A wonderful and interesting museum!
Ancona was the first stop on our cruise and the most memorable! The museum is vast but full of the most wonderful exhibits! We were exceptionally lucky to have the curator show us round and, although he doesn't speak much English and we only speak English and Spanish, we got on famously with many hilarious moments. I suspect we were there for about three hours but it seemed like no time at all.
I would love to visit again one day.

Many thanks to the museum staff who gave me a breathless 3-hour-tour across the marvelous collection of this underrated museum. I'll come back next time I take a ferry from Ancona.

Nice surprise such an extensive collection of pre, preta, Roman artifacts in what was a private villa. Views of the Ancona port and water sea. Need much more time to see all. See gold reproduction of Roman sculpture on top and again at the entrance. Interesting story of it's providence. A bargain at 5 euros. Not to be missed

Very nice place to visit. Was very solemn. It is quite a walk from the port but worth it. There is a great view of the rest of the city from here.

First visit to the old town of Ancona and what a surprise! This archaeological museum is a gem set in a wonderful palace and well displayed. The range and quality of prehistoric, pre Roman, Piceni and Roman artefacts is quite stunning. Amazing preservation in tombs and beautiful artistry in the grave goods.
Well worth a return visit!

A must for anyone interested in archaeology. It is in a lovely building, and the pieces on display are interesting.
The courtyard dominates over the harbour. Very close to the cathedral. A real must.

The museum is a bit difficult to walk through. It has some interesting sculptures made by Picen people, some 700 years before Christ.

The museum was really well done, with a large quantity of displays. There were different sections according to the various periods of time. On display were ancient tools, jewelry, helmets, a loom, examples of dyed yarns, etc.
About a third of the displays had English translations. In at least one of the sections without English translation, there were helpful charts on the wall.
I was there on a weekday morning and there were not a lot of visitors so it was very easy to meander and spend the time looking at the various displays.
The employees were very nice and helpful despite my minimal knowledge of Italian, and the admission price was quite reasonable.

The museum is located in an old palace and this very fact alone makes it worth a visit. If there is nothing interesting behind the glass, look up - some of the ceilings are simply marvellous. Contrary to what someone wrote here, every exhibit is described in English, if you are interested in archeology, you probably need a full day to enjoy it all, If you are not, still it makes sense to come. You make find great many interesting objects, such as the dog-chalice that I found.

The museum has 3 floors. The visit starts in the 2nd. Floor, and then you go to the 3rd, where you'll see a lot of amazing pieces, but there is not a word of english, so you have to imagine, what were there for....
And you end in a surprising sculture at the first floor.
It could get a nice boost!
I liked the ceiling decoration, and must of all, the roman floor, which I felt awful to walk on it!
