My guide was Claudia Pinci of Roman Trails (formerly Roman Walks) apart from being a Greco Roman archaeologist, she is Roman born and passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the city of Rome. The tours of the Forum, Palatine and Coliseum were full of interesting details and facts that I would have missed even though I am also an archaeologist though a Geoarchaeologists, so I found the construction techniques of great interest and Claudia could assist.
The walking tour that included the Pyramid area, Tiber Island and Trastevere was fascinating and interesting as well as showing different aspects of the Roman and Medieval Rome. Tiber island's 3000 year association with healing was great as was the River Tiber.
I wish Claudia had been available when I visited Ostia as I feel I would have got a lot more out of my visit there.
In conclusion Claudia is an excellent, friendly and knowledgable guide whose English is also very good and he guiding great value for your money.

We did the ancient Rome Walking tour that started at 2.00 pm and finished up around 5.00 pm, as the temperatures we're above 35 degrees I would recommend packing allot of water and be dressed appropriately.

Although we packed in over 10 tours while in Rome, I was particularly impressed with this one mainly thanks to the tour guide as she was a fully trained archaeologist that was actually involved in the excavations of most of the sites we visited, therefore we could hear the back story of many of the excavations that took place. we started off at the Colosseum and skipped the 100 metres line and went straight in. this was great considering the heat at the time.

We then proceeded though the ancient ruins of the Roman forum before heading our way towards the Trevi fountain which was covered up for restorations which was a little bit disappointing however couldn't be helped. I have seen the Trevi fountain previously and is absolutely magnificent so Believe after the restorations are finished this would be another highlight in the tour. After the fountain we continued onto the oldest church in Rome which is the Pantheon.

Would I do Again? Yes definately

Claudia Pinci is the worst tour guide I have ever encountered. Let me explain;

On May 15, 2019 I contacted ms. Pinci through vayable.com a site that allows you you to select a local tour guide. Her CV was excellent. She answered my initial query as to her qualifications and ability to be our tour guide using the SUPER ticket tour of the Roman Forum and houses on the Palatine Hill, about a two and a half hour tour for June 8, 2019. She offered to purchase and pick up the tickets. I gave her my credit card number. She bought the four tickets. (My credit card was charged for the correct amount I have not seen the tickets)

During the next two weeks she and I spoke concerning details of the tour. We spoke by email through the Vayable website. She wrote me to meet at the Main Gate Box Office of the Forum. at 1000 June 8.

On June 8 I Sent four messages to Her WhatsApp phone advising of our traveling/arrival time: 0757, 0855, 0909 & our 0938 arrival time at Main Gate Box Office entrance to Forum. None of these messages were acknowledged by her. The last WhatsApp message was at 1038 when we left a No Show review to Vayable.

We then left to try and salvage our last day together in Rome. After a tour of St Peters we had lunch and then walked over to tour Castle Sant’ Angelo.

While touring there my phone rang it was ms Pinci wanting to know why I did not show up for the tour! Her call to me was after 1300! She said she had waited for two hours and that I had gone to the wrong entrance! I explained we arrived and waited for her at 0938 at the Forum Main Gate & Box Office, we asked half a dozen tour guides if they were her, we asked employees if there was another Main Gate & Ticket Office (NO). We phoned her several times while waiting. No answer.

She indignantly stated “IT WAS NOT MY FAULT” because her phone had broken. She was unable to borrow a colleagues phone, and repeated it was not her fault, that her phone had just broke.

(NB: On July 17 she said that her phone had broken on June 7! And somehow just got it repaired Saturday afternoon!!)

I told her that she needed to accept responsibility for this and that we were finishing our tour and remaining time together before leaving for the USA the following day. I would call her Monday then hopefully she would accept responsibility and we could mutually resolve this matter.

Sadly that was not and has not been the case.

I haven spoken to several people at Coopculture that asked me for information and, hoping to somehow extend the use of the tickets I tried to get the information from ms Pinci. She has refused all requests. She even sent me ticket numbers that did not exist in the Coopculture system. She has refused to mail me the my tickets that I paid for. She has refused to send the credit card receipt to me. And she refused to accept any personal responsibility for not showing up for this tour.

I blame vayable.com as they have not vetted ms pinci nor advised her of her past reviews. This is her second (posted) NO SHOW I would not recommend ms Pinci, nor vayable.com to arrange any guide service. I can only hope others will learn from my mistake.

Our group of 5 was sorely disappointed in Claudia’s Ancient Rome tour, even though we had read good reviews on TripAdvisor.

Claudia was distracted and tired. She shared no new information with us and in fact told us a few things we knew to be incorrect. It was far below the quality we expected from an archaeologist and even a layperson tour guide.

We stopped our tour in the middle, said goodbye to Claudia and visited the Forum ourselves. We also cancelled a Hidden Rome tour we had scheduled with her.

In addition, Claudia’s command of English was not strong. We do not recommend this tour at all. We rarely leave critical reviews about anything but felt the need to inform others about our experience.

A fantastic and informative walking tour by a very experienced tour guide (also an archeologist) enjoyed every minute. There was a lot of walking so take water.

We took this tour through Carrani Tours & it turned out to be about the best value activity we did in Rome. Our guide, Eddie, was fantastic - very knowledgable & entertaining. The information he shared was wonderful - we toured Constantine Hill, Roman Forum & the Colosseum and areas in between, plus it was great to bypass the queues to get straight into the Colosseum.
If we get to Rome again we would definitely do the tour again to pick up on the snippets we missed.

We did the “Hidden Rome” tour and it was really excellent, maybe the best thing we did on our trip to Rome. We saw the old Roman fruit market and got a sense of real ancient Roman life, then the fascinating underground temples and the theatre of Marcellus and the Pantheon. The guide (Claudia) had a professional archeologist’s knowledge and passion (and was so friendly!), and allowed us to understand what we were looking at, not just more old stones. If you want to see more of Rome than just the postcard sites and the other tourists, and if you want not just to see but to understand, I seriously recommend this tour and this tour guide.

I was recently in Rome and had an amazing walking tour of ancient Rome with Claudia Pinci at romanwalks.com I found Claudia when researching tours of the forum and the house of Augustus. It is the only tour I found that provided a detailed tour of the house of Augustus. Claudia is an expert archaeologist and local that has extensive knowledge of ancient rome. It is one of the best tours I have ever taken. She took my boyfriend and I for a walk through the roman forum, Palatine hill, house of Augustus, and Colosseum. She provided informative and interesting information at each site. I strongly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a personal and highly interesting tour. She provides a variety of tours and can certainly tailor a tour to meet your individual interests. www.romanwalks.com
