About
I'm Sophie Minchilli, half Italian, half American and fully in love with Italy. I'd like to show you Italy (and Rome in particular) (and food most of all) through my food tours and cooking classes. I will be giving you a little glimpse into the streets, homes and life of the Italy I love.

We were in Rome for about 4 days. With a busy schedule of museums, etc. we knew we wouldn't have time for a full food tour. So, we figured that the food itinerary was the perfect way to go. She booked 4 dinner reservations for us, which were all amazing and different to allow for trying different foods and environments! With that she also provided us a written out itinerary with other restaurant, gelato, and coffee bar recommendations. It even provided us with tips on eating in Italy to help blend in with their culture better! I cannot recommend Sophie's resources enough!

Cannot say enough good things about Sophie and her tour of Trastevere! I have been to Rome 4 or 5 times in the last couple of years but a tour with Sophie offers a look into the beautiful bits of Rome less known and appreciated by visitors. She's clearly a known and beloved part of the community she shows her clients. The personal touches were a bonus as she made a recommendation for a fantastic classic restaurant in the ghetto and even called to reserve for us!! 5+ stars!!!

Sophie’s knowledge about the markets, the produce, and her working relationships with the vendors are what sets her tour apart from run of the mill, generic operations. Vendors and chefs know you’re on the way so your tastes are ready for you and you can skip the line. All the tastes are included in your price. You won’t leave hungry or overstuffed.
Sophie also has the timing perfectly coordinated: you won’t be rushed, but you’ll stay on schedule. She’s happy to answer any questions, and keeps the group numbers small so you can each have attention.
Prepare to walk about 4 miles depending on where you’re coming from or heading to after the tour. Bring cash in case you want to buy from market vendors.

We just returned from an amazing 5 nights in Rome with our 2 daughters (not teens, 21 and 24). We had taken a food tour with Sophie the last time we visited Rome which was great, so we were looking forward to doing another one. Unfortunately, Sophie was in Puglia on a week long tour, but she did set us up with an amazing itinerary and reservations. All of the restaurants were beyond delicious, and hand picked to work around my daughter's food allergies as well as the locations of our activities (when she tells you to stop by the the tiny neighborhood market for sandwiches on the way to the Colosseum you go!) She included other suggestions for coffee, bakeries and gelato around the city which were delicious as well. We look forward to doing one of the week long excursions someday!
Btw - I should probably be writing this review from the seat of my Peloton! So much deliciousness!!

Thank you for the wonderful walk around Rome and the introduction to Roman food. We so loved the cheese, the fish, the marinara, and of course the gelato.
We so enjoyed getting to know Sophie.
We had the best time stepping inside places we'd been walking by without noticing, an d she added a depth of local culture to our time in Rome that we wouldn't have achieved alone as tourists in the city for only 2.5 days!
She offered us history, ancient and from personal, the moments that could have been long silent pauses, while we were enjoying the food were filled with her stories!
we are absolutely going to be recommending time with Sophie in Rome to our friends.

In May 2023 I was so fortunate to take a food tour in Umbria near the gorgeous mountain top town of Todi with Sophie Minchilli along with mom, Elizabeth Minchilli. Sophie’s knowledge and love of the wine, olive oil and food producers in the region is infectious! And what fabulous food and wine and olive oil we enjoyed each day! I could do it all over again! But next time Rome with Sophie!

Highly recommend working with Sophie for a personalized food itinerary. Our schedule didn’t permit going on a food tour (although we will make sure we book this next time), but we were able to enjoy lunch and dinner at restaurants Sophie recommended and made reservations for us to enjoy on our own.
I still dream about the pasta she recommended ordering from the lunch spot!

Sophie gave us a private tour of the some of the best parts of Rome and took us into places we would never have found and (most importantly) introduced us to new friends who own these shops and restaurants. We love finding food that is 'life changing' and at the same time, owned by families that have had these businesses for generations. Such treasures...thanks, Sophie!!

I can’t imagine a better experience than touring through Rome with Sophie and sampling the most delicious cuisine the city has to offer. Of course the food was amazing, but coupled with Sophie’s knowledge and passion for the culture of the city truly made for an unforgettable experience. There is no question that Sophie is the unofficial mayor of Rome - as a native of the city, she knows everyone and everything! I am still dreaming of all of the things we ate that day, and cannot wait to return to Rome and let Sophie lead us around town again.

A morning walking the neighborhood of Trastevere with Sophie was the perfect way to get to know Rome in a new and very personal way. Sophie's tour goes beyond the obvious places to special spots where passionate, friendly people are making delicious food with care and excellence. Her obvious love of these people is clearly reciprocated. They lit up when she walked into a shop and you had the feeling you were getting extra-special tastes and insights. Sophie is so easy-going and engaged, the morning went by quickly. I recommend this tour to newcomers to Rome and also regular visitors. Her choices are unexpected, delicious and fun and the very personal experience makes the tour memorable.

Hi - can someone tell me how much the tours typically cost (small group, not private)? Thank you!
Written October 9, 2017
Sophie's AMAZING tour was USD$135/person (including PayPal fees). We had a very small group of 4 but I don't think she ever has more than 6. It was worth every cent, she is fabulous!!!

My husband and I did the culinary itinerary and Morning in the Market. We loved both. In fact, the restaurants she suggested, we visited twice during our five days in Rome. We hope you have a great time!
