There were serpentine queues at St Peter's Square with large number of tourist groups lining up to visit the holy cathedral. One can get a good view of the entire area and the main fountain. One has to be very careful & alert for pickpockets who mingle amongst the crowd

After you've gone through all of the chapels you come out here. Very nice views from here and the Vatican gardens are next to this. You can get a sense of how the plaza below must look when it's filled with people.

I don't know why, but St Peter's Square didn't seem like much to us - maybe because we had just finished seeing such spectacular sights as the Basilica and the Vatican Museums. If you're doing the Vatican sights, you do St Peter's Square ...

If you sadly had only a day or two in Rome, you would certainly have to spend a majority of your time at St/ Peters ! It's a true "Must See To Believe" type of experience. Plan on going to the top of the St. Peters Basilica Coppola as well. The lines are worth the effort, as is the climb.... More

I give this 2 stars for the beauty. Our experience in St Peters square is 1 star. There are so many hustlers and beggars asking you to buy tickets from them to get inside the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. If you don't already have tickets beware!! You will be harassed walking around the area. Even if you don't have... More

I just visit vatican city for holiday. I left early to go to church. It turns out that once there, there is a queue to enter the church. About 10-15 minutes to get into the church (and through checks like at the airport). I went up to the dome using the elevator and stairs by paying €8. Though tired towards... More

As stated in another post, have been waiting all my life to travel to Vatican City. Upon first entering St. Peter's square, i was so overcome with Emotions that all I could do was cry. I was so happy to finally arrive. Beautiful Square - so many people, yet if feels so comfortable. Seeing the Pope's Window, all the Statues,... More

The walk to the square is framed by the dome of the basilica. The spire is perfectly placed in the foreground as you approach. As you get closer and closer you take in the scale of the square and are taking to a different place as you look in awe at such a remarkable creation.

It is a lovely square and worth visiting just to get the feel of the place. Wandering around the area you get areal feel of how vast it is especially how many people would be standing in the square on Sunday mornings etc
