My wife and I had an excellent guided tour of the Vatican museum, Sistine Chapel and St.Peter’s Basilica today. We were picked up at our hotel, and had a personal guide (born and bred in Rome) who was extremely knowledgeable about the history of everything we saw. I strongly recommend visiting the site but especially with a guide. The overall experience was exceptional.

We booked a small group tour however due to Covid there was only 3 people so very personal tour. Christina was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and in view of time constraints she choose the most relevant things to show us. The hotel pickup was on time. However we were not informed that they did not drop you back to your hotel at the end of the tour. Not really an issue for us as the hotel wasn't that far from the Vatican. Christina took us up to the entrance of St Peters Basilica where we were left to enjoy our own time visiting St Peters. We were taken to the office prior to commencement of the tour staff in the office were very pleasant.

Simon, (Simonè in Italian) our tour guide was AMAZING! Perfect mix of knowledge, comedy and personality, but most of all kept the teenagers engaged and interested! Our kids (who really hate history tours) walked away smiling and really happy to have sat through a 3 hour tour! There wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer! Even if it wasn’t tour related, but related to the city itself. We couldn’t get a tour for the Colosseum on the day we went and after this, I wish I’d booked ahead as I don’t feel I walked away from the Colosseum with the same amount of knowledge as we did the Chapel tour. We loved every minute of it and recommend it to everyone! Make sure to ask for Simon! He really is a lovely tour guide and his English is perfect!

We were in Rome for Christmas 2019, our first visit to Rome. Wish there was a way to get the message out there for 1st time travellers to Rome how to source Vatican City visits as there is an overwhelming number of tours - and so difficult to pick, depending on reviews. Antonio our guide was a wealth of knowledge, both in history, facts AND ! anecdotes so our skip-the-line tour was well worth the price we paid (circa AUD70/person) and more. We did the morning tour and you meet at the Brastours office which would not be difficult to find, after hotel pick-up (stayed at Crowne Plaza St Peter’s) and after being armed with headsets and instructions; a short walk to the Vatican and our walking tour began by entering a side entrance and screening by security. We got to see the beautiful artwork in the museum, sat in the Sistine Chapel where for countless centuries, Popes were elected while looking at Michelangelo’s murals and finished off with St Peter’s Basilica. All along the way- Antonio provided us in great detail a wealth of info interspersed Hi with his own brand of humour via the headsets. He helped show us where to go to the Bronze door to collect our tickets to SIT inside the Basilica for midnight mass to be celebrated by the Pope, tickets we’d applied for in July and were blessed to obtain- for free, upon fax or written request only, no email). Hope the first timers get to see this review- have fun and enjoy!
