This was fairly high on my list and I stood in The National Roman Museum staring at it for quite a long time. It’s a special and emotionally evoking, Greek Bronze sculpture because not many , of this type, from 330 BC have survived. Archeologists know it is Greek and know it was buried in Rome in anticipation of a huge sacking by The Goths. The detail in the scarred face and the sinewy muscled body are truly mesmerizing. It appears that The Boxer took a lot of punches to the face, indicated by a broken nose. The internet thinks The Boxer has lost the fight. But, since The Boxer is still wearing the equivalent of a boxing glove, I tend to believe The Boxer is getting ready to go back in, for another beating. This has to be in the top five things for tourists to see in Rome.

Michael was so willing to share his knowledge and a true gentleman and great driver. Irene was amazing and so educational. Raphaella was perfect at the Vatican.

We took the Ancient Monuments of Rome Small Group Tour with Skip-the-Line Pass through Mea ToursEvents. This was NOT a skip-the-line tour. We waited in line for a very long time while others passed by on both sides of us. Luckily our tour guide Louise was able to provide us with lots of information of what we were about to see (at the Coliseum). She was a fantastic tour guide. However, because of the length of time we spent waiting in line, our actual time inside was cut short. We did 3 "Skip-the-Line" Tours while we were in Rome. The 2 through City Wonders Tours were both as they said...no waiting in line. This one was not.

My daughter and I are here for the weekend and we wanted to do some tours while here but without having to rush around all day so this half day tour of the Colosseum and the Forum seemed like the perfect compromise. We were met at our hotel by our guide Allessandro who was warm and friendly and spoke excellent English. We took a cab to the Colosseum and on the way he pointed out many things of interest that were not part of our tour. We arrived at the Colosseum and our guide ushered us through the huge crowds outside and got us in very quickly. Once inside he showed us round at our own speed taking time to give us full explanations and also finding some spaces away from the crowds and also helping us to take some great pictures as well. When we finished there we then walked over to the Forum where he did as good a job as he had at the Colosseum. We went round at our own speed and he took the time to make sure that we were happy with what he was telling us and again ushered us away from the crowds but without missing the things we wanted to see and also more great pictures. It really was worth paying a bit extra for a private guide as I feel that this enabled us to the most out of the tour. I would highly recommend this tour and I should add that it was recommended to me by the concierge at my hotel with whom I was in regular contact before arriving in Rome.

Yesterday my 14 year old son and I were lucky enough to have Angelica from Joy of Rome tours show us around the Colosseum, Roman forum and Palatine Hill. I had been to the Colosseum 15 years before but my son’s only experience was watching the movie “Gladiator”. We were advised by our Air BNB host to use Joy of Rome and were not disappointed. From the time that I contacted them through their website I received rapid and helpful answers to my questions and opted for a private tour. Angelica was friendly and very informative, making the ruins come to life with her words and helpful pictures of what these ruins would have been like in Roman times. I particularly enjoyed Palatine Hill which was a quiet retreat in the middle of Rome with additional history and stories. My son also thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and the private nature allowed in depth discussion and questions on a range of historical and archeological topics. Thank you Angelica and thank you Joy if Rome for a wonderful tour!
