When arriving at the Colosseo we are approached by several people who try to raise clients for companies of guided visits. They suggest that the waiting time is very high and that through them the entrance is practically immediate. One of these approaches was made by a kind portuguese woman named Diana who informed us that for 35 euros we would be entitled to guided visits to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine. I can not tell you if the value was the same as the other companies in the area, but given the time constraint I had on this visit to Rome, especially because of the storm that affected Italy in those days, I found it a good option. The way the company operates in terms of registration for the various visits is quite confusing in my opinion (like so many other aspects in the city of rome) but they manage to orient themselves. The waiting time was short enough to enter the attractions and what can I say about guided tours? In the Colosseo we had as a guide Luena (visit in spanish), I think an Argentine girl who spoke with a passion and friendliness like I have never seen. That's why, in my opinion, it's worth the money. Knowing that I was Portuguese, she took certain words in attention so that I could understand the whole explanation but this was never in question since the speech was so clear that it was easily understood. Upon leaving the Colosseo and given the storm that was occurring, we were informed that the Roman Forum would be closed for security reasons but that we could come back the next day to make that visit. At the Foro Romano, again in spanish, the guide was Carlo and once again did not disappoint. Lots of passion and sympathy in the speech. On both visits, I never felt rushed. I do not give maximum rating because we were told that we would have access to the Palatine and it was closed, probably a few days ago, I can not be sure of that. At the end of the visit with Carlo, we were invited to buy a guided tour of the Vatican through another company. We accepted and it is true that the guided tour we bought was more or less what we had indeed. However Carlo, perhaps for lack of knowledge, I do not know, did not give us the correct hours which caused some problems with the check out at the hotel.

We booked this tour so we would have a small group with english speaking guide. This tour was awesome and our guide was great. BUT- at the end of this tour we booked another tour through them for the Vatican. We told them we could do the 27th (December) but thay we HAD to be done with that tour in time to take the one and only tour we had booked 5 months prior when we booked our trip. We had looked forward to going to the Catacombs and had booked a small group, underground tour for 2:30 on Dec. 27th. Santos took us to get money, we bought him a coffee and he promised we would be done with our 9:00 AM Vatican tour with no problem. Well when he booked, we were not aware that he booked us through a different company. We arrived at 8:45 AM only to be told our tour wouldn't start until 10:30. To be back at 10:15. We still figured we would be ok. We came back and they had sent our tour to another tour company!! We didn't arrive at the Vatican until after 11:00. We paid $55.00 each to get a small group English speaking tour. When we arrived at the Vatican, we were placed in the same line those that were getting in for free were in. Literally thousands of visitors. By the time we got into the tour, it was 11:30. With a very thick Italian speaking guide. We couldn't understand a thing she said, we sent so quick and it was so crowded. We lost my husband and they didn't care. I left the group to find him. I found him after 45 mins. We went so fast through to try to get to our other tour we saw NOTHING!! We were too late to get from the Vatican to our other tour by 2:00. So that day not only did we waste $110.00 on the Vatican tour, we lost our $138.00 for the Catacombs tour. I would not recomend this tour group for these reasons.

Our guide brought the place to life with her stories and was very sweet, always willing to answer any questions the group had. Worked out perfectly and was just what I was looking for, no waiting in lines and well worth the extra expense!

These scammers and hookers said us, that we needn’t wait in the fast line at the 12:30 with our super tickets, “there will be skip the line at the 13:30”. Ok, we’ve returned in 13:30, and go with them to the SAME LINE , staying with them 2 HOURS, and HAVEN’T go inside this day! Moreover, we pay them 23 euro per person for that (later returned). Hope they meet with carabinieri.

We were approached by a tour operator and told that the ticket for a guided tour would be 25Euros per person and we asked him a few questions and then agreed to take up the offer. The colosseum offers a ticket for 12 euros and an audio guide inclusive for 18, so we thought 25 is not too bad! When we went to pay, we were then charged 35euros per person. He claimed that he said 35 from the beginning but it’s impossible that my husband and I both heard 25 at first ?!?!?

Next when we were inside the colosseum we had an average tour guide. Once finished he asked us to meet another tour guide who will continue with the palatine hill tour.

Our first day in Rome was free Sunday that month so we were unable to pre-book tickets, unfortunately we arrived 1 hour after opening for the colosseum and the line was already well over 2 hours long, we were then approached by this tour group who said we would queue just 20 minutes if we paid for their guided tour, we were escorted to the tour manager who took our money (extremely expensive for a day when the sights are meant to be free!), when asked if this got us into all parts of the colosseum we were informed that yes it did. We were not informed but this tour included the forum and palatine hill so we would go there first as it was so busy, when we arrived we waiting in the regular queue to get our free tickets to all 3 attractions! This is were I started to feel like a dumb conned tourist. After we had done the forum tour we returned to the colosseum where we queue again but this time in the prebought ticket line. Anyone could have easily have collected their ticket from the forum themselves and entered this line, the guided tour did not give you any advantage. Once inside we had the tour of the regular colosseum areas and the tour ended, no mention of access to the underground or panoramic areas at all. Total con job, do not be fooled like we were, fortunely we learnt our lesson from this and weren’t fooled at any other attractions. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is that our guide was actually very informative and friendly, unfortunately he didn’t introduce himself at all so I can’t even name him!

We took the tour to Colosseo, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, very disappointing, for the Colosseo part , the lady that guide us seemed like she was creating her own story tale though she was very nice . The second part was just horrible , our guide Tatiana was very rude and unprofessional . She was literally running, it was very hard to follow her , my husband approached her to ask her to go a little bit slower and her answer was that if someone has any kind of disability ( which we don't have any ) they should not take a tour like this , and she just kept going at her pace , almost half of the group were left behind for the most part of the tour . It is worth to mention that my husband and I decided to finish by ourselves and so did others. I don't think she even noticed. It is a shame because the people from the office were kind and helpful.

We were quite disappointed about how we were approached to buy this tour. Be careful. We had an American approach us and tell us about how the lines are long and that taking the tour with his company was the way to go. When my husband protested he said that he would not steer an American wrong as he served two tours of duty for the US. He told us we could take the most expensive tour and would have enough time to do it all. Well we did not. We were rushed though the Palantine Hill even though the guide Mya (sp?) was very engaging. We did not have enough free time to explore on our own because we had to rush back to the office to take the next tour of the Colosseum. We were told to be back to the office by 1:10pm sharp. We were there and were told we did not have time to get a quick bite but we did not leave until after 1:30pm to be told our guide George, who was sitting right next to us, would be our guide for the tour. George was very informative and despite the promises that we would skip the lines we had to wait in a line. Also though the underground was nice, it was not as advertised. It was a quick 5-7 minutes at most to see the underground. When we came out of the Colosseum, we inquired whether we could go on the Palantine tour again. George said yes but Mya said no, even though she looked us in the eye and said that she tried. All in all, I would not recommend this tour company. The office staff was awful as well speaking about us badly in Italian when we were right there in front of them.

Above the Metro station by th he Colosseum, Fun Tours runs a number of tours, the best is cut the line guided tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. The guides are knowledgeable and animated. Makes the visit more worthwhile to go with a guide.

Paul was an amazing tour guide! He met us promtly at our scheduled time. Very personable and his love of history was contagious. He not only showed us the expected Rome highlights but took extended time to show and tell us about sights that we would have missed on our own. We had him choose our menu items for lunch and it was delicious and a great way to sample several Italian dishes.
He is from London, so there was no language barrier.
