I want to pay the highest compliment to Oliver (and his wife) for giving me a wonderful comprehensive tour of the center of Rome in a single day tour. Oliver was great at answering my e-mail inquiries before the tour and even helped me arrange a down payment to reserve the tour and final payment at the end or the tour. Before the tour Oliver sent out a personalized PDF that gave a detailed historical description of most of the ancient buildings in Rome. From this I was able to pinpoint certain locations I wanted to see over others. To begin the tour Oliver went out of his way to pick me up at my hotel near the airport and then drop me off again at the end of the tour. He picked me up around 1PM and we began our trip into Rome. The first stop was a wonderful hillside park that gave a great overview of the areas we would be seeing. We traveled a total of 13 miles (20km) on our tour. Some of this was driving to different locations but most of it was a detailed walking tour highlighting the historic locations. I wanted the night tour included so I could get photos of various buildings after dark, so our tour ended with him dropping me off after midnight. I was a bit concerned at communicating with a German in Italy but his English speaking skills were excellent. If you want a photo tour of Rome with a professional photographer I don't think you can go wrong with ROME PHOTO TOURS AND WORKSHOPS. He even loaned me a couple of his Canon lenses to try during the tour. Here are some of my photos: www.panoramio.com/user/3507347/tags/Rome

We met with Oliver for a evening/night medieval Rome Photo Tour. The entire experience night was excellent starting from several weeks before the tour when he emailed me a detailed google map of our planned trek, with a separate ebook detailing the highlights that we would be photographing.

Oliver met us directly at my rental apartment and took us on a tour that lasted a total of 5 hours. His advice and attention to detail was invaluable. His teaching style low key, but informative. Best of all I came home with some fantastic photographs.

I would highly recommend.

I took this tour with Oliver Blum, the owner and tour leader, in May of 2013. It exceeded my expectations and gave me photo opps of Rome I would otherwise not known about. I did a morning light tour of the major medieval sites and an evening/night tour of the ancient sites. Both were fabulous. Oliver is a professional photographer and helped me greatly with both composition and light but also with gaining access to new angles and different perspectives of traditional Roman scenes. He was very flexible and adapted the tour to fit my needs and desired subjects. Beyond that, he offered suggestions on sites I'd never heard of and opened my eyes to new subjects. Highly recommended.

I was fortunate to book a morning and evening (all day) photo tour of Rome with Oliver Blum in September 2018. He was very fast and responsive to all emails and, despite a half marathon taking place on the day of the tour, he was right on time, outside my hotel, to pick me up. He is an excellent photographer and I learned a lot of tips from him (your photo should tell a story, make the picture not just take them, symmetry is important, photo triangle, and make sure lines are straight!!). But don't think this was just a lecture series...it was a great, practical experience of taking photos using different techniques that is tailored to what the client wants to learn. I would go back to Rome just to take this photo course from Oliver Blum again! Highly recommended.

I would like to start off by saying that Oliver met us at our hotel (which was some distance away from where the night tour began) and not only was he very hospitable and he made us feel safe in the different locations we went. As for the tour, well it was beyond our expectations as we learnt and composed Rome from his eye as well as what we developed on our own. Oliver is very accommodating when he realised that we wanted to learn night photography and this tour is highly recommended to any one at any level in their photography career and would find that any questions asked to Oliver would be answered. be sure to give Oliver a call when in his area, you would discover Rome at night time. is tutorage allowed us to continue going out at night on our own after we took the tour.

I was fortunate to find Oliver’s night tour of Rome. Oliver picked me up from my hotel and returned me safely. I was female and travelling alone and Oliver made sure I was accommodated at all times. He not only assisted me with taking photos but gave me an amazing insight into Rome and it’s culture. I am so happy with his tutorials, advice and photos I wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Oliver has so much knowledge and I appreciate him graciously sharing his amazing skills with me. With sincest thanks Oliver.

Sometimes you see reviews on Trip Advisor and question if a 5-star rating has been "inflated". If you spend some time with Oliver, you’ll know that the rating is well-deserved.

As someone else said, we’ve hired pro photographers to take us around their part of the planet and instruct us on where and how to capture memorable images. Sometimes, that instruction was lacking substance, or the locations were not particularly memorable. In Oliver’s case, though, he exceled in both his ability to instruct and to choose viewpoints, even in typical “tourist” places, that we would not have considered. Yes, many of the photos you see in the reviews are at the viewpoints to which he’ll take you, but you’ll likely still come back with photos of sites you would want to photograph. And with Oliver’s instruction, those photos will probably be better than most of us amateurs would produce. You will learn that his motto (as he told us leaving the Pantheon) is (paraphrased): “Symmetry is the key to a great photo.”

If there’s a downside, it’s that Oliver’s services aren’t particularly low cost, but we did feel that he delivered on his advertised offerings. My father used to say, “you get what you pay for.” So, we paid quite a bit, but we feel we got quite a bit from Oliver. We’d certainly contract with him again. One small alert: if he lets you use his tilt-shift lens to photograph some of the buildings, you’ll probably get infected by an urge to get one for your own future architecture shots!

Oliver was fantastic from start to finish. He met us at our hotel and taught us how to purchase bus tickets and how to travel by bus. As we had just arrived in Rome this was very important. I would highly recommend the evening/night tour of Ancient Rome. At night the crowds are greatly decreased and Oliver knows the perfect locations to obtain fantastic photos. Oliver is a true professional and can help almost any level of photographer improve their technique. He convinced me that I should be using live view and manually focus whenever possible. This has already improved the sharpness of my photos greatly. I did take phototours with other companies while in Rome. Oliver is somewhat more expensive but well worth the extra cost. I understand Oliver is moving to Barcelona in the near future and I plan to book a Barcelona phototour with him in the future.

Just back from two weeks in Italy and a week in Rome. The three day workshop with Oliver Blum was truly the highlight of my adventure. Oliver is truly a world class teacher , photographer and human being. With an amazing amount of patience, he has upgraded my photography and photo editing skills. My sixty year old head is still spinning with all the ideas and techniques . The work at night in ancient Rome was far above my expectations. I am already trying to find a way to get back to Europe and to spend a few more days with Oliver Blum.

Doing a photo walk with Oliver is like seeing Rome through his eyes. He knew the best spots and suggested the best angles for interesting photos. It was very easy to book a tour with Oliver and he is open to having extra people join who are just tagging along for the walk and not the photo tutorial.

My sister and I got a primer on doing architectural photography (I'm more of a portrait and landscape photographer) and, looking through my Italian photos, there's an uptick in winners with my new architectural eye.

Oliver had brought several lenses, including his tilt-shift, for us to try out and we had a blast walking through the Roman Renaissance points of interest and ending in the more idyllic and less crowded Trastevere.

I would highly recommend Oliver for those wanting to improve their photography skills and get many beautiful photos from their walk through Rome.
