My wife and I had the pleasure of a private tour with Marisa the last week in June. We chose Marisa because of her background -- Roman native, University of Rome educated, archeologist. What better perspective for a tour of historic Rome. We were not disappointed. Communicating with Marisa was simple. She was communicative, responsive, provided great directions and arranged... I can't say enough about the time spent with Marissa, a PHD Archaeologist with field experience, showing my 2 daughters and I as many archeological sites as we could walk and the Vatican museums in a day and a half. I have participated in both private and group tours and thought I knew many facts, but Marissa opened up so... More

As first time visitors to Rome with only 1 day to take in the sights we thought that we would organise a private tour and so began our search for a tour guide. Marisa came highly recommended by a close friend of ours who had raved about her day out with Marisa in Rome. We were not disappointed! Marisa is... More

Dear Desiree, many thanks for the review! Our day together was intense but I've really enjoyed escorting you in my city. You're patient and interested, and never get tired of my voice (and in a long tour as our...is a big victory for a guide!). Come back soon for a slow-pace visit :) Marisa More

My boyfriend and I toured the Colosseum, Palentine Hill, and Forum with Marisa. Her knowledge and passion was evident throughout our time and we loved being able to see these wonders through her eyes. They came alive in a way that we wouldn't have been able to experience with a big group or on our own. Grazie Mille, Marisa! It... More

I was hesitant to get a guide: can be prohibitively expensive, and with a 6 year old, why wager on it? But Marisa was more reasonable than the others and it was worth EVERY cent. We decided to just do the forum and it was our best experience of our trip. Marisa could read every inscription of the vestal virgins... More

If you are looking for an interesting, knowledgeable, accommodating and personable guide in Rome, Marisa Ficorella fills the bill. My husband and I went on three days of tours with Marisa earlier this month and we were very impressed. Marisa will be at the top of our list to recommend to any of our friends travelling to Rome.

We visited to The Roman Ruins with Marisa was an archeologist. This unique knowledge helped us better understand our excursion. We also visited the Sistine Chapel (the no-line tickets) were terrific as it rained terribly that day. We also visited the coliseum. Just an excellent guide.

As an experienced user of private guides, I can be very very picky. Well, I picked a winner this time. Marissa is knowledgeable, friendly, has a great sense of humor, and was worth every penny we spent on her services. We used her for two 5 hour tours, and were very happy we did. You will be, too.

Staying in Piazza Venezia / Ancient City

Neighborhood Profile
Piazza Venezia / Ancient City
If all roads lead to Rome, then they all end here. Piazza Venezia and the Ancient City are the very epicenter of the Eternal City. Within a 360-degree turn, Roman history unrolls in front of you, from its ancient beginnings to its 21st century transformations. Whether it’s those historical playgrounds known as the Roman and Imperial Forums, or the side-street shops, trattorie, and churches, this neighborhood packs a cultural punch and then some. Screaming scooters, battling buses, crazy cars, and lots of foot traffic converge in the area all day long. By dusk, a different vibe emerges as the neighborhood quiets down. Don't be surprised if you find yourself passing through the Piazza Venezia at least once a day, since it’s the most direct way to get from one side of town to another.
