Neighborhood: Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.

    DEDICATED TO HERCULES VICTOR
If you are on your way to take a photo with the famous Mouth of Truth in the Basilica of Santa María in Cosmedin, you will surely see this ancient temple dedicated to Hercules Victor. It has a circular shape. with Greek design, surrounded by 20 Corinthian columns and almost 15 meters in diameter. Its construction dates back to 120 BC. being the oldest in Rome. In 1132 it was converted into a church.

Well preserved 2nd-century B.C. Greek Temple
There are a couple of interesting ancient temples to see at Piazza della Bocca della Verita on the east side of the Tiber including the Temple of Hercules Victor, a round Greek peripteral style temple built during the 2nd century B.C. It is surrounded and supported by 20 Corinthian style columns nearly 10 metres in height. It seems 19 are original while the tin roofing was added much later. It is well worth a look-see when passing through on your way to Trastevere or if sightseeing nearby.

The oldest structure in Rome- made with Roman pillars
The oldest structure in Rome- made with Roman pillars. The oldest building standing in Rome, dates back to the second century BC and today represents the oldest building in Rome still standing. There were hardly any tourist here, the fountain was also dry. This needs better attention.

    Quick Stop!
Wonderful place to stop after visiting mouth of truth! Recommend looking up the history and taking five minutes to read about . Unfortunately you can’t enter either of the buildings but the have wonderful facades! It was very empty when I visited in November and it looks like it’s getting updated prior to the jubilee!( Hopefully they may open it for next year)

    Tempio di Ercole Vincitore
The "Tempio di Ercole Vincitore" (Temple of Hercules Victor) is sometimes still referred to as "Tempio di Vesta" (Temple of Vesta): it was mistaken for a temple of Vesta due to its round shape. It is completely surrounded by a colonnade (but one column is missing). It dates from the 2nd century BC, and it is the earliest surviving mostly intact marble building in Rome and the only surviving one made of Greek marble. The tile roof is a later addition. It was converted into a church by 1132, and restored back to a temple at the beginning of the 19th century. Additional restorations were carried out in 1996.

To go inside you need to pre book as part of a guided tour with the nearby Temple of Portunus, only available two days a week. This is an old, Greek style temple that is visible from the Palatine Hill. It is next to the Theatre of Mercellus, in the Forum Boarium area.

The temple was built in the second century BC and also served as a church as the population converted from pagansim. It's in a nice area near the Tiber with benches nearby.

The structure is one of the oldest in Rome, dating from the 2nd century B.C. Hercules was the protector of oil producers. Expensive pentelic marble was used, showing the power of the equestrian class. It is near the Temple of Portunus.

Beautiful temple that appears on the way between the Monument to Vittorio Manuelle and the Boca della Verita.

The temple itself is an ancient Roman building located south of the Temple of Portunus, in the Forum Boarius. It is a monopterous temple, with a circular plan and a Greek peristyle design, that is, completely surrounded by columns. This arrangement caused many to mistakenly take it for a temple of Vesta, but it has been proven to be a temple of Hercules.

Dated around the year 120 BC. C., the temple is 14.8 m in diameter and consists of a circular cella within a concentric ring of 20 Corinthian columns 10.66 m high resting on tuff foundations. These elements support an architrave and a roof that have disappeared. The original wall of the cella and the columns are preserved but the current tile roof is a later addition. Andrea Palladio suggested a dome, although this was apparently wrong. It was rebuilt by Tiberius in the year 15, in Luni marble. The temple is the oldest preserved marble building in Rome.

To see it in passing.

Temple of Hercules Victor/Winner is located above the Vario Forum, very close to the Mouth of Truth. Due to an error, originating during the Renaissance, the temple is sometimes still popularly known as the Temple of Vesta; the error is due to its circular shape which makes it similar to the royal temple of Vesta located in the Roman Forum. It dates back to around 120 BC. C. and it is the oldest marble building preserved in Rome, so we are talking about it being around 1,900 years old and counting. Most likely the main reason was that it was converted into a Christian church during much of its life (the oldest mention of the temple is from the year 1140 AD and it was called Santa María del Sole). At the beginning of the 19th century, Valadier restored the church and at the end of the century the old Roman temple was deconsecrated and restored, eliminating the internal ornaments and masonry walls. Nice building near the Boca de la Verdad

The Temple of Hercules Victor or Hercules Olivarius is an ancient Roman building located in one of the most significant squares in Rome, that one of the Bocca della Verità, (Forum Boarium).
It is a monopteros, a term used to describe circular temples in the Greek style completely surrounded by columns supporting a roof but without any walls.
This feature made proppe suppose that it was a temple of Vesta, the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and family, but in reality it has been shown and confirmed that it is a temple of Hercules.
Dated around 120 BC, the temple has a diameter of 14.8 m, with 20 Corinthian columns 10.66 m high.
It was rebuilt by Tiberius in the year 15 in Luni marble (Carrara white marble) and is the oldest preserved in Rome.
In 1132 the temple was transformed into a church, known as St. Stephen of the Carriages.
It is certainly one of the most iconic buildings in Rome, in an area of the historic center where time seems to have always stood still.

One of the smallest but one of the best preserved temples in Rome, originally built about 400 BC but rebuilt again around 100 BC. Also known as the temple of 'Fortuna Virilis' (Manly Fortune).
It is dedicated to Portunus, the god of keys, doors and livestock, and so granaries, it is the main temple dedicated to the god in the city.
It has a double fence around it.
If you are on the way to the Mouth of Truth, it’s worth to pass by and see it.

Piazza della Bocca della Verit. Near the Tiber embankment, on the territory of the ancient Foro Boario (Bull), behind the fence you can see a nineteen-columned marble structure - Tempio di Ercole Vincitore o Ercole Oleario (Temple of Hercules the Invincible or Olivet). Historical facts say that it was built at the end of the 2nd century BC. on behalf of the wealthy olive oil merchant Marcus Octavius Gerenius, possibly by the architect Hermodorus of Salamis. The Rotondo Temple was preserved by a happy coincidence; in 1132 it was converted into the Christian church Santo Stefano alle Carozze. In the 17th century, the church was reconsecrated as Santa Maria del Sole. It is noteworthy that half of the publications about this object are on the Tempio di Vesta page, which is located on the territory of the Forum. Nearby you can also see the Tempio di Portuno, Fountain of the Tritons, and a little to the left, the famous Bocca della Verita.☝️

The Temple of Hercules Victor is a beautiful, ancient round temple in the Forum Boarium. Nearby is the Temple of Portunus, the Arch of Janus. and the churches of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and San Giorgio in Velabro. An area well worth seeing.

Temple of Hercules Victor is dedicated to the guardian of the olive and oil traders. The temple was built around 140-120 B.C.E. and is so-called round peripteros with a diameter of 17 m, on a low podium, surrounded by 20 Corinthian columns , supporting the dome destroyed in the Middle Ages. It resembles the temple of Vesta at the Roman Forum. The initiative to build the temple is attributed to Scipio Aemilianus and Lucius Mummius. Inside the temple there was a pedestal with a statue of a deity. In the Middle Ages it was converted into a church. Really very beautiful, both the temple and the entire area. Definitely worth visiting.

I am going to basically copy and paste my review for all of the sites I visited in this area as I feel going is here is like another forum area with lots of sites.

This area including not just this temple but the Tempio di Portuno, Chiesa di San Giorgio Al Velabro, Bocca Della Verita, Arch of Janus, Canons Regular of the Holy Cross, Ponte Palatino, Ponte Emilio o Pone Roto, and map more. It is worth planning your trip to this area and walking around for one or two hours to see everything. In my opinion, this is a forgotten area of Rome that is full of historical significance.
