Amazing art site and amazing experience. Don’t let the dark and small entrance mislead you: the frescos inside are the best we’ve seen in our life. The details in gold, the tiny mirrors on the angels wings to make them shine, the different materials and techniques that make the painting 3D… just WOW. All there to prove the astonishing, splendid masterpieces they must have been originally and how (sadly) we can only enjoy a fraction of this wonderful art. The person at the reception is a living encyclopedia and gladly explains the hidden meaning of the scenes, metaphors and allegories. Buy something at the shop if you can, to support the conservation of the site.

This small chapel has an amazing set of frescoes by Salimbeni that are in some ways equal in interest to the Giotto frescos in the Scrovegni chapel in Padova. As others have noted, the more closely you look, the more you discover in the rich detail. Essential viewing ... and there's a classic photo of the town from the window in the back.

2.5 Euros per person. They give you a little card of information. Took me about 5 minutes and I had seen the whole thing. That is with stopping and looking at the art. Wasn't impressed as much of the other TripAdvisor reviewers.

The frescoes by the Salimbeni brothers of the Crucifixion and the life of John the Baptist have great charm and character. Notwithstanding the solemnity of the religious episodes and themes portrayed, they convey a wonderful sense of early fifteenth century life through their detailed observations of ordinary people. Wherever you look, you will find interesting details - children fighting, dogs licking themselves, men sporting the most outrageously fashionable hats, locals quaffing wine whilst John the Baptist is preaching and baptising. The Salimbeni may have been paid to paint great religious scenes, but they could not resist also painting what they saw around them. There is something very accessible about these frescoes and for images which are six hundred years old they have a life and vitality which is still heartwarming today.

This small chapel is a wonderful site to visit but be aware that it is currently under renovation. The chapel is full of scaffolding and platforms and one entire wall is impossible to view in its entirety. The upside is that you can mount the scaffolding and watch the restorers at work and you can still see all of the beautiful fresco on the end wall. Still worth a visit in my opinion and would be a definite top score when restoration work is complete.

This church has beautiful interiors. There are also old frescoes and antiques which provide a good insight back to the Renaissance ages.

We purchased the ticked to visit both churches since they were right next to each other. Fascinating history, artwork and items in both. Well worth a visit while in Urbino.

It is amazing how you can spend a great deal of time in this single room, captured by the frescoes depicting life and death of San Giovanni.
Absolutely to be seen.
Buy the combined ticket - cost 5 Euros - to visit also the adjacent oratorio of San Giuseppe
