We booked the train through our Holland America ship and I am so glad we did. The cost was 100 Euro for the two of us but, well worth the price. We were met by a guide at the ship who got us aboard a bus to the train station. Once there he took us to the station platform where the train was waiting. We had about 50 people and there was more than adequate comfortable seating on leather seats. During the trip into St. Peters the guide gave us some great information about Rome and then answered questions. The trip only took about 50 minutes and was a very comfortable ride. We gathered around the guide at the station and he lead us through the back streets to St. Peter's Square. He then showed us where to get the "skip the line tickets" for the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. We met back at the station at the end of a full day and re-boarded the train for the ride back to the ship. If you are planning to go into Rome I recommend the train rather than public transportation. For a little more it is so worth not having the hassle or dealing with traffic.…

Booked the Roma Express from Civitavecchia to Rome St Peters Station. Taken to station by shuttle bus from port, had to negotiate a lot of steps to get to platform. We boarded the train which had red leather seats and after travelling through the countryside we arrived in Rome about 9.30 approx. 1 hour journey. About 4.30 we got the same train back. If you go on this train although the journey was good you need to be aware you are about a 15-20 minute walk from the Vatican, and the pavements can be uneven and some inclines, so if you have any knee/leg problems be careful. It could be a problem if you use a wheelchair, therefore would not recommend for wheelchair users. There are washroom facilities onboard.…

Royal Caribbean recommended the Roma Express express train ride from the port to the city of Rome. A pure delight. The bright red leather seats let you know instantly after you've boarded you're in for a treat. The staff was friendly and the train cold during the heat of the summer. After you arrive in Rome (in about 2 hours), it's a short walk to St. Peter's Square. In fact, we saw dozens of sites during our walk. Wear comfortable shoes so you don't miss anything. We're so glad we chose this way to travel to Rome. It was way better than the bus system in Florence to get to the Tower of Pisa.…
