Neighborhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighborhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

A must visit in Rome! We went around 6pm one evening and it was super busy with a big queue to get pictures, however seeing it lit up at night was gorgeous and Deffinitely worth facing the crowds. We went round the corner to the roof top bar opposite trevi bar, this was a little overpriced but for the view, worth every penny. A great way to soak in all that is the trevi fountain! We re-visited around 8:30/9am the following day and the place was dead! We didn’t need to queue at all and got straight down the bottom for photos with nobody else in! Everyone was lovely down there, taking each other’s photos etc. we went for a little walk and then came back to look at the fountain some more, by 10am the area was rammed again so I Deffinitely recommend going early!

This is a truly remarkable work of art. It is a splendor to see and enjoy. However, due to the popularity of it and tons of people just trying to take a picture for their social media posts, they detract from one’s enjoyment of the beauty in front of you In my opinion, the crowds diminish the entire experience. It is best viewed late at night if you’re able to see it lit up without many people around. Definitely worth seeing but try and see it without crowds! I went during the day with large crowds and at night when not many were there, and each experience was different. Definitely a must see. And lastly, when the crowds are there, you will be jowled and you’re definitely gonna feel peoples hands trying to get into your pockets !

The Trevi Fountain is absolutely stunning and a must-visit in Rome! Its intricate design and flowing water create a magical atmosphere. However, during the day, it gets extremely crowded, making it hard to fully enjoy. If you want to experience its beauty in peace, go early in the morning—before 8 AM, you’ll have it almost to yourself. Totally worth the visit!

Not what I expected. The fountain is quite pretty but unless you get there early or late you will struggle to appreciate it due to the crowds. This area is filled with people trying to sell you beads, cheap toys or fake paintings which they prop to look as though they have painted them themselves. Watch the bead vendors, if they get a bracelet on your arm they will then demand payment despite them telling you its free gift. Rome was a big dissapointmet full of people trying to sell you goods you didn't want, to women begging on the streets with their children. We stayed three days and were nearly mugged on the tube and saw nemerous tourists upset after being mugged. Watch out if on the tube and someone attempts to get on last minute being stuck between the doors. This is to put you off guard so you try and help them, they then take your wallet or phone and pull back as the train leaves them on the platform you without your wallett

A diamond nestled in the streets of Rome. The Trevi fountain does not disappoint, you can hear the water before you see the fountain. The sight is something you’ll never forget as you turn a corner and see it emerge from behind the surrounding buildings. This was top of my sites to visit when in Rome and it did not disappoint in the slightest. With clear waters, crowd management closer to the fountain and the breathtaking architecture and sculptures, do not miss this off your visit. (Advise, if you’re looking for a non crowded time visit early in the mornings. Also worth noting that Mondays until noon the fountain is cleaned).

The Trevi Fountain is a beautiful, iconic spot in Rome that you can easily pass by multiple times while exploring nearby attractions—it’s truly hard to miss! The fountain is free to visit, but be prepared for crowds at nearly any time of day (which we also encountered). For those looking for a unique photo perspective, there’s a shop across from the fountain where you can go up to the first floor and take photos from above, giving a great view without the crowds. If you plan to visit on a Monday morning, note that the fountain is usually drained for cleaning. We also heard that it may be closed at times for restoration in preparation for the Jubilee year, so checking the news or local updates can be helpful to avoid any surprises. Overall, the Trevi Fountain is a must-see for its beauty and vibrant atmosphere—it truly captures the magic of Rome! P.S. And don’t forget the tradition: toss a coin (or two…or three) into the fountain to ensure you’ll one day return to Rome!

Unexpectedly stumbled across the fountain whilst walking around the city at about 1 in the afternoon. Of course, at this time of day it was very busy with people, we took some photos from outside the barrier but then thought the queue to get close to the fountain was going quickly so got in line. Contrary to what we’d read online this queue only lasted around 10 minutes which was amazing. If you queue up in the day you’re more likely to get a good photo but if you walk past in the evening you can still get a pretty good photo without queuing.

Without a doubt it is one of the most spectacular works of art you can find in Rome..... Walking through the streets of the city and suddenly encountering this beauty is spectacular... It is one of the places with the greatest influx of people, so it is advisable to either get up early to see it more comfortably and with fewer people to be able to take photos or stay up late to admire its illuminated beauty.... A good time is 07:00am to go see it as it is less crowded.... Don't expect to take a photo next to the water at 2pm because it is impossible with the amount of people that accumulate there... It is very important to be careful with pickpockets and be aware of your belongings at all times. On Mondays they usually do cleaning in the morning so you keep that in mind

My Son and I enjoy a beautiful afternoon visiting the famous Trevi Fountain. We visited about 630pm on April 25th 2024 and around that time its extremely crowded. I have recently find early in the day or late at night is the best time. Even with the crowd i was still able to get great pics up-close. I must see when visiting Rome.

One of the most memorable trip, I made with my family was to Rome. We stayed at Hotel Trevi which is a walking distance to the legendary Fontana di Trevi. We could walk around the Fontana, take pictures sitting beside the fountain with it's legendary marvelous sculpture of Roman Gods. It was Designed by Nicola Salvi. It took 30 years to be completed, 262 years ago. This Gigantic stone works has a centre niche or exedra sculpture of the Roman God Oceanus on a Chariot pulled by 2 Hippocamps, In the niches flanking Oceanus Abundance spills water from her urn on a shell chariot, and two cascading tritons. Salubrity holds a cup from which a snake drinks. The best known and most persistent tradition consists of throwing a coin into the fountain before leaving "the eternal city", a superstition associated with the fountain being that whoever makes this gesture would favor a future return to the city. An estimated 3,000 euros are thrown into the fountain each day. It is estimated €1.4 million (US$1.5 million) was thrown into the fountain. The whole sculpture the columns, the Pillars n the statues, has an aura of mesmerizing beauty. All around the Fontana is an array of Shops selling Souvenirs of Italy, cafe, restaurants, pizza bars, super markets. It was as if we were transported back to Roman History. Awesome trip

I must say that the fountain is really majestic! The way the light hits it in the afternoon gives it a golden glow. It looks lifelike that the way it sculpted looks like it was moving and then got frozen. Too bad it gets really really crowded. It would have been nice to just sit and marvel at this artwork without thinking about time (or pick pockets). And with the crowds come the trash - the floor is sticky from the gelateria nearby and Rome being Rome it had trash of all sorts in every corner. Try going early in the morning for a more peaceful experience. We went at almost 7am, et viola, there were already a good size of people taking photos but nowhere near the time we went in the afternoon.

It is difficult to find anyone who goes to Rome and does not visit the Trevi Fountain. So you can expect a massification.
Admission is free (we had heard the rumor that it was not), but to get down to the Fontana you have to queue (although we saw people sneaking in) and they let people in as they go out.
From above you can see the Fontana (in fact we saw many people who had no intention of entering) although you will not be able to toss the coin (unless you have a lot of strength and risk taking an eye out).
We recommend visiting it listening to any audio guide of the Fontana as you will appreciate details that are not contemplated in an ordinary visit.
Don't miss out on ice cream at any nearby ice cream parlor.

The Trevi Fountain in Rome was beautiful. Its large statues and flowing water make it a great historical landmark. In August, the crowds were a bit overwhelming, so I could enjoy the view only for a few minutes before being pushed by someone. The sound of the water and the glow of the lights at night made the experience even better, but I didn’t take any pictures during the night. There are also small shops and cafés nearby to relax and enjoy the area. Visiting the Trevi Fountain was a wonderful experience, and I hope to come back sometime in the future.

I went with my family at the end of December 2024. The ruins were all so crowded that you would think they were coming from all over Europe for the Christmas holidays, like on a Yamanote train. The Trevi Fountain was crowded about rush hour on the Yamanote Line. It was a crowd that seemed dangerous to families with small children and the elderly because there were no guards to organize the crowd.

So pretty!! I was pretty hesitant at first because of how crowded it was and wanted leave but when I got closer to it I was so happy that I didn’t leave. I get why Fontana di Trevi is so popular. If you hate crowds but still want to see this beautiful monument I recommend to go inside of the stores around it . You still get a very beautiful view.

I was excited to visit the Trevi Fountain but I wasn’t expecting it to be so stunning in real life! Photos truly do not do it justice. We visited early in the morning (about 7.30am) and the way the light cast across the sculptures and danced on the water was breathtaking (we visited again in the afternoon which was way too busy to get near and at night to see it lit up and nothing compares to the morning light). It wasn’t too busy and we got a good view and had space to take some nice photos - I’d definitely recommend going early in the day for the best experience. We also found and drank from the little Fountain of Love to the side of the Trevi Fountain in honour of local legend 🥰

The enigmatic Fontana Di Trevi, located in the centre of Rome, gives its visitors a beautiful spectacle of water and its superb architecture. Given its quality has enormous demand that is reflected in long queues since dawn. However, it is possible to enjoy the monument without necessarily being next to it. We recommend visitors some caution in this area given the existence of couriers. Mandatory stop for anyone.

Rome is a fascinating city! We stayed at the Augusta Lucilla Palace hotel. It was small, the rooms were small but very clean and comfortable. The rooms had “smart” adjustable beds! Breakfast in the morning was included and very good.
We did the hop on/hop off bus tours to see as much as we could because we were only there overnight before leaving on a cruise. Walking around late at night finding our way back to the hotel felt safe because there were so many tourists everywhere!
One of the stops on the bus tour was to see the Vatican. Well, we saw it from far away and with lots of construction in between and no idea how to get there! Because of a heat wave we were not interested in trying to get to it at that point! You need to buy tickets ahead of time to get into Vatican City, which we did not do.
We were very surprised at the trash/litter in the streets! Someone told me it was like that 2yrs prior when they were there so it wasn’t just a recent problem.

It is certainly one of the busiest spots in Rome filled with tourists all day and night, but the iconic Trevi Fountain is still a magical sight. It is a beautiful work of art and is one of the most famous fountains in the world. The baroque fountain was designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762. Don't forget to throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain as legend says that this will guarantee your return to Rome. I found the fountain to be most beautiful when it's illuminated after dark, but this is also an incredibly busy time to visit. Nevertheless, we did find a couple spots to sit along with the other tourists here. I also enjoyed visiting on a different day in the early morning, but crowds were already building by 8am. You will not likely find a quiet time at the fountain but embrace the excitement of the crowd here as everyone struggles to capture the experience in a photo.

The Trevi Fountain was absolutely stunning and a definite must-see while in Rome. To avoid the heavier crowds, we visited early in the morning, arriving about 8:15am. Even at that hour there were a lot of people around. We took in the beauty of the fountain and got some pictures but left after about 15 minutes as the crowds seemed to grow by the minute. I wish we could have gotten back to see it at nighttime also, but that was not in the cards for us this trip.
