About
After the Covid hiatus, it is wonderful to be back, running my classes, and market tours in Bologna. I love meeting people and I hope to welcome you to my kitchen with a view., beautifully air-conditioned and the best place to be when Bologna gets hot. I now have over 20 years experience and I plan to carry on doing what I love and enjoy. I have always only taken very small groups and will continue to do so. Email me with your enquiry. I'm waiting to hear from you and I look forward to sharing my Bologna with you! Carmelita

My partner and I were lucky enough to spend a morning with Carmelita on a private food tour of Bologna - it was such a treat to navigate the warren of market stalls and delicatessens with a true expert. She gave our experience of the city such an interesting depth with historical context, secret insights and a dose of juicy gossip to boot. I could have spent hundreds of euros on all the delicious produce she showed us, I'm already looking forward to booking another holiday to Bologna to revisit all our favourite places.

While you're in Bologna, I highly recommend doing a cooking class with Carmelita, arguably the best way to directly experience the culinary capital of Italy. My girlfriend and I recently arranged a private personalised pasta making and cooking class with Carmelita/Eat Italy. The experience was relaxed, leisurely and above all informative. Beyond learning how to make garganelli pasta, we also learned a great deal about Italian pasta and cuisine as a whole, which has definitely helped us to appreciate all the other dishes we have since come across on our Italian holiday. The class took place in Carmelita's own kitchen which added authenticity to the whole experience.

It is also worth noting in the context of the coronavirus pandemic that Carmelita took a number of steps to ensure the class was safe and hygienic. We wore masks (apart from when eating and drinking of course), maintained social distancing and regularly sanitised our hands.

In summary, we really enjoyed our class with Carmelita and absolutely will be recommending Eat Italy to our friends and family. If you enjoy Italian food and want to learn more about it, including how to make your own fresh pasta, this is the course for you. Thanks again Carmelita!

We took the private Market-To-Table class for the two of us and had a wonderful day with Carmelita. From the wander around the specialist shops to the actual cooking itself, it was obvious that Carmelita had a wealth of knowledge and expertise. We understood far more at the end of the day than we had at the beginning and enjoyed the meal that we had cooked at the end of the day. It was like being with an old friend than somebody who we only met a couple of hours earlier. We would recommend for people wanting a good grounding in Italian cuisine.

I've recently discovered Carmelita's fantastic range of Recipe Booklets and eCookbooks. Not only are they absolutely beautiful to look at, I love how original and authentic the recipes are. They're so simple to follow and make use of some lovely seasonal ingredients. There's also a recipe notes section at the back with additional tips and information, which is such a nice touch.

I think they're exceptionally good value and would make excellent, stress-free Christmas gifts for the foodie in your life. I honestly can't recommend them or Cook Italy enough!

My husband and I traveled to Bologna Italy last year and spent a day with Carmelita. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Carmelita took us through the markets, introduced us to local merchants, taught us how to purchase the best produce for seasonal cooking, and adapted our cooking class for our best personal experience. My husband and I have been “cooking Italian” since we returned from our honeymoon in Italy 30 years ago and we still learned much from Carmelita.
We had hopes of returning to Bologna, but Covid -19 dashed those plans. Covid is a devastating global crisis. That fact cannot be understated. However, Carmelita’s Zoom classes have given us something to look forward to, a feeling of normalcy and a respite amidst lock downs and uncertainty in our circumstances...
Although Covid mas upended life and certainly travel, we have been most pleased that Carmelita’s resolve has not been dashed!!
She now teaches classes via Zoom.
Carmelita is charming. She invites us into her kitchen for a step by step hour or more of detailed instruction, and guides us as we follow along at home creating authentic Italian fare. Her classes remain informative, filled with insider cooking knowledge, stories, tips on kitchen gadgets, and more. Carmelita is not only a knowledgable instructor, she is a lovely host.

My wife and I thought it would be fun to book a cooking class during our long awaited first holiday to Italy and it ended up being way more than that.

On our last day in Bologna we found ourselves walking through the market, as we did before, but this time with Carmelita guiding us through the shops, produce and their history. We didn't even start cooking yet and we were already getting a deeper understanding of food and Bologna's people and culture.

Next we got to Carmelita's apartment and the first thing our eyes fell upon was the kitchen. My god, a dream of a kitchen. We went through the recipes getting more priceless information about cooking and had so much fun in the process.

We made an excellent team and ended up creating our very first pasta dishes from scratch with Carmelita guiding us and helping us out whenever we got stuck. Always with a smile in a friendly atmosphere. The feeling we were left with was a mixture of excitement, pride and happiness and it made us smile all the way to the airport and on our way home.

It was definitely the highlight of our trip and the first thing we tell people about our trip to Bologna. It's an experience we wholeheartedly recommend and when we get back to Bologna we'll make sure we don't miss the opportunity to take another class.

Thank you so much for a lovely day, Carmelita!

Had a wonderful 'one on one' online cooking course with Carmelita making the Veal Involtini from the North of Italy and the Braciole Barese from the South of Italy accompanied by a creamy dried Porcini Sauce. Absolutely Excellent !
Carmelita is very knowledgeable and guides you through all the steps. Not only is she exceptionally good with her recipes, also mentions the origin and history of the recipes she makes.
Really Outstanding ! Keep up the excellent work !

We 'zoomed' our on-line cooking class with Carmelita (Australia 5pm - Italy 9am) and learnt how to cook the traditional Ragu alla Bolognese. Carmelita professionally and enthusiastically explained and showed us each step of the recipe and how to achieve a delicious ragu. The on-line course (using Zoom) was very easy and convenient to set up in the comfort of your own kitchen (knowing how things work and where stuff is stored)! She sent the shopping list and recipe well prior to the class date, which allowed us to shop in our own time and become familiar with the recipe beforehand. This took away any stress connected with a new experience and allowed us to get immersed in cooking and asking questions. In this time of pandemic, we enjoyed the experience safely in our own home, and knowing that we were helping to support the livelihood of a fine chef on the other side of the world; business affected by current times. Thanks Carmelita for a delicious ragu recipe and experience.

We took the half day class making 3 courses (pasta, main course and dessert). Carmelita made the class both very informative and very entertaining! She allowed us a choice in the menu and the process of discussing and booking over email was very easy.
We arrived to her beautiful home kitchen in the heart of the city and embarked upon an adventure which felt like cooking and talking with friends. We learned a lot about the characteristics of the ingredients including what to look for when shopping and the regional differences in recipes.
The time flew by as we made the dishes (as opposed to other cooking classes I have taken, we were able to make all the dishes with Carmelita's guidance meaning we will be able to replicate these recipes at home). Carmelita also provided us with the recipes to take home.
At the end of the cooking, it was delightful to sit and enjoy each course with a very nice bottle of wine.
Carmelia even gave us recommendations of places to go for dinner on our last night in Bologna. I can't think of a better way to spend our last day in Italy!

Carmelita was INCREDIBLE. We did a half day class making a starter and two different pastas. She was so knowledgeable and conversational, telling us all about her experiences and how Italian culture has evolved over time. And the food was so yummy, some of the best I’ve had in Italy—and we got to participate in the whole process! This is a great intimate experience you won’t find in big commercialized businesses—book her!
