This fountain sits on the west side of the Piazza and is mate to the fountain opposite. Statuary is Neptune standing with trident in hand, flanked by two mermen each with a dolphin. The water feature is rather uninspiring, compared to the statuary; it consists...More

Fontana del Nettuno is located by the side of Piazza del Popolo. The fountain of Neptune with two attendants is one of the highlights in the Square.

The fountain and Obelisk are the centre piece, of a very impressive piazza (see review, Piazza Del Popolo). Some could say a fountain is a fountain, however we are always impressed how different the many fountains of Rome are. We especially like this one as...More

Located on the surrounds of Piazza del Popolo, stands the monumental fountain of Neptune (with two attendants), constructed in the early 1800 as part the aqueduct system. This ornate fountain adds to the beauty of a very impressive square.

Dating back almost 450 years, the basin of the fountain is relatively plain, sculpted from reddish marble, though the shape is an interesting geometric figure. The statues were added in the 19th century to complement the others in the plaza.

The water sprout out from the mouth of the carved lion and it is wide like an elongated tongue. It is situated at the center close to the obelisk.
