Top ways to experience Piazza di Trevi and nearby attractions

The area
Neighborhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighborhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

Piazza di Trevi is all about the Trevi Fountain, easily acclaimed as the world's most famous fountain. No disrespect to the piazza, but this is a classic example whereby visitors will not notice what else is in the piazza other than its centerpiece attraction. Tourists who throng the area only have one mission in mind - snake their way through the crowds to the fountain for a selfie or to perform the ritual of throwing a coin while making a wish. Perpetually crowded during the day time, this place is a haven for pickpockets. Your best bet for a peaceful respite here is during the early hours of the morning.

You'll barely notice the piazza itself because 1) your eyes are inevitably drawn to the marvellous fountain, and 2) because of the number of people occupying it.

The fountain is magnificent, but the piazza is nothing special.

Why TA have separate listings for the square and the fountain? Beats me.

The area is very busy as you can expect. As busy as it gets. At the same time, the surroundings have everything you need in terms of souvenirs and gelato, restaurants, among others.

Of course, and it goes without saying, you will always need to be careful with your belongings when you are around such busy areas.

This is a small public space just in front of the landmark Trevi Fountain in the heart of Rome. In addition to seeing the remarkably beautiful fountain, there are Baroque churches in the area, lots of gelato shops, casual "touristy" restaurants and retail shops and as should be expected, quite heavy crowds much of the day. Pass by first thing in the morning for more leisurely visits and consider a night visit as well to see the fountain against dark sky, lit up with floodlights.

Great if you go weekday, you will be able to get right to the fountain and truly enjoy it from afar too.

Friday - Sunday the fountain is so busy that you will struggle to get to the fountain or be able to see much.

There are plenty of options for food and gelato nearby too.

If you need a toilet, there is a clean option in the pizzeria to the left of the fountain.

This piazza is very busy and crowded. However, the centerpiece is the beautiful Trevi fountain. You really do not notice the restaurants and shops nearby. It's great to see open outdoor dining for great people watching as you walk away from the fountain.

One of the most beautiful fountains and Squares in Rome. A very popular place to take photos and often crowded but clean with a pleasurable atmosphere. Beautiful in the evening with the fountain and water lit up. .

We stumbled across the fountain at around 9am on our first full day.
It was empty, bar one man cleaning it.
We were so underwhelmed that we didn't realise where we were. Later the same day we returned (a planned visit) and it was heaving with people.

Very busy and crowded square at any time of day. But the centerpiece is the amazingly beautiful fountain. Lots of tacky tourists shops and eateries nearby. It's good that there are lots of seats on the exterior of the fountain that you can sit and people watch.

If you wish to see the Trevi fountain then you need to visit this location at Piazza di Trevi. The location is very popular, lots of stores, restaurants, icecream shops. This area is filled with lots of tourist esp. those on the younger side, many just chilling out.my time was spent here having an icecream at the fountain and just enjoying the ambience.
A definite must-visit.
