What a great experience! Silvia brought us on a tour of The Palatine Hill and then through the Forum last Friday. She brought Ancient Rome alive for us and pitched her tour exactly right - a perfect mix of information and insight. Every one in our small Group of four felt enriched by the visit and would highly recommend Silvia and her company.

Tiziana, our guide in the Vatican museums, was great: knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to explain everything to my wife and wife (and then for us to translate to my parents). She showed the highlights of those huge museums with ease and gusto. Highly recommended.

We booked two tours with A Friend in Rome and could not have been happier with the whole experience. The first was a three hour walking tour with Tiziana, and the second was a full-day ancient Rome tour with Silvia, who owns the company. Everything was extremely professional and well-organized. Silvia was great with email communication and made everything very easy, including buying tickets for sites like the Colosseum and San Clemente. Both Tiziana and Silvia were personable and highly knowledgeable about history, art, architecture, and culture. They designed tours that suited our interests and were happy to make adjustments on the spot as needed. The weather was very hot, but the time flew by. Silvia and Tiziana kept their energy up the entire time. (How, I don't know!) And our teenagers were just as happy with the tours as their middle-aged parents.

Private tours may seem expensive compared with group tours, but A Friend in Rome is worth every Euro. We saw all kinds of things that we would never have found on our own, and learned more than I would have imagined. I will be definitely be signing up for another tour on our next trip to Rome. Thank you, Silvia and Tiziana!

Thanks you so much for appreciating our tours! It is really rewarding to get a feedback like yours. We do our best to keep the obstacle at minimum impact, including the heat and the bureaucracy behind every ticket purchase. And thanks for appreciating the personalised approach, it is really our priority all the time and your family was so curious and interested that made our job very peasant ! See you ext time! Silvia

We highly recommend Silvia at A Friend in Rome. We took 4 tours in late February 2020 over 3 days, going to sites not as well known as the popular tourist sites that we saw on a previous trip. All tours were excellent, and we learned so much from Silvia that we would never have known trying to explore Rome on on our own. We went to the WWII tour visiting the Liberation museum and then rode by cab to the Fosse Ardeatine Memorial. Silvia had so much information to provide and helped us understand what Rome went through during the war. We also did the Alternative Christian Rome tour which was all within walking distance from our hotel, and then took metro to a pizzeria in Pigneto. Silvia was so informative at the metro train station, which in itself was a tour on it's own. We had no idea all the historical information on the walls at the metro station and that it had a museum on one floor. We took the pizza making class which was a lot of fun. We were there with the owner at his restaurant that is not open during lunch. It was only the two of us and Silvia, and we were able to make our own pizzas and have a nice lunch. After cancelling going to Venice due to the pandemic, we spent another day going by metro to Ancient Ostia which was about a 20 minute ride from Rome. We highly recommend this tour. After spending the entire day before in Naples and Pompeii leaving by train in Rome at 7:30 am and getting back to Rome after 7:30 pm, Ancient Ostia offers the same type of ruins just a short ride from Rome. I would highly recommend this tour, especially with children, since it is easy to reach and not a long day trip. We had never heard of Ancient Ostia before and so glad we were able to go there with Silvia. We can't wait to return to Rome and we will definately be booking other tours with A Friend In Rome when we return.

Linda, the 3 days spent with you and your husband just before the pandemic locked us in was a sweet memory during the weeks home! And your words now - while we are in the second wave waiting for vaccinations to make effect - are really warming me up! It was such a pleasure to arrange these special tours for you: the WW2 itinerary, the pizza class with Marco, the Alternative Christian Rome, ancient Ostia... these are some of my favorite tours and I hope I will be welcoming you again in the future to offer some more unusual ideas, as we collected so many in the last months of inactivity! So... see you soon! And let me know if you made the pizza in your own oven as planned and how it went! Silvia

My wife and I used A Friend In Rome back in 2013 when we went to Rome as a couple, without kids (our first trip). The experience was excellent, so when we returned in 2022 with the kids (aged 8, 11, 13 at the time) we knew that we would be contacting Silvia again.

We arranged 3 half-day tours on consecutive days, focusing on different themes. Day 1 was the 'gelato tour', a child-friendly general sightseeing tour of the Centro Storico with (of course) several stops for gelato and some games and to keep the kids interested. Day 2 was the 'gladiators & games' tour, focusing on the Roman baths at Caracalla, the Circus Maximus, and of course The Colosseum. Finally, on day 3 we focused on 'underground Rome'.

Silvia was our guide for each of these days. She ensured that the kids could build on what they had learned from one day to the next, that they were always kept interested, and that there were enough stops for gelato/pizza al taglio/caffe to keep everybody well fuelled and never too tired or cranky.

After 3 days, we left Rome having had a lot of fun, learned a lot, and enhanced our love for the Eternal City. We will be back. And we will be using Silvia as our guide to deepen our knowledge of this amazing city.

We did two tours with A Friend in Rome, one with Silvia and one with Luciana. Silvia was amazing and incredibly responsive in the planning phase. She helped us plan our trip via email in advance, advised us on how to get tickets in time and avoid queues, and tailored to tours to our needs and the background knowledge we already had about Rome. She showed us bits of Ancient Rome and its history, Renaissance Rome, 20th century Rome and contemporary Rome. Luciana took us to the Vatican on a separate tour, we greatly appreciated all of her knowledge about the museums and grounds. The Vatican museums are 100% more enjoyable and worth it with a guide. Me and my partner had a great time and can definitely recommend A Friend in Rome.

Grazie Simona! We give a lot of importance to the planning phase and we love when this is appreciated, when we manage to tailor the tours on your wishes and personality! The fact that you chose a bike tour was a plus, as we love these tours that give us even more freedom to explore and play by the ear. We wait for you again in Rome! Silvia

Look no further! A Friend in Rome is the absolute best way to see Rome. Silvia made our trip unforgettable. Her expert guidance through amazing sites and her detailed descriptions of the historical importance of each made it feel as though we were living through the ultimate storybook. We did a walking tour around the city (seeing too many sites to list), the Colosseum, the Vatican and museum, a local market food tasting, and a wine tasting tour just outside the city. Each excursion built upon the other and was done with the excitement as though your best friend was showing off their city. Silvia, thanks for making our trip absolutely incredible!

Silvia was amazing as our tour guide. We had three tours with her throughout our 10-day stay in Rome/Italy and should have scheduled her for additional tours where we used other locally advertised services. Her knowledge of the city inside and outside the walls was incredible and it was great to have someone put into context all of the history of the amazing architecture, artwork, sculptures, and monuments. She was able to quickly adapt sites to what we described as our interest areas and she was flexible in adjusting the schedule to make it more meaningful for our family. I would highly recommend A Friend in Rome and Silvia as a tour guide. Until we return, Ciao!

Grazie mille! Spending time with your family was such a pleasure and we love when we have the opportunity to go beyond the walls and off-the-beaten- path. See you again and all the best! Silvia

Silvia is very attentive and responded almost instantly to questions. Nicole was a fabulous guide. If budget allows A Friend in Rome is totally worth it. The Vatican museums are overwhelming, so it was useful to have someone guiding us physically as well as verbally. Nicole was certainly well informed.

Thank you for appreciating the responsiveness, we do the best we can! And I agree with you: Nicole is fabulous and a precious companion in such a huge crowded and confusing place like the Vatican Museums. Silvia

We visited Rome this January and went on two tours with a Friend in Rome, one to the Vatican and one to the Colosseum- both were amazing and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to get the most from their holiday. Silvia provides a great deal of help with booking and makes it very simple. On the day, we zoomed past all of the queues and glided straight into the heart of each place. The tours were knowledgeable and fun, and totally tailor made for our group. Our age range was from 9-50, and there wasn’t a single question our guide couldn’t answer, and we moved easily from a full on history of the Roman Empire to where to get the best hot chocolate!
