Real Rome Tours is a small team of local guides, licensed and experienced in giving guided tours of Rome and the Vatican in English.

Although all of our guides are licensed tour guides in Rome and the Vatican, they each have our own areas of expertise. We have archaeologists, art historians, and university lecturers among our ranks, and as our reputation has grown we continue to invite similarly-qualified guides to join us.

Our philosophy is simple: We believe that tours should be fun as well as informative. We also believe that our customers are best served in small groups. For this purpose, we strictly limit our semi-private tours to only 13 people.

Our fees are honest and reflect the small sizes of our groups. We include ticket prices in our tour fees where tickets are applicable, and we always skip the lines. Headsets are provided so you can walk around and still hear your live guide.

Our customer base and reputation have been growing steadily over the past few years, and we promise to continue to strive to deliver the perfect Rome experience for all our future guests. We hope to see you on one of our tours in 2016!

I took the tour in late June and my tour guide was very knowledgeable. The tour group was about 15-20 of us. We were able to go underground and have a close up view of went went on. Of course, you are very limited to the walkways, but it was still a great experience. Really my favorite thing in Rome.

We visited Rome during the bank holiday weekend and decided on the underground tour of the Colosseum to avoid the massive queues as well as feed our interest in such a magnificent monument. Our tour guide was extremely informative and friendly and made the 3 & half hour tour very enjoyable indeed. Thankfully the sun was shining but it wasn't... More

We booked small group tours for Discover Rome (am) and Discover Vatican (pm) last 22 Oct. What attracted us at first, was the skip-the-line promise, because we expected the lines to take hours off our limited time in Rome. It was supposed to be small-group, but since someone cancelled last minute, it became a private tour of sorts. Our small... More

This was such a great tour. Nothing compares with going down below the stage and seeing the place from the viewpoints of the game participants and then going up above and seeing it from the seats of the leaders and the populace. Our guide was very informative and the group was not large, so we could look around and have... More

Really enjoyed this tour. The Vaticans history is obviously immense so our guide being so knowledgeable and passionate about it meant we got the most out of our time there. The back stories behind the creation of the artworks you see and the Vatican itself really help put the history in context and bring it to life. Well worth doing... More

Normally, I prefer self-guided tours, but after experiencing this tour, I feel it is an essential part of the experience when visiting Rome. I've been to the Colosseum years ago, but found the new Underground VIP Tour most fascinating. Our guide, Ferninando, who earned in PhD in Archeology, was most informative and kept the tour interesting throughout. The 3.5 hour... More

We decided to do the early access Vatican Tour with Real Rome Tours and are so glad we did. Our guide whose name a can't recall was a historian and was full of knowledge, he really added to the impressiveness of the Vatican. Also, the early access got us in an hour prior to the general folks and he took... More

We booked a Monday tour a fair bit in advance and were told it wouldn't be confirmed until others booked the same day. A few days later it was confirmed and we were set to go. When we arrived at the meeting point we were told we were the only ones booked in and we would have our very own... More

Our tour guide was knowledgeable, but the tour was too fast paced. The headsets, that they gave you to listen too, were of poor quality. There must have been 12 to 15 times the sound stopped and our guide didn't know it, and we had to continually let her know there was no sound or that the sound was cracking... More

Management response:

Dear Client I apologise that there were radio problems for your private tour of 4. I must assure you that we at the company knew nothing about this until we read your review. We have procedures in place for guides to follow in the event of any problems, so that we can assist them, which on this occasion were not... More

Staying in Prati

Neighborhood Profile
Prati
Just steps away from the chaos of the center, Prati is the closest Rome gets to calm. Meticulously planned in a neat grid, quite unlike neighboring Borgo, Prati is a local favorite for its aesthetic organization and wide streets lined with a range of boutiques for every shopping fantasy. Nonnis pushing baby carriages and gossiping teens own every inch of the sidewalk, but that’s only during business hours. Once the sun sets, quirky sidestreet bars celebrate aperitivo hour, those evening cocktails that help wash away the tensions of Roman life.
