We had an EXCELLENT tour with Beatrice, who was a wonderful guide -- very knowledgeable, personable, responsive, and an excellent communicator (with a wonderful command of English... sadly necessary, as we don't speak Italian). After an extremely informative and enjoyable visit to two churches to view several Caravaggios in situ, Beatrice brought us to the restoration workshop to meet the restorers. The opportunity to see firsthand how the restoration process works, ask questions about the considerations the restorers have to take into account, etc. was truly unique. We observed demonstrations of solvent removal, saw how uv light is used to reveal areas of repainting/prior repairs, were shown how dry pigments are mixed with non-yellowing solvents to inpaint damaged areas of artworks, etc. The tour was one of the highlights of our weeklong trip to Rome. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed the close up look inside and outside of the Colosseum. The forum and Palatine hill was also enjoyable. Francesca was very knowledgable and friendly. Just 4 of us in the tour that early morning so we got lots of attention and probably more detailed info than we might have otherwise. Considering the actual entry ticket price, the cost of the personalized tour was pretty high, but we do not regret the experience.

I booked a tour with Roma Experience for the colloseum and forum. This was the best tour and tour guide that I've ever had. Our guide Vincenzo was fantastic -- he was incredibly knowledgeable, took the time to answer our questions, and adapted the tour to the interests of our specific group. His passion made history come alive for us, and we were able to access areas of the Colosseum that are off limits to the general public! The company itself is also fantastic. There were a lot of options, and booking the tour itself was easy. The hotel that I stayed at in Rome also highly recommends Roma Experience, and if I have the pleasure to return to Rome, I would enthusiastically book them again.

The absolute best private guide company in Italy that I have experienced. Incredibly knowledgeable guides that cater to your preferences and interests, saving you valuable time in museums and monuments in which you could otherwise get lost. They were also able to secure coveted tickets with limits at the last minute for us. We are so grateful to Elisa and her team for creating a truly memorable trip for us!

Maria gave my wife and I a thoroughly enjoyable, personal, informed and educational tour. She was able to focus on the interesting elements and gave background historical, social and cultural information. Probably the best tour we have been on.

Incredible experience! We had the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum experience, and were spoilt with the best food and wine evening!
We were recommended by a good friend to contact Elisa for this tour. Elisa was by far the best guide we have ever had the joy of experience. Not only is her knowledge on another level (she has dedicated her life to discovering history’s secrets, with a unique interest in hieroglyphics of all things!) but she is funny, charming, and an absolute pleasure to spend several hours wondering and exploring Rome.
You pay for a truly quality experience. Have a look at her beautiful instagram as a sneak peak of her expertise.

Took the Colosseum tour one day and the Vatican tour the next day. Very small groups. (Perfect to visit Rome at this time of the year). It was like having a private teacher who could answer every question you might have about these beautiful places and about life in Rome both in historic times and today. Made reservations on the internet a few days in advance, got immidiate reponse with every information needed. Well worth the money! (Much much better than the regular bus tours).

Took two tours with RomaExperience. They were like private tours as there were 6 of us on the Vatican tour and 5 on the Ancient Rome tour. Two different guides and both were terriffic and very knowledgeable. Walking past the long lines of people waiting for tickets at the Colisseum, I was glad to be on the tour. Will use RomaExperience again and would definitely recommend them.

we booked 2 tours with Roma tours and had a brilliant experience. We learnt so much in a relaxed informal way. On the second tour we were the only 2 people in the group so it was like a private tour. Our guide Francesca was so knowledgeable and actually lived in Rome so we felt we received a really authentic experience. We would recommend this company to everyone. Brilliant!

Booked both the small group tour and colosseum tour. They canceled the small group tour 2 days before the tour date leaving us stranded to find a tour. You try booking a tour 2 days out - middle of season... So, being pissed, we canceled the other tour, only to be charged full price due to their cancellation policy. Never again. Never again. Plus, you can do much better by reading Rick Steves recommendation for tour guides. Much better tours at much less cost (we found out later).

When we received a bad review we take some time to make a thorough internal investigation. In your case this operation is very difficult, because we could not identify you from your nickname.
More importantly, the problem you reported never occured to us: we never canceled a tour at the last minute (2 days before is last minute for us), and this makes us think you wrote thir review to the wrong company.
The second thing which really got us confused is that you talk about the tours you booked from us as two different tours: "Colosseum tour" and "Small group tour", which are, actually, the very same product. What we sell is "Small Group Tours of the Colosseum".
We have to confess we feel very frustrated by the fact we cant identify you and can't of course help nor to you neither to the other people who are reading this review.
Can you please double check if you posted this review in the right company? In case you didn't book with us in the first place, please ask trip advisor to move this review to the right company.

My husband and I would like to book a tour for Sept 30, or October 1. We would like a tour of the Colosseum, including, the underground, the arena floor and ALL levels. What tour selection would best fit our intrest?

Any of the Roma Experience tours that say "Underground" will include all levels. (The choices vary in day/night and size of group). There is no arena floor. It was wood and is long gone. "Underground" will get you to the areas where the gladiators were and where the animals were. It includes all the upper areas. Pre-purchasing a Roma Tour will allow you to skip the line.

On the Colosseum Underground Tour, does the tour have private access to the underground, arena, and third tier areas, or do we join a larger group for that part?

Hello! Thank you for your question. If you book our max12 tour, it is going to be just 12 people with you in the restricted areas. Whereas, if you book our max24 you might join a larger group inside the Colosseum. You can find both tour on our website.

If our cruise ship docks at 7 am, do you think would we have time to make it into the city for an 8:30 am tour? Unfortunately that is the only tour departure time I see available on the date we want to go, July 27th.

It's a bit tight but you should be able to make it. Your best option is to book a private car transfer with the car waiting for you at the deck as you get off the boat. We can organize the pick-up for you.
However, the only thing is, unfortunately, if for any reason you cannot make it by the time the group enters the sites you might miss part of all the tour inside the Colosseum, because the guide cannot have the group waiting for long. We usually advise cruise passengers to also consider our shore excursion private tours or to book later tours. If you are interested in the Colosseum Underground please notice that the CU is only available in group tours and, due to the administration of the Colosseum, the time entrance is subject to change or cancellation.

Thanks for your question, but we're in the tour business and not in hotels. Rome's Radisson Hotel, for one, has a nice indoor pool. If you're interested in tours of Ancient Rome, the Vatican, and City Center, we'd be happy to help with that.
