The area
Address
Neighborhood: Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.

We booked the cooking class and were not sure what to expect as we had little information about it at first. We were quickly greeted by the friendly chef Marco which immediately made us feel extremely welcome. He took us to the local market where we got the best ingredients to cook our fresh pasta along with a nice wine to pair the dish. We also learned a lot about Rome and Italy as Marco is a local that knows all about it which made the experience even better. The pasta we made was fantastic and the overall experience will definitely be something to remember! Recommend everyone to do this as it was a great experience!

Marco is one of the nicest, funniest, and warmest people I’ve met while travelling. The class was amazing: right from the market to sharing wine at the end, I was totally engaged. I was genuinely disappointed when it ended. Also the BEST pasta of my life! I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone! You won’t regret it!

Rome should be proud of its son, Marco. He is a chef/guide extraordinairre. His instruction will help you become proficient in pasta preparation in short order. High on edutainment and delicious, this class is one of the best values in Rome. It features great trip to the marrket as well as a walk-though on sauce prep and the class has Marco. Do not hesitate in selectiong this class.

We had the pleasure of cooking with Marco today. It was a perfect Saturday full of great company, great wine, great teaching and amazing food. Marco is truly not only an excellent chef but also an amazing guy. My partner and I would recommend this activity 100% to everyone being in Rome. Worth every penny - and more.

Marco was the BEST! I have never made pasta from scratch, but Marco is an excellent teacher and chef. This was one of our highlights of our holiday in Italy and France. I learned a lot. Drank a lot of wine :-) And laughed a lot. Great small group. Would definitely recommend!

Marco did a great job with this cooking class - I’m so glad I finally learnt how to make pasta and now I know how easy it actually is! A couple of things to be aware of though: the cooking class is in a hostel so don’t expect anything fancy! Also, we overran by an hour so you should take that into consideration if you have anything planned after. I also feel like we could have done without the market trip, it’s a nice touch but not really worth taking the metro there and back for. However, Marco was great and really friendly and knowledgable and it was a really fun experience. I’d definitely recommend it!

Marco met us at the reception and we headed straight to the farmers market. He gave us an option to walk there and on the way he gave us a tour of the area, the Colosseum and the Roman forum from the outside. When we reached the market he brought fresh ingredients and some really good wine. It was also nice to sample some of the ingredients in the market.
We took the train back and started prepping the pasta. He taught us how to make ravioli, linguine and fettuccine pasta. We made 3 dishes and they were amazing. The butter and sage ravioli was one of the best we have ever had. Marco is a really cool guy and we had some very interesting conversations. I would definitely recommend this as it would make your trip memorable. We can't wait to start making our own pasta at home.
