We spent a whole Sunday simply wandering in this large and very beautiful park/gardens. It was well worth all the time we spent. Variety from open woodland to formal or sit and watch the boats on the lake around the Temple of Asclepius. A hidden gem is the Museum of Pietro Canonica, he was a very talented sculptor and much of his originals can be seen here. And then there’s the Zoological Park!

During our 5 day stay in Rome we headed to the gardens to have a little down time. It was wonderful! It’s not a long walk from many of the star attractions but it’s tranquil and a great setting to catch your breath. The lake with the rowing boats is lovely, and only 8 euro for 20 mins a great find. You get to see wild terrapins swimming or sunning themselves, what a bonus. The gardens also have plenty of street entertainment. Great place.

This park/gardens are set above the city of Rome and some lovely views from the terrace. This park has many head statues around the park and only 3 of these are women. The park has many large, old trees, a large monument and a small lake where you can have a boat ride. This is the biggest park in Rome and a lovely place to relax in Rome. Great for a walk or energetic run. There is a large villa here which belonged to Borghese in 1580. It is now owned by the municipality of Rome and permanently open to the public.

It is an 80-hectare park in the heart of the city, adorned with 40 fountains, 20 buildings, 18 monuments, countless sculptures and a museum gallery with an extraordinary collection.
Among the parks of the city, it is one of the richest from a vegetation and landscape point of view: it has centuries-old trees, small lakes and ponds, both artificial and natural, Italian and English gardens. It includes also several species of evergreen trees.
The entire park was originally divided into three distinct sectors, called "enclosures", delimited by brick fences and accessible through portals.
The first was the one that included the portion of the garden around the 'Casino Nobile', the second which is that of the current 'Parco dei Daini'. The third "enclosure", the largest (measuring about 40 hectares) and whose boundaries extended to the Campagna Romana, also intended for hunting, included the entire remaining area, from the current Piazza di Siena to the Bioparco which also includes the zoo .
Over the centuries, the park has represented the perfect setting for the works of famous artists, has inspired famous musical arias and numerous novels, and still today, in the unexpected and romantic views of its gardens, reveals the splendor of the past.
Do not miss a walk to the Pincio terrace, which is very well known and popular, to enjoy a spectacular view of Rome.

I was a little disappointed with these gardens as was expecting more formality of the gardens. It was more parkland with some beautiful villas and the zoo. Some of the statues in the gardens were poorly maintained and I appreciate that they are open to the elements but it just needed a little more love and attention. I was expecting gardens rather than parkland. Great for walking around if you want to get away from the cityscape.

What an outstandingly beautiful place this must have been. Unfortunately, it is not maintained and the gardens are dying a slow sad death. The restaurant within, however, has a large beautiful patio to dine on and enjoy the quiet peace of majestic old trees. Boats can still be rented for 20 minute intervals on the small pond if sitting on the water is your desire.

We hadn’t seen or heard too much about the gardens before going to Rome but decided to take a walk up and are glad we did. Whilst they aren’t very formal gardens, there was an enormous amount of green space to rest and relax and it was so peaceful considering the buzz of tourists and the city were only a 10 minute walk away. Must see the turtles in the little lake!

It was a very hot day, so after we looked at the main vista, we hopped in the little train. For a few euros, we had a tour of about 30 minutes with commentary of the gardens, with a few picture stops.

This was great and allowed us to see what we couldn't have seen walking due to the heat.

On Tuesday 1st August I decide to take the train inside the Park; I then go to the Pincio around 2pm (one of the three stops) and wait confidently, alas.
After an hour, nothing at all has passed.
Despite the 34°C I then move to the other stop (Villa Borghese) and see the train stopped waiting.
I approach hopefully and see the driver who is sleeping (I repeat: sleeping) in the cab, lying on the seat, radio on and navel visible...
I waited more than an hour (in the height of tourist season and with 34°C) in vain for a "worker" who is sleeping during service hours.
I won't tell you the laughs that foreign tourists had watching him while I, as an Italian, felt like crying. Simply shameful.
