The area

Address
Neighborhood: Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.

We queued for over an hour, some idiots spend five minutes messing about with videos and having three or four looks. Remember there is a queue, we all want to look before sunset. Thank you.

It is difficult to get a approach video that then focuses in to to the dome.

The pictures are awesome

Such a hidden gem

Make sure you walk back and go into the gardens for the optical illusion from the garden edge.

As you walk backwards from the edge, the dome grows and comes towards you.

The Orange tree garden is perched at the top of the Aventine hill. Also known as parko sevalo. If you were to ever have it be empty at sunset it would be an incredibly romantic evening. However the secret is out and it is a great spot for taking pictures at sunset and viewing the old city of Rome.

Very well-kept garden, with trees and benches that invite you to relax, at the end of which there is a beautiful panoramic terrace with a priceless view of the eternal city. Better known as the Orange Garden, it is located on the Aventine Hill with the main entrance next to the fountain of the Mask of Santa Sabina. The view of many of the attractions that make Rome famous in the world and the peace of the place make it an unmissable stop in the city.

At the top of the Aventino Hill, next to the Church of Santa Sabina, is the Giardino degli Aranci (Garden of Oranges). The best way to get here is to walk up the Clivio dei Publici from the Via del Circo Massimo onto Via di Santa Sabina. The entrance to the garden is next to the church where there is also a large Roman tub and water fountain that resembles the Bocca della Verita in the Church of Santa Maria di Cosmedin. Romans use this garden regularly for picnics in the spring and summer when the aroma of the orange trees is magnificent. The garden also provides a superb vista of Rome from the river to the Victor Emmanuel monument. Best time to go is early in the morning as the sun hits the domes in the city or in the evening to watch the sunset. It is a favorite spot for wedding photos and romantic encounters. Since it is also a place where the homeless tend to congregate in the evening, it is probably not safe to go in at night.

It's the park in Aventine that has been named the most romantic garden in Rome. Here is where you can get a beautiful view of Rome over the Tiber River, and take in the lovely fragrance of oranges. It's were the locals go to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset. The church of Santa Sabina is also a great place to visit as the sunlight (or moonlight) appears through its windows. Don't miss walking through this beautiful garden. It's the perfect ending to any tour of the highlights of Rome.

I've lived in Rome for 5 years and this is one of my favorite places. It is a perfect getaway from the crowd and the heat (and trust me you'll find both in Rome), and still you are not even 2km out of the city centre where all the attractions are. You can rest on the grass or sit on a stone bench enjoying the shade of high stone pines and orange trees. There is an amazing and very romantic view of the St Peter's Church from the terrace that is so well designed that even people who suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights) can step on it and admire the the city from above. It is not the highest viewpoint but is the safest. If you start panicking you are just 5 steps from the solid ground, in the park and there is a fountain where you can drink from, you can see the children happily running around, people lying on the green grass, reading books or making sketches, eating their snacks...... Since it is very small park it is very secure, not like Villa Borghese where someone can steal your things or assault you, especially if you are a girl and on your own. Never heard any ugly story about this place, just that those oranges taste horrible.

This is a lovely park and you can take in a lot of sights on the way to and from this park. You also get a great view of St paul's from the park. Great place to take photo's which was evidenced by the four brides and grooms that were getting their pictures taken there

One of the loveliest views in Rome, famously so, is from the belvedere at the end of the avenue of orange trees. Lots of newlyweds come here for their wedding photos. A terrific picnic spot. There's a chestnut seller here on cooler evenings. The through-the-keyhole view across Rome to the Vatican through the garden of the Knights of Malta is just down the street. If you're visiting the Circus Maximus, it's not a long or hard walk up and in spring you can enjoy the display in the city rose-garden on the way.

If you're a photographer, you have to stop by Parco Savello. The park boasts sweeping, unobstructed views of the city, where you can see the river, St. Peter's and much of the historic heart of the city. The park contains an orange grove with gravel paths and free-flowing water fountains. It's gorgeous and picturesque and one of my favorite spots in Rome.

Il giardino degli aranci is a great place where to spend some time relaxing by yourself or with friends, especially during spring.
The most important fact about it is the view. There's a terrace from where you have a great view of the Trasteverre and the surroundings.
