This is the best attraction in Bologna! The lift looks dangerous, but it is all safe. You would not get a better view from anywhere in Bologna!

Superb view!

This temporary terrace was placed here during the renovation of the church. The price, 3 €, is a support for the final renovation of the building. They informed us that by the end of the year this terrace won’t exist anymore because they will remove the temporary structure. The view is from 54 mt high. You have two options, climbing it or taking the Elevator (which is not a permanent one but the kind you find in new constructions). The view from up there is quite breath taking. I really recommend it.

Top of the city view

A lift ride to the top of the city, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Bologna. The ticket is only 3 euros, but the viewing area is fantastic.

To begin with this is not a terrace. You're paying 3€ to access a scaffold elevator to go up to the uppermost part of the work structure, after being requested to sign a risk acceptance form. It doesn't worth the price and I don't really understand how they have permission to do that.

Great views

The Terrazza Panoramica is a viewing area above the Basilica di San Petronio in Bologna. It is accessed from a lift outside the rear of the Basilica. The cost is 3 Euros for adults - children are free. This a bit of a building site as there is lots of restoration work going on. The lift is a temporary builders lift but it does the job and gets you to a terrace above the Basilica where you can get excellent views of the city. There are a few steps to climb when you get out at the top.

3 euros for a lift ride that will take you to a viewing terrace to look over Bologna and surrounding area. A good clear day when we were there so very enjoyable.

Want to risk your life for a nice view?

This panoramic terrace is situated alongside the impressive basilica in central Bologna. It's actually a scaffolding structure built onto the wall, and reaches approx 53m which is a decent height for views (although pales in comparison to the Asnielli's 97m). It does only cost 3EUR at time of writing, so you can't really complain about the value.

Personally, the experience was rather unsettling. After queuing, you have to sign a waiver that the cathedral keeps, with clauses including the requirement of abolishing them of blame should you be injured or fatally hurt during your experience. Once you witness the lift, these clauses really hang in your mind - it's a workman's lift, that uses the scaffolding structure to climb the 170 or so feet. One of my friend's actually decided not to purchase a ticket after seeing the temporary aspect of this lift and I don't blame him.

The ride up was shaky for sure, with the lift swaying uncertainly until reaching the top with a jolt. You then climb a few flights of scaffolding stars to the terrace, which offers rather lovely views across maybe 240 degrees. It's not fully panoramic, but it's decent for photographs of the hills and some of the towers of the city. The descent is via over 250 steps within the scaffolding, with steps moving a little.

In all, a unique viewpoint. I wouldn't say it felt like I was at risk, but the waiver does add a certain shadow to the experience.

Enjoyable ride & view

You can access the scaffolding (as it turns out, the viewing point is not located on a terrace! 😯) by a lift, but first you need to pay the entrance fee and sign some silly papers. I would prefer this to be a real terrace, nevertheless in my opinion it is safe and worth the small price.

Unique opportunity.

A good idea to give access to the roof area while restoration is undertaken. In some ways you get a better view than from the tall tower in the town. Excellent photo opportunities. Particularly enjoyed the ride on the lift and the walk down the scaffolding steps - it’s all very safe.

No terrace, 3€ to access a scaffold !
Jan 2018 • Couples
I suppose that everything is done in respect to law, but you need to know that no terrace exists on the S. Petronio cathedral, but you're paying 3€ to access a very dangerous scaffold elevator to access the uppermost part of the work structure, after being requested to sign a risk acceptance form!
Moreover, from the top of this scaffold, you can only look in a few directions (not 360°) and, for example, the main square where the cathedral is located is not visible from this "terrace"!
Definitely not worth the price.
