My wife, adult nephew, and I did three tours with when in Rome tours during our one week vacation in Rome. Each tour was excellent. We did the 10 Tastings Food tour (with Roberta), the Heart of Rome and Colosseum Tour (with Massimo), and the Entire Vatican and Vatacombs Private Tour (with Luigi).

Each tour was well thought out and very enjoyable. The tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly locals who have all of the information that you want and brought their own personalities and love for the city and its history to their tours.

We started with the food tour with Roberta. She walked us around the Trastavere, Campo dei Fiori, and Piazza Navona areas showing us how to eat like locals. We were stuffed by the end of the tour and had an amazing time with Roberta. She was very warm and welcoming and made us feel instantly comfortable. In addition, as she knew that we would be spending New year's in Rome, she went out of her way to provide additional tips and recommendation for activities that we might enjoy for the holiday.

We did the heart of Rome and Colosseum walking tour with Massimo. Massimo was entertaining and knowledgeable and made the tour fun for the entire group. He kept up a good pace throughout and guided us through the subject matter with an expertise that demonstrated his deep knowledge and education while also keeping it very fun and engaging.

Our private tour of the Vatican with Luigi was on a particularly crowded day at the Vatican. If we had not been with Luigi, who's enthusiasm for the subject matter is infectious,we would not have enjoyed the experience anywhere near as much as we did. Luigi cut through all the lines, shaking hands and saying hi on a first name basis with every security guard at the Vatican along the way. He gave us lots of additional information and pointed out small details throughout the Vatican museum and other Vatican buildings that we never would have noticed on our own. He was able to answer every question that we had. Even when we started asking about the geographic origin of random pieces of marble in different rooms, he was always able to provide an answer. It was truly impressive. Really made the Vatican experience wonderful for us.

Overall, we would highly recommend this company. there are a lot of companies offering tours in Rome. I am sure that many of them are excellent, but I can't imagine how any of them could be much better than When in Rome.

Hello! Thank you for such a detailed review! I write on August 31st, quite late, but we've been caught up in travel restrictions, especially from the United States, since March. We do greatly appreciate your contribution here and when travel, tourism returns, please do come back to Rome. It will be wonderful to see you again. Wishing you the best! When In Rome Tours

Rome is overwhelming; every corner you turn is something amazing. Booking When In Rome tours was the best decision I made the entire trip. We did the 2 day tour; day one Vatican, day two around town and Colosseum. We had a 6 year old in tow and while they were both long excursions, it was worth it.

We had Chiara for the Vatican and she was funny, bubbly and delightful - kept the kids engaged but also was very knowledgeable. I giggled my way through the tour and even though we went long, she kept us upbeat. You can tell that being a tour guide is her calling.

We had Irene for the Colosseum tour and you could sense her passion for the history of Rome and took many pictures of our family without needing to be asked and emailed them to me promptly. It’s such a gift to have pictures of all of us that isn’t a selfie. She also had great food recommendations as we walked around the city. The tour was great for our energetic 6 yr old because he could cruise around near us to chase pigeons or whatever while Irene educated the adults.

Both were at the ready with sanitizer. I’d recommend packing quick treats for kids and adults. We so lucky to be able to visit Rome while the weather was nice and the city is empty - we certainly checked a lot of boxes and When in Rome tours really made the most out of our time.

Hello! It means everything to us to receive such positive feedback during such a difficult period. Tourism has been devastated by travel restrictions and scaremongering about Covid-19 but we are running our tours through this storm as is our passion and our responsibility. Every booking is a gift and we are so pleased to have met you and showed you our city. We'll be glad to see your photos here on our TripAdvisor page if you would be so kind as to upload them. Everyone can come to Rome, just wash hands and wear a mask as and when it is required. Nothing else, very simple. Even these minor necessities are hopefully just a short term effect. Thank you again, When In Rome Tours.

We booked a tour for St. Peter's Basilica, Dome
Climb & Papal Crypts: Guided
Tour and also for The Sistine Chapel, our guide was Chiara - remember this name. First of all, I really recommend to buy whole package tour, views and places are breathtaking and unforgettable. Secondly our tour guide - Chiara, was one of the nicest and really helpful people I've ever met. She has a lot of knowledge about Vatican in general, and also knows how to "give" this knowledge to the tourists. Interesting stories, funny jokes, and trying to show as much as possible is sth that makes you feel like a friend of your guide, not just the next client. 10/10 from me. Strongly recommend.

Our guide Chiara Antonelli was fun, funny and very knowledgeable. She kept our entire tour group of 13 entertained and we learnt a lot about the ancient and rich Roman and Vatican history, how the Vatican City was build
as well as some of the interesting facts of how the inspiration came about on some of the major art pieces.

While the tour duration was around 5H +, due to our guide it does not feel that long

I will highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in exploring Rome.

Marianne was an amazing tour guide; she was knowledgeable and had a cheerful disposition that made for an inviting and casual atmosphere. We did the 5 hour tour of St. Peter’s basilica + Vatican museum, and it was phenomenal! We were privileged to climb the steps to the top of St. Peter’s dome to take in the breathtaking views of Rome from such an astonishing height! Then we took a tour within the basilica itself which included visiting the papal tombs underneath the church. Lastly we had “skip the line” tickets to the Vatican museum and spent the final hours in the museum, including seeing the iconic Sistine Chapel. The Sistine chapel was the last visit of the tour and once it was over we were able to stay in the museum to keep looking around at our own pace, which was really nice considering how long we would’ve waited in line to enter otherwise (maybe 60-120minutes otherwise in line). The in depth historical context Marianne provided was essential to being able to fully appreciate the beauty in the art and architecture to an extent that we couldn’t have reached without her knowledge. I definitely recommend going on this tour if you’re someone who is impartial to Roman Catholic history and all the beautiful art that accompanies the divine locale.

We were lucky enough to do a tour of the Vatican museum with Sandra. We had a wonderful morning seeing the many treasures of the museum without the crowds.
Sandra was very engaging and really brought the artworks to life with her descriptions.

We booked the Vatican museums and Dome climb, but St. Peter's was closed due to a Pope-related event. Our tour guide for the Vatican museums was Chiara and she was EXCEPTIONAL! She was extremely knowledgeable, managed the immense crowds with grace and did a great job connecting with the people in the group. She was funny and endearing and I can't imagine our family having a better guide. The museums are stunning and the Sistine Chapel was breathtaking.

I did the Rome in a Day tour for the second time in two years. The morning was at the Vatican and was informative - but like most Vatican Museum tours in recent years it was packed which is a bit of an inconvenience however with the headphone provided I was able to get some goof information. In addition at the end of the Vatican Museum tour we were able to proceed directly into St Peter's basilica without having to go out and wait forever in a line. the afternoon started at the Coliseum and included the Roman Forum and concluded at Travi Fountain, the Pantheon and ended at Piazza Navona. Both of our guides were great and helpful. The afternoon was especially memorable because for different reasons the other members of the group left and so my son and i were the only one left for a good portion of that section and so we had Nadia our guide all to ourselves - she was wonderful and passionate about Rome. I hghly recmmend this tour - although I must admit it is a FULL and tiring day.

This was by far my favorite tour so far! Chiara is so engaging and has a true passion for this city. Her insight and knowledge kept us captivated, and her witty sense of humor had us laughing. Entering through the gladiator gates at the Colosseum was a wonderful experience and it was nice getting that time for just our small group. I would highly recommend Chiara...she is a true asset to this tour company!!

This was our first time to Rome and the highlight of our week long stay was the tour of the Vatican. It was just amazing. Paulo our guide was beyond spectacular! We opted for an early morning tour which I would highly recommend as the lines are shorter and it is certainly less crowded. Paulo expertly took us through the entire tour, pointing out fascinating details everywhere we went. We did the tour with my Mother who was having difficulty walking and Paulo was so sweet and kind to her and kept a reasonable pace to insure she could keep up. That was really appreciated. The tour was well worth it and would highly recommend this company and Paulo in partiocular if you are lucky enough to have him as your guide. Ciao!
