The area
Neighborhood: Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
How to get there
  • Circo Massimo • 9 min walk
  • Fori Imperiali-Colosseo • 9 min walk

Super Market-local market-lots of things. Near the historical center it’s almost nothing to buy to a market! This is near the center, behind the capital hill. You can find bio vegetables and fruits! Beware it operates only on weekends, 08:00-15:00

Great place to visit when open. So much local food and free samples. Do youself a favour and buy a pork roll on a fresh roll for 3.50 Euro and you will not regret it.

Great produce and kind people

We went here for a grab to eat and was not disappointed. The local italians shop here and eat lunch in the garden/square in the back. This was a nice and not touristed place to visit. Grab a beer, some wine, a classical italian dish and enjoy some authentic local culture.

Lovely experience

We like to visit farmers food market where everything is locally produced and super fresh.
This mercato is off the tourist beaten track, and is located just behind Bocca della Verita', in Via San Teodoro: we saw way more locals, and very few tourists.
It is a feast for your eyes, overwhelming with fresh fruits and vegetables, butchers products, dairy, honey, olive oil, jams, cookies, prosciutto, flowers and plants and some ready to eat. You name it!
There are plenty of goodies to be found.
Amazing pork sandwiches, and black and white truffle products.
It was very pleasant to watch the differrent stalls and how the merchants warmly communicate with their loyal customers.
If or when you're done with your shopping, on the back of the building there are some prepared food options and plenty of tables in the shade out back. There is also a wine and beer.
It was a great authentic experience.
This market is only open twice a week (Saturday and Sundays)

Fabulous ingredients

Excellent market with every food stall - meat, cheese, bread as usual plus stall exclusively for mushrooms, another for pulses etc. Very busy and you need to be prepared to wait. There is also a small courtyard with food trucks and a kitchen just inside the market preparing fresh meals - you can see through the window. Great fun way to shop.

Colorful Market
Apr 2019 • Couples
This is a market with a Roman Arch as a backdrop.

The market features agricultural products from Campagna. It was very colorful, with a wide variety of meats, cheese, fruits, vegetables, oils, vinegar, pasta, pastries and wine from the region.

Roman Farmer's Market and Food Spot

Amazing cheese, bread, meats, nuts, and fresh fruit and vegetables from local farms. Take a look around in the main building, but the best part is to go out through the back of the building and eat at the outdoor area where they have fresh excellent pasta, barbecue, and sandwiches served in a food truck style with folding tables and chairs to sit on.

Lunch is inexpensive and fun
Apr 2019 • Family
Small, well kept market with loads of local and organic foods.
Best thing is the lunch to be chosen from a few small grills or the agriturismo kitchen with a sagra-feeling

A wonderful "secret" market-place !! ONLY open Saturedays and Sundays.

One has to know this faboluous marketplace is there, to get there, as it´s easy to pass it without noticing. This is an original marketplace where Italians buy fish, vegetables, meat, cheeses, cakes, wine, grappa, marmelade, honey, flowers and handmade stuff like baskets and lots of other delicious things. All brought in and sold directly by the farmers, who will guide You and maybe allow You to taste before buying. Low and fair prices! You can also get a Porchetta or Prosciutto sandwich and emjoy it in the georgious backyard where they also sell water in bottles to go with it and an espresso for just 1 euro!

Good way to spent Saturday
Jan 2019
The market works only on Saturdays and i was afraid it would be very crowded but we found clean and very quiet place with many tasty things: pasta, bread, pastries, cheese. And most of them you can taste. Just have some cash and bring some goodies home.
