About

Neighborhood: Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

- Melbourne family, Europe tourists84 contributionsMagical store, passionate staffWe happened across this beautiful store after dinner and we’re thrilled to find it. Adrius took care and time to explain the sun dial he had made to my son and created a truly special memory for him. He purchased it with his Christmas money and has something timeless he will keep forever. Thank you.Visited January 2020Traveled with familyWritten January 15, 2020
- William C3 contributionsLike stepping into a fairy tale…I happened upon this place by accident while wandering around the northern corner of Trastevere. The window caught my eye— partially hidden by ivy, it was full of intricate little devices and works of art. I’m so glad I let whimsy take me inside: it’s everything you could hope for in a secluded little curio shop in Rome. The artist, who I understand makes everything inside, is wonderful, too. I hope to return very soon.Visited July 2022Traveled soloWritten July 21, 2022
- Angie DAmes, Iowa73 contributionsSo intricate and lovely!I've visited Rome twice in the past couple of years, and this store is one I've visited three times over the two visits. It's so small and intricate, the items so detailed and lovely. Both of my children love their compasses and kaleidoscopes. These are hand-made gifts that will be family treasures. The staff is also wonderful. The artist is so kind and wonderful. I tried to speak my broken Italian to both him and his daughter, and they were sweet and helped me communicate. They hand-wrapped my gifts to make them even more special. Just a stunner of a shop.Visited September 2020Written August 20, 2021

We absolutely loved this store! The attention given by Adrius was over the top. He explained a lot of his items and then spent a lot of time personally sealing, with wax and our initials, each item we purchased. It’s neat to see some thing so unique and special among all the T-shirt shops and bars/restaurants. A true one of a kind. Thank you, Adrius for the special experience and gifts.

Go here NOW. We stopped here several times to pick out gifts. The owner is a charming man who told us he is closing the store in a couple of months so he can enjoy his retirement. While we wish him the best, it's too bad that people will no longer have the pleasure of shopping at this store. The merchandise is high quality and reasonably priced.

I've visited Rome 4 times now and love it a little more every time I return and on each visit iv paid a visit to polvere di tempo and come away with the hour glasses in my photo. Polvere di Tempo is my favourite shop on Rome and a proper little curiosity shop selling good quality souvenirs to cherish and enjoy long after your trip to the eternal city ends. I'm back again in October and a visit to this wonderful little shop is top of my to do list.

Located in Trastevere, with its windowshop drapped in ivy, this shop and workshop as well is like a cage full of wonders. Although inside there are plenty of time measurement and location finding instruments the magic of the place can easily make you forget the time and where you are, taking you back in time. The beautiful way of wrapping their products adds another reason why you should go there. So if you are looking for a present for a history or science fan, you should go to this store. Take your time and enjoy!

Easy top 3 of my 16 days trip all over Italy. If you're looking for unique handmade things or just want to see the time in its shape - you're welcome. Owners are very nice and will ask you all the questions. Prices are not expensive. One of the best places in the hole city to buy souvenirs to remember your trip.

My son and I passed a lovely part of our afternoon in this interesting and beautiful shop in Trastevere. The owner is a beautiful person who’s passion for his work was evident not only through the pieces themselves but in the time he spent with my son explaining how each thing worked so he could pick out the perfect gifts for his friends and a few keepsakes for himself. I enjoyed talking with him and we will visit again the next time we are in Rome. Beautiful, unique pieces and a one of a kind shop.

I read about this shop before my trip to Rome, and my husband and I made a point to visit it to buy gifts. We were greeted by Mariana, who owns the shop with her husband. Mariana was friendly and helpful, and she allowed us to take our time as we pored over every nook and cranny, marveling in everything we discovered. We selected many gifts, including compasses, clocks and leather-bound journals, and Mariana hand-wrapped each item beautifully and tied each package with cord and topped it off with red sealing wax stamped with the initial of the intended recipient. She also stamped a couple gifts with the shop's own custom stamp. Everything looks so classy! It's going to be hard to keep these beautiful gifts under wraps until Christmas. We just returned from Rome and found that every package made it home in our luggage with sealing wax intact and looking as beautiful as the moment Mariana wrapped them.
One item that I purchased for myself is a reproduction of an ancient map of Rome that is cut into sections and mounted on linen -- this is in the style of seafarers who folded their nautical charts rather than rolled them. Mariana's husband and co-owner, Adrian Rodriguez, creates these beautiful pieces. I'm going to have my chart mounted and will hang it prominently.
I strongly recommend everyone who visits Rome and has a little time and money for shopping to visit Polvere di Tempo. You won't find another shop like this anywhere else, and you'll find beautiful and unique gifts to take home and to remind yourself of the charm of Rome.
P.S. -- There's a good pizza place across the street!
