Our tour started off great! Our driver was at our hotel on time and took us to the Vatican. There we met our guide, Valter. The Vatican was VERY crowded & hot, but Valter was knowledgeable & pointed out many things along the way to pass time as we waited in line moving from room to room. Next, we made stops at the Piazza Navona, Pantheon & Trevi Fountain. During this portion, it was apparent that our driver was new. He had trouble navigating the busy streets & our guide had to often tell him turn-by-turn directions. This caused delays in our day, led to more walking, as well as distracted the guide. This cause us not to see the Spanish Steps - this was a big bummer. We had lunch right outside the Colosseum which was great & a good break from the hot day. After lunch we proceeded to the Colosseum. Here it seemed like our guide simply ran out of gas. During a quick bathroom break, he even implied we could just stop & stay at the restaurant for the rest of the day. We drugged through the Palatine & then took another break at a viewpoint where our guide pointed-out buildings of the Forum, but on the way down to actually see the Forum, our guide 'suddenly realized' it was almost 4:30 & abruptly called our driver to pick us up. Our only tour of the Forum was on our way to the pick-up point. My wife & I were shocked at the abruptness of the end of the tour & the lack of effort/enthusiasm in the afternoon portion, especially for the amount of money we paid for this tour.
