The Art Cafe, very close to the upper gate into the walled old town of Urbino, is definitely a place I would go back to if I am in Urbino again. On the evening we had dinner there, there happened to be two large parties there. When you are travelling itt is extremely reassuring to find that the locals think well enough of a restaurant to have a party there.

We ordered two large platters of antipasti, of which was just the usual cold cuts. The other contained several combinations wonderfully put together: the carpaccio di manzo with pecorino and porcini was memorable. We skipped the primi and went on to the secondi. The fillet of beef with gorgonzola sauce was superb, as was the veal with porcini. We were too full for much of dessert, but the tarte with fruits of the forest lived up to the rest of the dinner. We had the house wine, which was a rather nice San Giovese.

The cafe has a nice selection of art on the walls, which is probably the reason behind the name. On a less busy evening we might have talked to the owner about the name, but we had to leave that for the future.

As everywhere else in Italy, the restaurant, and its patrons, were extremely infant friendly.
