Address
Neighborhood: Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.

Very cute market. Closer to Coliseum. We finished the tour and walked to the market for a glass of wine and lunch. Must try place if you are around the area!

Mercato di Campagna Amica is Rome's largest farmers market, although only open on weekends, and it is a stones throw from Circus Maximus. Everything is really local, as products are made or grown within 100 kilometers from the point of sale. The market offers fresh produce, fruit, cured meats, an ensemble of cheese, organic wine and craft beer. I constructed a DIY sandwich, that shouted Italian, with some of that fine Italian bread, leafy greens, pecorino (sheep cheese), some prosciutto and other cure meats all washed down with a homemade fruit-veggie drink.

This was rock-and-roll for my mouth...... bellissimo

Weekend farmers market we noticed on the way to the metro from our hotel, great fresh produce. Picked up some bread, beer and calzone. Stayed for a couple of beers out the back and we enjoyed some fried chicken and bacon rolls, all reasonably priced. Well worth a visit

Excellent farmers market - with a very friendly atmosphere- lots to eat and drink whilst there as well as to buy. The quality of the food was excellent. Beers were good and wine cheap!

We stumbled across this local farmers’ market which is right next door to the Circus Maximus but still feels off the beaten track.
The best thing about it is that it’s all local Lazio produce. Set up to promote local, sustainable agriculture, the market has a ‘0 km’ philosophy and only sells products made or grown within 100km.
You will find DOC wines and extra virgin olive oil, local pecorino (sheep’s cheese), fresh fruit and veg, dried legumes, honey, seafood and cured meats.
We wandered through the meats and cheeses sections, intrigued by the roasted pigs heads, and stopped to look at the stalls piled high with prosciuttos and salamis and other less familiar cured meats like lonza, guanciale and coppiette.
We were there around lunch time so bought giant porchetta rolls (4€), stuffed full of juicy pork shoulder with garlic and fennel, crispy bits of skin and just enough salty, fattiness to make it absolutely delicious. I've included a photo below of the porchetta stall.
There were a a couple of things here that we missed out on. We didn’t realise that there was a garden area out the back where we could have sat with our porchetta rolls. This would have been good to know beforehand. We also didn’t realise how close we were the famous Bocca della Verita (Mouth of Truth) so we missed seeing that. It's only a couple of minutes away so make sure not to miss it.
HOURS: Be aware that the market is only open on Saturday & Sunday, from 8am-3pm.

A lively “zero kilometer” market, situated behind the Mouth of Truth (Bocca della Verita) and at one end of the Circus Maximus, with some excellent local foods and produce -- fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, wine, etc. You can get sandwiches and other simple fixings here, there is a garden with a bit of a view of the Arch of Janus, where you can eat. We bought lunch there, two sausages with a little bread and salad, meat on skewers, tomato bruschetta, and two bottles of water for 17 euros.

Super Market-local market-lots of things. Near the historical center it’s almost nothing to buy to a market! This is near the center, behind the capital hill. You can find bio vegetables and fruits! Beware it operates only on weekends, 08:00-15:00

Great place to visit when open. So much local food and free samples. Do youself a favour and buy a pork roll on a fresh roll for 3.50 Euro and you will not regret it.

We went here for a grab to eat and was not disappointed. The local italians shop here and eat lunch in the garden/square in the back. This was a nice and not touristed place to visit. Grab a beer, some wine, a classical italian dish and enjoy some authentic local culture.

We like to visit farmers food market where everything is locally produced and super fresh.
This mercato is off the tourist beaten track, and is located just behind Bocca della Verita', in Via San Teodoro: we saw way more locals, and very few tourists.
It is a feast for your eyes, overwhelming with fresh fruits and vegetables, butchers products, dairy, honey, olive oil, jams, cookies, prosciutto, flowers and plants and some ready to eat. You name it!
There are plenty of goodies to be found.
Amazing pork sandwiches, and black and white truffle products.
It was very pleasant to watch the differrent stalls and how the merchants warmly communicate with their loyal customers.
If or when you're done with your shopping, on the back of the building there are some prepared food options and plenty of tables in the shade out back. There is also a wine and beer.
It was a great authentic experience.
This market is only open twice a week (Saturday and Sundays)
