Johnny Madge Olive Oil Tour

Rome, Italy

About Johnny Madge Olive Oil Tour
Johnny Madge, internationally recognised olive oil judge in Tokyo and London. The tour starts at Fara Sabina station (45 minutes train journey from Rome). First stop is a beautiful olive grove where we will find wild herbs. Then we visit an olive tree that may be 2,000 years old and takes 5 people to hug it. We then drive through the idyllic Sabina landscape to where we have lunch. Here we taste at least 3 top quality olive oils; learn how they were made and learn how bad, non extra virgin olive oils are made. This presentation leads naturally into lunch where, with some of the foods served, we can experiment with olive oil pairing. After lunch we wind back through the countryside to the station and the train back to Rome. The Johnny Madge Olive Oil Tour is normally for small groups of up to 8 people but we cater for larger groups too. There are various different discounts for groups of over 4. For those who don't have time for this I offer a 90 minute olive oil tasting in Rome.

God bless, Elise and Matt Brosious When this is over, take an olive oil tour. Very enjoyable day with a charming host.

Our day with Johnny gave us a whole new appreciation of olive oil as he took us through the region and shared his vast store of knowledge and expertise. It was a joy to experience Johnny's kind and generous hospitality during the entire trip and at the fabulous lunch. Our appreciation of olive oil has been taken to a whole new level we didn’t even know existed. Think of your favorite person in the world, who is also the smartest person in their field - a person who is offering you a day with them to experience their passion - in this case, Johnny Madge and olive oil - don't hesitate in booking your day with Johnny - you will truly be enriched! We will be sending rave reviews to Tripadvisor - but those will come later, probably upon our return to the US at the end of the month. In the meantime, you indicated you would send an email showing what you recommended as the best olive oils - please do, at your convenience and would you please include a list of the oils we tasted yesterday - yum! yum! We will also contact Rudy at some point to see where we might acquire the best oils in the US. Also, do you know of a reputable store, in Monti or near, selling any oils you recommend. Our hearts are full with treasured memories of our day with you!

For something different, we had enough queuing for churches and decided to join Johnny’s tour to learn about olive oil. In January driving through the countryside was beautiful, enhanced by mist and such a change from the crowded Roman streets. Johnny was a very knowledgable guide, funny and accessible, he made olive oil, a great day out! The highlight for me was learning to taste the oils, really the best I’ve ever had, as well as seeing the olive pressing mill in action and the ancient olive trees. Of course, the delicious lunch will always be remembered! Highly recommended!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time with Johnny on the olive oil tour. It was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Rome, and we could not recommend his tours more highly. Johnny is an engaging and knowledgeable guide, and makes understanding olive oil accessible and interesting for the novice. Plus, lunch was very delicious and the drive about the countryside was lovely. Don't miss it!
