About
Want access to my “Secret Tour Guides” that I use when it comes to family and friends who don’t want to be bored to death when they’re traveling? As an American living between the U.S. and Italy for almost 20 years, I’ve seen some pretty bad chemistry between tour guides and travelers. Guides can be burnt out, speak with a heavy accent, or just be plain old boring all of which are the perfect set up for a bummer of an experience. When I was in my twenties, I moved to Rome from the US and found myself so concerned about travelers that I would run into. Oftentimes, I would find them being treated like cattle in huge tour groups of 50+ people. Even worse, they were stuck with a guide whose accent was just so heavy that they were difficult to understand. Would you like skip the disappointing experiences and be matched with one of my “Secret Tour Guides” before they get scooped up by someone else?

I booked 4 tours with Presto for my recent trip to Italy. We were a party of 10 so decided to do all private tours. I did a private tour of the Sistine Chapel, a private walking tour of Rome, a private tour to Taormina from the port of Messina and a tour of Amalfi from the port of Naples. Kirsten had everything handled. She was quick to respond to my inquiries and suggested wonderful places to visit and arranged lunches for us too. The vehicles were clean and the drivers were excellent, those roads are not easy to handle. The tour guides were a pleasure.
I would highly recommend using their services.

We just returned from our trip to Rome and we really lucked out with Presto Tours. Our 3 hour tour of the Vatican was EXCEPTIONAL. Not the Vatican and museums, which is amazing, but our guide, Michael. He was incredible. He was so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun. We learned so much and there wasn't a question we asked that he didn't have more information about than one could imagine. While he has an incredible depth of knowledge, he has a wonderful, enthusiastic presentation. We would highly recommend Presto Tours but definitely Michael. We are so thankful for the opportunity to take the Vatican tour with Michael and thought that this company deserved a pat on the back.

All the best for your trip to Rome!

We are transitioning to reality after two weeks in Italy, one in Rome.

We were fortunate to have gone on four of Presto’s Rome tours – don’t know how anyone can travel to the city and not take tours, but to luck out with four excellent guides and tours was beyond our expectations. These are three-hour tours with nary a lull.

Our first tour was with Ryan at the Vatican. He motivated us to learn more about the masterpieces and their artists. He was so familiar with their personal and professional lives, it was as if they were personal friends, which made the tour even more interesting. Well educated and well humored, Ryan led an excellent tour and answered everyone’s questions without missing a beat. Very enjoyable.

Next we toured with Michael at the Colosseum and Forum. I liken him to Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting – an energetic professor anxious to share his knowledge with all of us. He entertained us with his coin magic (imagine finding 5,000 year old coins right in the ruins!) and brought the gladiator fights to life through words. Put your walking shoes on for this one – this wiry man is in great shape. We also had the good fortune to meet his hospitable wife and enjoyed the day very much. Excellent take.

The night tours are ones I highly recommend early on in your stay. It gives you the opportunity to explore Rome and make a mental (or written) note to come back the next day to eat or play. We toured with John, a personable young man. A sommelier who is studying wines with a passion, John mixed sightseeing at the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain with touring three diverse ristorantes where we sampled different wines and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres. Our intimate group – a couple from California, a young professional from Seattle, Ryan and Michael (two other Presto tour guides) and us – enjoyed the diverse trio of wine bars – one a metro style at happy hour (a classy one), one where we went to the wine cellar with barrels and all and another intimate upstairs establishment. By the end of the evening we were very comfortable with one another – a great way to meet people while traveling. We wish John the best in his continuing studies and thank him for his invaluable advice on wine, tasting and touring. Much fun!

Another great night tour was the Rome City tour. We had a private tour for two with Mitra, an entertaining, witty and chuck-full-of-facts (and beautiful to boot) young lady. We were fascinated by her knowledge and couldn’t help but ask her how she wound up in Rome – great story. We met at Campo del Fiori and traveled to the Panthenon, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona bristling with artists and performers and the Bernini Fountain. We learned about the personalities of the artists – their temperament, their spitefulness and their talents. She side-stepped the tour to take us to her favorite gelato bar – organic too! Mitra was intriguing. We enjoyed every minute of the tour. Presto is a top-notch touring company – very professional, organized and customer-oriented. I would highly recommend booking with this company.

I have included some pictures of my husband and I with the groups and a couple of our guides! Feel free to take a peek!

My mum, sister and I went on a Presto Tour round the Vatican in September for my mum's 65th birthday trip to Rome. The guide was in a terrible mood, and ended up having an argument with the guards and throwing a complete tantrum which resulted in him arguing in Italian with 4 police officers at the start of our tour. This was very intimidating for us, as a result we were unable to see the start of the tour and have the Sistine chapel explained to us. Our guide was storming around and muttering to himself that he "hated Italians" etc etc.... It was so incredibly unprofessional and childish and could very nearly have resulted in our group being refused entrance to the Vatican which would have ruined my mums once in a lifetime trip to Rome.
We had other issues with Presto tours also, my mum has limited mobility and we had phoned in advance and ordered a wheelchair - something which presto said they would organise for us. When we arrived, our guide had NO idea that we needed one which really did make my mum feel as if she was a problem for him. We did get a chair, but i ended up having to miss a good proportion of the tour as chairs are not allowed into the cathedral from the Sistine chapel so i had to take it all the way back to the entrance. Whilst this was not Presto tours fault, they did not know about the rule in advance, and given they had said in advance they would sort out the wheelchair we felt that they should have been aware of the rules to let us know over the telephone this was the case, before taking our money!!!

I have written an email to Presto expressing my disappointment at the guides behaviour, and received an initial reply to say that they would look into it and then nothing further. This is incredibly disappointing as for a company with such a good reputation i would have thought that they would want to ensure they look into this particular guide and respond to my complaint personally.

I would NOT recommend this tour company and am very disappointed that they never got back to me to refund the money that I paid for a tour we did not end up getting all of.

Dear Lisa, We are very sorry for your experience and as we have discussed in our private emails, we would like to offer you and your family a complimentary tour in the future. In addition, we have fully refunded you for this tour. To address this particular situation and your guide's behavior, there seems to have been some rude comments made by a guard and your guide got flustered because he was doing his best to give your group a good touring experience. Unfortunately, he lost his patience and this of course was unprofessional and did not improve your experience. There is certainly no excuse for his behavior on this day. We both apologize wholeheartedly. We sincerely hope to make this experience up to you and your family and hope that you see our commitment to our guests and the quality of tours demonstrated by sending you a full refund for the tour. Sincerely, Kirsten Presto Tours

The tour we took with Ryan on Monday 7th March 2011 was just perfect.
We were just a group of three people (can you believe it ?) and we skipped the
endless queues outside the Vatican Museum. Our quide Ryan was kind, patient and
informative. In just three and a half hours he showed all the highlights of the museum
collections and St Peter's Basilica and he was ready to answer all of our questions.
I suggest Presto Tours and Ryan to anyone who wants to visit Vatican.
One of the highlights of our visit to Rome.

I chose a tour with Presto Tours because of the excellent reviews from tripadvisor.
We were not disappointed. Our first tour was with Sandra. This was a 3 hour tour starting at the Forum, covering the Palatine hill and ending at the Colisseum. Sandra obviously knew a lot about the history of the Forum, she kept the interest of her group with stories and was very keen for us to ask questions. It was a very informative but fun tour, there were only 10 of us, so it was easy to hear Sandra speaking.
Prestos run semi-private tours, which means there is a maximum of 18 in the group. There was no rushing through the sites with a group of 40 following an umberella!
The 3 hours went very quickly and when we reached the Colisseum , we were glad to be part of a tour and skip the massively long queues. We just followed Sandra straight through into the building . We booked two tours with Presto's this one and a tour of the Vatican. I would recommend Presto's tours. Our guides Sandra and Ryan were both knowledgeable and entertaining, we had two great tours.

After reading advice on Trip Advisor we booked our Vatican & Sistine Chapel Tour (with PRESTO TOURS) online prior to leaving for Europe. Fantastic value!!!! No queuing, already having our voucher with clear directions on where to meet the tour and having a really passionate tour guide were such advantages. Tour guide "Ryan" was the expert that was advertised. He was extremely professional, knowledgable and very approachable with excellent people skills and outstanding communication skills. He was an absolute gem! By taking the tour on Monday (which includes St Peter's Basilica) we were also able to: visit the Crypt (level below the Basilica including tombs of the Popes) @ no charge, take the visit to the Cupola (the dome and roof) 7E to use the lift but no extra queuing, as well as arrange and collect our free tickets for attendance and seating at the Papal Audience in St. Peters Square held each Wednesday. On Ryan's suggestion at the end of our tour, we also took the opportunity to visit the Scarvi Office and were incredibly fortunate to obtain tickets (at 12E pp) for the extremely special Scavi tour of the ancient necropolis (including St Peter's Tomb).WOW!!!!!

Very well organised. At a very good price. Our tour guide knew her history and spoke very good English! Ear sets were provide. We got entrance into the Vatican within minutes.

Our group consisted of just 4 people...in comparison to other tour groups that consisted of 25!!!!

The tour was done at a steady pace. We were able to take photo's at leisure. Overall - 10 out of 10!!!! Would definantly book again.

Thanks!!!

Just returned from Rome and had a really great experience with Presto Tours. The meeting place is really specific, even with photos, so you never have to stress about missing your guide. Our first tour with Presto was of the Colosseum, Forum and Palentine Hill and only involved my group of 3, so it was like a private tour! John, our tour guide, was great! He was from California but now lives in Rome. John was very educated and passionate about Rome's history and he kept our interest throughout. Going to the Colessuem on your own or with a guidebook would not have been the same. John brought the place to life. The tour even went 20 minutes past the allotted time because of our questions and he was very knowledgeable. I would definitely go on a tour again with Presto and John.

Our second tour was a few nights later - the Rome Wine Tour with Etorre, an Italian , Sommelier, married to another Presto guide, Sarah. The tour was wonderful. We stopped at two Enotecas (wine bars) and shared 4 bottles of wine. This tour was so fun and it felt like an intimate dinner party. Etorre introduced us to wines based on our preferences and interests and spoke intelligently about each one. I learned a lot about Italy's wine history. Sarah (she's from San Diego) joined the tour and it was fun to compare and contrast experiences living in Italy and California - we were from San Diego. By the end of the night, not only did I learn about Italian wine, which I hope to find in the U.S. , but I felt like we had a three hour dinner party with friends.

we visited Rome during August 2009 as a family of two adults and two teenagers. We organised two tours one the Colosseum and Forum and the other was the Vatican. We met our guide Frederica (a native Roman) who made us instantly welcome. She guided us around both tours with great enthusiasm, passion, wit, charm and vast knowledge. She managed to hold our attention even in the sweltering heat!. Lucky enough to be part of a small party for both tours. Great not to have to queue. Thanks Frederica for making our visit to Rome truly fantastic. Would definitely use Presto again. The Williams family, Lancashire, England.
