Disappointed

We saw the board outside the hotel where this Spa is situated, advertising its treatments and the prices. My partner and I decided to go and check it out. There were no signs inside the entrance of the hotel for the spa, lucky we saw a porter or waiter (am not sure what he was) and he very kindly showed us the way. We rang the bell and a lady greeted us and escorted us down some very steep stairs, it was so hot in this place, it felt like a sauna. We were greeted by another lady, I asked for a couple's massage some time that day she offered us 6pm and the price was €150. We arrived on time, we were greeted again by the same ladies and one of them showed us the room, the room was quite nice only the wall was mouldy,it didn't look very nice actually. The 2 Ladies came in 1 was Thai and the other Italian. I asked to have the Thai lady to massage me as my partner prefers a medium massage, I like it stronger. The lady started my massage, she didn't cover me with a towel which was fine as I was lying on my front, her massage was quite good at time she hurt me so I had to tell her to go a little easy. When she asked me to turn over, there was still no towel I had to ask for a towel to cover myself. Then she started to massage my leg when she disappeared out of the room without a word, with the door open she was talking to a man in French, she just left me there, while the other lady was massaging my partner. I opened my eyes and I said where's the lady, she half way through my massage and she just left me without saying anything. The other lady said oh sorry, she's only been gone a minute, and she was a bit rude to me. I was so upset that i got up, I got dressed and waited till my partner finished. They were so unprofessional and there was no manager on duty, the supervisor was the Italian therapist so couldn't complain to no one. I refused to pay a penny towards my massage. My partner was very happy with his massage and with the therapist. She did offer me to go in the next morning and she would do my massage for my, but after the drama I decided I wasn't going to go back. I went to relax, I came out all stressed definitely a thumbs down.

I purchased the Diamond couples package on Groupon for €99 which included a 40-minute full-body massage, a reflexology-foot massage, access to the spa area, black Hammam soap wash, tea, an aloe scrub and an aperitif.

When we arrived, they charged us a refundable €5 for flip-flops, which I found a bit off-putting. This is a spa on Via Veneto and I did expect it to be a bit more elegant than this. They gave us the massage first, but we were in separate rooms, which is not very romantic for a couple's package. While I found my masseuse to be OK in general, she completely skipped one foot on the already measly foot massage. When I told her about this, she insisted that she had done both feet. While I suppose she simply forgot, I would expect you to do both feet once the customer is telling you that you skipped one, especially as we were still in the massage room. I suppose they have never heard of, 'The customer is always right' in Italy.

We were then escorted to the spa area, which was fine until another couple joined us. There was nothing wrong with the other couple, but again, it went against the whole 'romantic couples package' idea.

The tea that was served in the spa area was already prepared in pitchers with sugar already added as well. I had brought my own organic green tea, but there was no hot water option, just the pitchers.

Then it was time for our Hammam wash and scrub. That's when they walked in and handed us a single small bowl of a creamy black soap and another bowl with the scrub for us to share. I had expected them to do it on a table, but it wasn't so. We were to do it ourselves. They instructed us to go into the steam room and told us what to do.

I couldn't decide whether to give them a poor rating or an average one and I decided on average if you are getting a deal on Groupon or similar. Do not expect it to be a high-end spa just because it's inside a hotel on Via Veneto. This could easily have been in any basement in Rome or really anywhere. There are no perks. The price we paid was fine for what we got, which was a relaxing Sunday morning.

One pet peeve of mine that I have to mention in the hopes that the spa owner is getting this translated. The English text on all of their posters hung throughout the spa was so wrong it was laughable. They need to get a real translator, even Google translate would do a better job than just picking up a dictionary and blindly translating it word for word.

The aperitif we got, consisted of two plastic flutes of sparkling white wine, 4 tiny cookies like what you get on an airplane, an orange and an apple. I don't see the point of this at all. It feels like a waste of money for them to provide something crappy just so they can add an additional option on the coupon. I think this would backfire, since no one would return and pay full price for any of their services.

If they just want to get people in the door, then they have succeeded. But I would think it would be ideal for customers to then return and pay full price. I don't believe anyone would do such a thing nor would I suggest you do.

If you've bought a coupon, have no expectations, eat before going and you'll have a nice time. We were fine, nothing more, nothing less. If you're considering buying a coupon, just know that you aren't getting more bang for your buck and you can proceed. Anyone else, DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE. There are much better spas in the area and they charge accordingly.

We arrived and had our couple’s massage which we thought was together but lack of language translated to at the same time. It was a nice massage for both of us, no complaints as the Lomi Lomi felt like multiple hands at once. The language barrier did have us feeling a bit lost but we enjoyed each of the offerings. The only downer was the tiny ness of the sauna and the Turkish Bath that came in a creamy black soap. We expected something that was more gritty but the staff was very helpful and we felt pampered after a lot of hiking these past few days. The Prosecco at the end was very nice as well.
