I have been to Rome on previous occasions by most recently I went to Rome specifically to see the EUR area. It did not disappoint and is a beautiful ensemble of buildings and streets that comprises a fully-functioning area. At the centre is a large and beautiful lake, with a stunning tall, slim glass-clad office tower from the 1950s. However, this was only the start and by walking further into the area one is able to really appreciate the monumentality of matters, both in terms of individual building details, but also their layout relative to one another which creates breath-taking vistas.
The area was inspired overall by less-than pleasant political ideas which I of course do not defend, but the result of these ideas was an amazing urban built environment which is both in marked contrast to more traditional Rome, but also oddly complementary. While the area is vibrant and therefore very busy, there are significant corners of it that are very green, quiet and bucolic, which again is often a contrast to traditional Rome.
In my view an under-appreciated gem with a standard of built-environment that most UK cities can only dream of.

well the thinking in Europe during world war II must have really been strange with the architecture, or lack there of, of the buildings. even the spacing and proximity is strange. after youv'e seen the big ones, take time to see this and you will know why america won the war
