Emblemetic monument in lovely piazza
Aug 2017 • Couples
This monument, in the piazza of the same name, was created by famous sculptor Francesco Jerace and inaugurated in 1913. It is dedicated to Gabriele Pepe ((1779-1849): military, patriot, scholar and poet born in Civitacampomarano, in the province of Campobasso. Pepe fought in the defence of the Neapolitan Republic of 1799 and in many other revolutionary upheavels until his death.
The monument is located in one of Campobasso's main squares (Piazza gabriele Pepe) adjacent to the medieval village. Around the square you find the Goverment Building (Palazzo del governo), the cathedral of Santissima Trinità, the Savoia Theatre, as well as many shops and last but not least iconic bar and pastry shop Lupacchioli.
