Tiny, easy, beautiful surroundings

The highest place in Campobasso, hosting the local Air Force meteo station and a shrine for the local soldiers that did not return from the wars. Ancient, still easy to access and with a lovely view to enjoy even in a heated august day. Opened on sunday, that's a plus around there.

A unique visit to Castello Monforte
Nov 2019
At the top of a steep tree-lined avenue, you will find Castello Monforte. Built in 1450 by the local ruler Nicola Monforte. The current construction is the result of later rebuildings after the earthquakes of 1456 and 1805.
The views towards the Apennines are spectacular and I found it well worth the visit. Before you go, do check the opening times.

On this rocky hill, 790 metA national monument and symbol of the city, the castle takes its name from Count Nicola II Monforte, who restored it in 1458 after an earthquake.ers above sea level, you will find the Monforte Castle. I was there as a child, and have returned numerous times as an adult. This time I was with my brother, sister-in-law & 3 nephews. A piece of history well kept,

Very special

We climbed the steps from the ton to the castle. Beautiful climb up through tiny streets.

When we got to the castle we realised a funeral was about to take place so out of respect we walked around the outside where you can get stunning views of the surrounding mountains and countryside. Walk back down the steps to the old town for wonderful shopping and cafes.

You won't be disappointed. Quite a hike up the hill but well worth it. Awesome view to the area and a exploration of local history.

Awesome views of Campobasso & Region

A beautiful stroll from Teatro Savoia up to the castle. It took a good 30 minutes to walk up steep alleys and stairs. What great view once up there . We were rewarded with a couple of natural water fountains. The history is amazing from the castle itself to the events of its reconstruction, the Second World War and its current state. Worth the walk up from the old city centre.

Sep 2018 • Friends
Its not a tourist destination, but it is a must do if you are in Campobasso. A brief visit will be fine, just include it on your itinerary for the day.
