Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. Context's Rome walking seminars are an alternative to typical guided tours. With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome.

Knowing that we could only be in the Galleria Borghese for the limited timeframe that the museum provides, we decided to book a Context tour of the gallery so that we could get as much out of it as possible. We are so glad that we did! My children (12 and 9) and I enjoyed the tour with Lauren Golden... More

My husband and I, both fans of English Romantic poetry , decided to do this tour . In the sweltering heat of a Roman summer we met Hilary our guide in the cool of the English Cemetry. Hilary was a wonderful and knowledgable guide with a warm and engaging personality and a great sense of humour. We visited the Keats... More

Several friends suggested we use Context Tours and they were so enthusiastic that we decided to try it. Our tour guides, Patricia and Cecilia, were incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, but also very sensitive to our family group whose ages ranged from 3 to 78 years of age. Everyone in our family agreed that the two tours were the highlight of... More

I would not entrust something as important as the art of the Vatican to any guide other than from Context and our docent Francesca met the challenge with skill and grace. This was no easy feat as the Vatican was jam packed. Francesca was prepared, efficient, knowledgeable and interesting. She made certain that every one of us in our small... More

We loved the popes, powers, and parties tour with Lauren. I wasn't sure if this would be a good choice for our family, but it turned out to be the perfect introduction to Rome. Lauren really knew how to make ideas accessible to children while at the same time keeping the adults engaged. Our kids can be a little shy,... More

Our welcome to Rome tour with docent Lauren was fantastic. Lauren sat with use for a good hour explaining the ins and outs of Rome and circling on the map attractions, restaurants, gelatorias, and more for us to see and explore. She gave us helpful hints on navigating the city not only geographically but in terms of handling taxis, tips,... More

I highly recommend Context tours. Our guide, Elizabeth, was wonderful. She engaged our three kids (ages 13, 10 and 6) each at their own level of understanding. Her knowledge of archeology and art history were fantastic. Our Rome Underground tour was definitely a highlight of our time in Rome!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Context Travel and would highly recommend them for your visit to Rome. We had a group of 8 - four adults and four children ages 13 (2), 11, and 10. Starting with the confirmation we received before we even left the states, I was impressed with how organized Context was. They gave us... More

Dr. Golden was fantastic. She was bright, articulate, and very attentive to making sure our 10 year old grandson was engaged. Context guides have masters and above, and her mythology talk was perfect.

Neighborhood Profile
Monti
Monti is Rome’s rebel yell. This neighborhood just west of Termini train station mixes grit with fun as it continues to fight for its reputation as a magnet for the artsy, alternative, and hipster. Every season, quirky boutiques and food spots sprout up on its cobblestone streets. The neighborhood supports unique and homegrown businesses that cater to its longtime residents as well as hipsters on the hunt. Hang out at Piazza della Madonna dei Monti anytime after lunch and you'll always find something going on.
