We had a tour with Maria of both the Colosseum and Vatican, during our trip to Rome. We have children aged 5,10 and 12.

The Colosseum tour was truly outstanding, the kids were fully engaged, and loved every minute. Maria has an amazing way to keep the kids fully engaged, treating the tour like a game, with points and a prize (the kids won!). By far the best tour for kids and adults and alike, I have ever been on. Maria was also able to seamlessly shift attention between our 5 year old, and the older kids. The adults also absolutely loved it. This tour blew us out of the water.

We had a Vatican tour as well. I would say that this is a much more challenging tour to engage kids. We are not a Christian family, and we don’t have a background in Christian theology, but Maria was sensitive to this, and worked hard to make it as relevant as possible. Ultimately most of the Vatican is a large museum of ancient roman pieces and not particularly interesting to kids (certainly not compared to the Colloseum).

We were overall very pleased with Maria and highly recommend her to anyone looking to tour Rome with kids. I would however think carefully about touring the Vatican if you are a non-Christian family, or at least expectations should be tempered.

We loved this tour! Rosie was an excellent tour guide who was engaging to kids and adults. There were plenty of stories, details and encouragements to get involved re-enacting a gladiator fight. We would absolutely recommend this tour for anyone with children (ours were aged 11 and 14 and both were more than happy!)

We went on a Walking Tour of the City in Rome with Tomasso (Tom), taking in the main sites such as the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Piazza Novona. Tom was brilliant with the kids making the tour interesting whilst also fun - i am not sure there is anything about Rome that he doesn't know. The fact he was an archeologist and his enthusiasm was awesome. Best tour of our holiday and would thoroughly recommend.

Our Pompeii tour was truly amazing! Granted it didn't start out that way because of some misunderstanding of meeting point with the admin but outside of that - Pompeii tour was unforgettable and thanks to our tour guide Roberta! She took care of the problem in the beginning and turned it around so that's 5 stars in my book. Roberta was fun and full of fascinating stories. The kids truly enjoyed their time and playing games the whole time. As for Pompeii, it was incredible and was a lot bigger than I expected and very well preserved. she also gave the kids some cute souvenirs at the end which they appreciated. Highly recommend Roberta as your tour guide.

Absolutely 5 out of 5! Alessandra was passionate and engaged the kids throughout the tour with games and insights to the Colosseum that they related to. Such a treat to have her just for our small group and tailor the visit to our interests. We also skipped the queues!

My family and I came from Buffalo, NY and spent 3 days visiting Rome.with Alessandro. She was amazing with my 9 year old daughter and my family. She made learning fun for all of us. If we ever get another chance to come back I will book another tour with her.

We booked three tours with Rome Tours with Kids for our three boys ages 14, 13 and 12. It was not only effective, but each experience was rewarding. We toured the Colosseum and Vatican with Mariaclaudia and the third tour was in Pompeii with Roberta.

Some things to consider when booking a tour are:

a) the cost. We found that for five of us, the cost was prohibitive. Tours are expensive but we opted to do less organized activities and instead put our eggs in this financial basket. For five people. it averaged about $60 per person for 3 hours. We got individual attention and go to call the shots (i.e. would we rather spend more time at the colosseum or split it equally with the Roman Forums.

b) defense ;-) My husband and I often joke that with three boys, we have to play a 'zone' defense because 'man on man' is not an option. All in all, when you are in a foreign country teaming with people, I can't express how comforting it is for an extra set of eyes to be on your kids. My oldest was feeling a bit under the weather from a head cold one day, and she was able to keep him engaged and interested. In fact, he remarked later that he regrets not feeling better that day. If he enjoyed his tour NOT feeling well, imagine if he had been 100%! I like that we had someone who helped us keep track of our kids during the very busy Easter week (especially at the Vatican).

c) the ability to tailor tours. My youngest son was tasked with a project at school before he left for his Spring Break about the middle ages. We told the guides his assignment and they helped incorporate the historical context of what we were seeing with his assignment. He now knows this project better than most because of all the ways he saw it come to life.

d) they just aren't adults....yet. We wanted our kids to be excited about all the 'stuff' in Italy, not just feel like they were being dragged to museums to read placards. You can't see everything, but this is a fantastic way to incorporate all the things that make Rome ROME without the repetition of memorization and regurgitation. Learning works best when it's hands on and this age (in particular) tends to learn well from a 'stranger' rather than their parents or self-motivation.

I highly recommend the professionalism and content of this companyh and their tours.

We recently travelled to Rome with our friends and booked the service of Tours with kids due to the fact we had 6 children (aged 15, 12, 9, 9, 6 and 5) between our two families. We were honoured to have the magical services of Maria for both the Colosseum and Vatican tours. She was absolutely remarkable the way she kept the children and ourselves encapsulated for over 3 hours in extremely hot conditions. Her knowledge and enthusiasm was second to none. I have been on tours before in Rome and nothing compares to what we experienced with our gorgeous guide Maria. I can only hope we will get back there again one day and have the privilege to use the services of this company again. Thank you

We are a family of five, including an 8 year old girl and two 5 year old boys. We booked the Roman Colosseum/Roman Forum Tour and the Vatican/Saint Peter's Basilica Tour through Rome Tours with Kids. Our guide was Maria for both Tours.

Before our tour, our contact was Camilla, who was always responsive to our questions via email. Through no fault of Rome Tours with Kids, there was a potential complication with our Colosseum Tour. Upon our arrival in Rome, I had email messages, voice mail messages and multiple messages sent to our hotel from Camilla describing the situation along with multiple alternative options to choose from. As it turned out, the anticipated strike by the workers at the Roman Forum did not occur as scheduled and our tour continued as scheduled without issue. I was impressed however, that Camilla was so proactive in informing us of the issue ahead of time, being so thorough in attempting to contact us, and proactively finding solutions to the potential problem.

As for our tour guide, Maria was outstanding! Our children are quite different from one another in regards to their areas of interests, their levels of knowledge about Roman history and their attention span in general. Maria was able to customize the tour to keep all three kids interested and engaged for the duration of both Tours! Even my wife and I remained captivated and learned a lot from the tours. Rome was a concern for my wife and I during the planning process. We weren't sure that our kids would find the art and history of Rome interesting or enjoyable. Our kids are usually more interested in beaches and pools than museums and churches. It is a credit to Maria that at the conclusion of our Italian vacation, all three kids ranked Rome as their favorite destination in Italy. This from kids who on the train to Rome from the Amalfi Coast asked if Rome's beaches were as nice as the one in Positano! Further testament to Maria's attributes as a guide, our kids continued to ask if Ms. Maria would be guiding us in the remaing cities we visited. Even my wife and I would wonder how much more we would have enjoyed and learned about the remaining sites and museums we visited had Maria been with us during the remainder of our holiday!

Maria even had some great restaurant recommendations in Rome!

In conclusion. We would not hesitate to book future Tours with Maria or recommend Maria's services to family or friends. Our only "complaint" is that Maria only offers Tours in Rome!

We had the pleasure of a Percy Jackson themed tour of the Capitoline Museum with Maria a few days ago and it was not only the best guided tour of our trip but also the best day of our holiday!

My 12 and 9 year old daughters have read and watched Percy Jackson but the grown ups have just watched the films and Maria pitched the tour perfectly - keeping us all engaged and interested - more than interested - excited! She made it a game, learning as we went with a lot of fun.

We wished we had done the Colosseum tour with Maria too - I am sure she would have given us an awesome introduction to the city.

If you’re thinking of any guided tour, book it with Maria - you won’t regret it!
