My wife and I traveled to Italy last May and our friends had recommended doing a tour with Alex Mariotti. We got a hold of Alex when we landed in Rome and finalized our tour plans. It was by far one of the highlights of our trip. Not only did we hit some of the big "touristy" spots, but Alex knows the city and the history so well that we learned and saw so many incredible details.

If you're planning a trip to Rome and considering just getting a tour off the street or through another tour company, I highly recommend going with Alex. You won't be disappointed!!! I'm still telling stories about everything we learned.

Me and my partner were about to queue up for the Colloseum when we were approached by a young man who asked us if we would like to join a guided tour, we said yes and were able to skip the queue and go straight inside. The tour guide was a woman who seemed to be just 'going through the motions' and towards the end we were getting quite bored. Thankfully we decided to stay on and go to the Roman Forum guided tour where Jonathan came along! He were an excellent tour guide, he kept us entertained, made the stories interesting and made us laugh. He also gave us tips on where to eat, drink and good places to visit. It was very clear that Jonathan had a real passion for Rome and this really shown. We enjoyed Jonathan's tour so much we emailed to see if he was doing any Vatican City tours, luckily he was doing one 3 days later! The Vatican City tour was just as brilliant, really enjoyed him telling us all about the history.

Thank you to Jonathan for making our trip that extra bit special!

Would really reccomed him to anyone!

Our family toured Rome in July 2011 and went on a Colosseum tour where the tour guide was informative but not at all inspiring. Fortunately our tour also included a Palatine component and this was where we met Jonathon as a tour guide. He was articulate, informative and very funny as he expertly managed a huge group of people wandering through this area. He gave us great tips on what else to do in Rome, where to eat and couldn't do enough for us. Given this great experience, we organised to do another tour with him of some of the not so well known places in Rome and it was fantastic- we ended up seeing great places that we would never have seen by ourselves. His local knowledge is fantastic and our four teenagers were never bored for a second. Cannot recommend Jonathon highly enough!

By far the best tour we had was the Secrets of Rome tour by Alex- he was the best! We met him from a tour at the Colosseum and told us about the secrets tour. It was so cool to see things you would never normally be able to touch and see. I won't ruin it but he showed us some famous tombs, some amazing sculptures and even where to get the best espresso in the city! It was great. If you only have time for one tour- go on this one!

Thanks again Alex! Come to New York City sometime and we'll give you a tour too! :)

Alex Mariotti was an amazing tour guide, very knowledgable, and his unique approach kept the tour interesting from start to finish. He took the time to after to tell my girlfriend and I about a secluded island paradise called Ponza he had just visited. Then went as far as emailing me a trip plan including train times, ferry times, and even booked the hotel and dinner reservations for us!! No possibility I ever would've known that place existed without Alex, and it truly was one of the most beautiful places I ever seen. His attention to detail, willingness to go above and beyond, and obvious great taste put him in a class of his own. So my applause to Dolce Vita Rome, and Alex Mariotti, for makin our trip truly memorable!!! Thanks again man!!

Alex knows all the hidden secrets; you will not forget this tour. It's been 3 years since we did his tour and I can still recall so much of what we saw and what Alex said about the places he showed us, a testament to how enjoyable the evening was for us. We are back on this site looking to see if he leads any other tours, we would sign up!

I've traveled through 27 countries, across 5 continents which means I've listened to A LOT of tour guides. No one can compare to this experience.

I literally stumbled onto Alex's tour at the Forum as I missed the one I'd paid for (I wasn't aware the clocks had changed) and he was gracious to include me. With actual artifacts that he passed around for everyone to examine, he brought to life the people and lifestyle of the early Romans.

I immediately booked another of his tours for the next day,The Mysteries of Rome. Again the tour exceeded my expectations. It's obvious that Alex is not your run-of-the-mill tour guide. He is passionate about his topic and has a depth of knowledge that goes beyond the surface of the building or sculpture he is showing you. He shares his information through stories supported by facts and creates pictures for the mind's eye. There is no better way to learn about history!

We recently took a two week trip of a lifetime with three other couples. On our first full day in Rome we met Alex for a mystery tour of the city. Within the first five minutes he walked us through the tunnel and arches where Julius Caesar met his demise at Pompey's Theater. What a way to begin and for the next 8 hours he amazed us with stories, historical knowledge and insight into some of Rome's hidden mysteries. So began our two week adventure which started on a High Note and continued to get better and better. Alex Mariotti, at Dolce Vita Rome receives 8 thumbs up and is highly recommended as one of the best tour guides we have ever expieienced.

We booked on a tour of the coloseum and roman forum. We met Alex on the second part of the tour and were immediately inspired by his enthusiasm and knowledge of Rome. he was very personable and gave lots of interesting facts as well as using his ipad to show us how places might have looked in the past. We decided to join him on a dusk tour of 'hidden' Rome. First he showed us where to get cheap pizza and then showed us a fascinating side of Rome that I know we wouldn't have seen otherwise. We saw catacombs and where Michaelangelo's body was originally kept before being moved to Florence as well as beautiful churches and a Michaelangelo statue. It was great to see so much beautiful art in churches that aren't mentioned in guidebooks and was refreshing to divert from the well-trodden tourist track. I know we wouldn't have got half as much out of our trip without our tours with Alex and although I generally prefer to wander around without a guide, in this case I would reccommend it highly. The group was small and friendly and we ended up in a lovely piazza where Alex told us some great value places to eat.
