It is three years, practically to the day, since we spent a wonderful half day enjoying a Golf Cart Tour of Rome with Ivano from Driver Guide Service. If you had been in our cart with us, you too would have been highly entertained by Ivano, who proved to be a very passionate tour guide/driver, and very comical! We were, in equal measure, both exhilarated and educated.

Because the golf cart can traverse the narrow streets you not only see the big ticket items (Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Roman
Forum, Spanish Steps, Colosseum etc) but you also witness the many wonders off the beaten track (Jewish Ghetto, Piazza Margana, the maze-like alleys and streets in the historical city centre, bakers, shoemakers, antique doorways and so much more!

Ivano is generous with his time and knowledge, we went well over our allotted four hours and Ivano was prompt in collecting us from our accommodation. If you want to see and experience Rome from a local viewpoint, Ivano is your man and Driver Guide Service the company to deal with.

We send best wishes from Tasmania, wish all in beautiful Italy a speedy recovery from your extended lockdown and may we one day get to experience the wonders of your beautiful country once again.

FANTASTIC, KNOWLEDGEABLE, GREAT

We did a private tour half day tour of the Colliseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain, followed by a great lunch at a Family owned Italian restaurant and a half day private tour of the Sistine Chapel and Vactican City.
Roberta was awesome, putting together the tours we needed as we only had a short time in Rome. Giorgio was amazing guide and driver, full of information and laughs.
Gabriele did a fantastic job as well explaining and showing us the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Best tour ever!! Giorgio also took us to his favourite Gelato place when we were all finished. Great Day!

The BEST in Rome

Summary - Ivano (DGS) makes Italy COME ALIVE! His knowledge of Italy and his passion for making sure his customers have an exceptional experience makes him second to none.

Longer review - We were looking for an Amalfi Coast day tour, and found DGS (Ivano). After checking out reviews I couldn’t believe he had such amazing reviews. We booked the Amalfi Coast tour. Then as we were looking at what else he offered, we noticed he did a Rome tour that was a full day. We booked that too.

Ultimately, our trip was made INCREDIBLE by those two days. We did the trip around Rome with Ivano first, and it was a perfect way to see the city. Ivano would take us somewhere, give colorful details, then allow us to go explore the area. Then we would head off to the next place.

The Amalfi coast tour was also amazing. We had a great time seeing Pompeii and Positano. Our lunch was an incredible experience up on the side of the mountain!

We can’t wait to come back with our kids…we are already planning a longer trip with Ivano as our guide.

If you want to see the best of what Rome and Italy have to offer…Ivano will guarantee you a great time!

A wonderful way to explore Italy as a family

We used DGS for our trips around Rome and to and from Florence. Our driver, Georgio, was so wonderful and very informative. He drove us to Pompei for our tour talking about the area we drove through as well as his family. It made such a personal connection with us. Then when we came back to Rome, he drove us from Florence with a stop in Assisi, then onto Rome for our flight home.
Your staff is so wonderful and accommodating and we felt like we were able to be a part of a small Italian family with all of you.
There was nothing that you did, that did not rise to the level of having family in Italy. We will use again when we come to visit in 2022, so please stay healthy and safe!

Back Again for Two Tours, Both Amazing!

Two different tours with DGS!
First Tour, Full Day of Rome-
This was my second time touring Rome with Ivano! First was with my daughter in 2012 and then with my husband in 2023. DGS is the best! Ivano took us to amazing sites and explained the history in great detail. He also took us to a terrific lunch spot with delicious fresh homemade Italian food. We had a fabulous day!
Second Tour, Full Day Roman Countryside-
Claudio was awesome!! He picked us up from our cruise and provided us with a perfect day of touring! He drove us to beautiful Castel Gandolfo and some other really amazing spots. Claudio was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was one of the best days of our entire trip! We would definitely book DGS, Ivano, and Claudio again! Thank you Roberta and Ivano for making our trip to Rome special!

Rudest Customer Service I have ever encountered
I am a regular international traveler and I am used to tripadvisor's recommendations being quite accurate but Driver Guide Service being number one tour in Rome must be an aberation. I haven't actually used Driver Guide but the process of reserving was just horrible. I tried to book a tour with them for 6 people. Price quoted was good at 740 Euro for 2 days private tour, and since this was a multiday tour, included a free airport transfer at the end. I asked Ivano the contact person if 100 Euro of the total could be paid at the time of the 'free' airport transfer. He took offense and was extremely rude and said I was being insulting to him when he 'trusted' me to show up. This is despite their website clearly indicating that they charge for no shows and require credit card information for reservations and will charge them for cancellations or no shows. Trust is not the issue it's just normal business and usual to hold some payment until the end of services provided. He angrily refused the reservations which was a shocker since I was only polite to him the whole time.

Dear Future guests, Driverguideservice do not require credit card informations to reserve the service that starts fro the city of Rome Booking with us us is simpe an e mail as a confirmation is fine we trust your word!!! Is clear that we request a payment at the end of each service because we do not have any garancy considering that booking the package we offer a free transporattion from or back to the airport . We can prove that we never asked a credit card information to the guest, on our term and condition is clear that we require credit card information for services that starts from the ports of call . We never been rude as all our clients knows but we always try to accomodate their request . but please please let us decide when we can be accomodating or not and that does not means be rude We 've beeing working very hard from many generations to make all our clients happy , working hard to give the best service

In December 2012 I contacted Ivano through his website to arrange a private tour for my wife and I asked him to please plan the 'top of the line' tour from the north to the south of Italy. I was very clear that 'price' was no issue. I understood that Ivano was rated Number one on tripadvisor and I expected to receive superior service.

Unfortunately, his email correspondance was very unprofessional along with his English. There was always an unusually long response time (I now work and live in Europe, which means there was no time difference) so I asked him directly 'are you still interested in working with me' or should I contact another operator? Ivano's abrupt reply was that he was "vacationing in Hawaii". Since I understood that was a sarcastic reply, I called his office immediately. Much to my surprise, Ivano answered his office landline phone! (this was Europe day-time, it would have been night in Hawaii but they were definetely awake and answered right away) .
From that point on, Ivano started leaving me voice messages to explain why he lied, asking if we could still be "friends".

I now have no interest in booking with this "company" nor will I in the future. I would NEVER refer this person to anyone!

Dear Ta Reader this is the second review that this member is trying to post and that has been removed already on february 2013 anyway Few points i would like to clear up by the time he called the office we were on vacation but obviously we always have one of our staff taking calls, but wasn't me fisically i wasn't there , next time i hope he will make sure to have the name of is speaking at the phone . 788 review say our english is good enough to make happy our customers i leave it up to you this We couldn't leave any voice message because purposely he never left his phone number Ivano, As all our customers know our answer is always a fast reply . i found this review a little bit offensive and this feedback doesn't say the truly true about our company I can prove with all our correspondence to all of you How fast and courteous we were with him and never used a bad tone like he did Anyway i 'm glad to know that i am always desired this means that so far I have done something good This is his answer when we told him that we weren't available for that kind of service Dear Ivano won't be using your service, I made my reservation with another operator which was yes more expensive, but quicker and clearer in their response, and sent a much more detailed itinerary. It is always true, you get what you pay for. Hopefully we'll meet again in the future, I am sure time will give you the opportunity of growing professionally. Unbelievable Tour of Rome

I will start off saying if you don't book with this company, you are seriously missing out. Last time we visited Rome, we did so much all in one day, was rushed through all sites, and sadly cant remember everything we toured.. this time around I wanted things to be different. Not only was it different, but it was a tour I will never forget and let me tell you why.

We booked a private 2 person tour and Ivano the owner of DGS was our tour guide for the day. His English was excellent, and what was most appealing is how passionate and energetic he was through out the entire day. He was so knowledgeable about not only the history but also the culture of Rome which provided a tour we wont forget. He took the time to explain all the sites we were about to see, answered every question we had, and gave us plenty of time to take pictures and walk around.

Our tour was 7 hours and the sites that we visited was: the Capitoline Hill, the Colosseum, Venezia Square, Appian Way & the Catacombs, the Spanish Steps, Navona Square, Circus Maximus, the Theatre of Marcellus, The Pantheon, as well as a few other stops Ivano loves around the city (the Trevi Fountain is currently under restoration and we didn't get to visit it during our tour -- but we did get a chance to walk by another day since we spent a few days in Rome, either way this was not an issue for us). Throughout the tour, he used several different methods to explain the history (he used an ipad to give a visual of what sites looked like in the past and present and also used books). During the tour we got to stop at a great restaurant for lunch which is a favorite of Ivano... the food was delicious and was perfect!

Overall the experience was something we will never forget and was so happy we went with Drivers Guide Service Private Tours. Their website is top-notch, the email responses are prompt and very detailed, and my husband I love that this is a FAMILY business. Ivano comes from a family of tour guides and by the end of the tour i felt like we received every pennies worth. I can't say enough about DGS!

Great Way to See Rome

We were in Rome for close to a week in late November 2014 and we wanted to get the most out of our family vacation so we decided to book a few private tours.

We chose Driver Guide Service as their Tripadvisor reviews were very positive and they also had the type of tours we were after. We booked their Extended Vatican Tour (4 hours) and their Explore Rome with a True Roman Tour (7 hours). Both tours were great.

Our first guide was Laura whose knowledge of the Vatican was very insightful. She provided a lot of the background and historical context necessary to truly appreciate the artwork.

Then we had Ivano for a day to show us Rome’s main historical attractions. Our aim with this tour was to get an overview of Rome’s historical sites so we could return on following days to explore in more depth those sites that most appealed to us. Ivano is a very entertaining guide - he sort of explodes out of his seat when he wants to make a point.

Ivano planned the day perfectly so that each attraction just flowed into the next and he chose a fantastic little restaurant for lunch as well.

We would definitely recommend DGS if you want to get the most out of your time in Rome.

Our family spent a day being shown the sights and highlights of beautiful Rome with DGS. Ivano is a man whose love and passion for Rome enhanced our experience no end. We were free to choose our own itinerary, but were more than happy to be guided by Ivano's suggestions. There was a perfect mix of getting out at places to take photos and spend an hour or half hour as we wanted, on our own, and a guided commentary, both in the (very comfortable) car and walking along and inside various attractions. There is no way we could have known Rome like we got to with Ivano's historical background, and highly recommend this company and this way of experiencing Rome. Professional, punctual, personable and a perfect way to see a city that he clearly knows and loves. Extra highlights included tickets to Colloseum that avoided lining up, entree to a pretty amazing coffee place and introduction to a pizza place where the 'locals' eat. Magnifico!
