produce, butchers and meat, cheese, bakers and... More

We visited Italy in August to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday and, Carmelita very kindly squeezed us in before taking her own holiday. From start to finish we had an absolutely fantastic day. The morning's market tour, during which we picked up all our ingredients, was both interesting and informative & was filled with hints and tips for how to... More

Carmelita is a joy to be with in Bologna. A day class with her will send you home with more knowledge about Italian love of food in their culture. She shares her love of cooking, teaching and sharing better than you could possibly imagine. We took a two-day class a number of years ago and hosted her at our home.... More

I just spent 10 days in Italy, and my experience with Cook Italy in Bologna was the highlight of the trip! Carmelita met us in the village shopping district and we picked out all the ingredients for our cooking class. It was great fun meeting the shopkeepers and learning how to pick the best vegetables, cheeses, meats, even balsamic vinegar!... More

This was an incredible experience. Italy has many things to offer but the delicious cuisine is one of the highlights. If you like cooking at all, you'll love this class. Carmelita does a wonderful job guiding you through the traditional ways of cooking from Bologna. Be prepared to work! But also be prepared to be well rewarded with one of... More

This was by far the most fun thing we've done in Italy so far! Carmelita has so much knowledge about Bologna, the local meats, cheeses, pastas, and Italian food in general. In the morning she walked us through the best markets in Bologna and took time to explain the characteristics and history of good Italian food from the region. Her... More

Wow!!! Carmelita is a force of nature. She was truly amazing. We began our day with a walk through the markets of the Quadrilatero where she pointed out some of the best places to buy meats, cheese, vegetables, and just about everything else. We took her advice the rest of the week and never ate bad food! After several hours... More

Carmelita met us in the morning at the market. She advised us on places to buy food from the local shops as well as good cafes and restaurants. When we arrived at her home she made us feel very welcome. We cooked the two pasta dishes but she gave us plenty of tips on how we could adapt the recipes!

i can't think of a better way to steep yourself in the food culture of Bologna. Carmelita is a superb teacher and host and her own enthusiasm shines through. We started with a wonderfully informative shopping trip for ingredients in and around the Quadrilatero - where Carmelita's dialogue with various shopkeepers and stall-holders showed how well she's known. In addition,... More

Cook Italy with Carmelita was truly the highlight of our trip. She provides an intimate and knowledgeable cooking experience. We learned so much about Bologna's food history while walking through the market and even came back at the end of the day for dinner! The food we prepared was truly delicious and we cannot wait to make it at home!... More

Oh thank you, such lovely things you say! I hope you've made "our" meal successfully at home and that brought back good memories, just as this great review made me think back fondly to our fun day together. My very best, and a very big thank you! More
