Neighborhood: Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

There are at least 10 similar fountains, by the same sculptor, in some districts of the city, all commissioned by the municipality of Rome to allow its inhabitants to always find fountains nearby where they could stop and drink pure and fresh water.
The Fontana della Botte is an evocative work of the sculptor and architect Pietro Lombardi who was commissioned some public fountains by the Municipality of Rome.
This work is located in Via della Cisterna, in Trastevere and is attached to a brick wall to which a travertine arch has been attached.
It consists of a base on which a barrel called "caratello" by the Romans was placed: this definition was given to the barrels that transported wine with wagons.
The water comes out of this barrel and pours into the basin below symbolized by a vat for must.
The barrel is flanked by two liter measures of wine (2 liter jugs) from which water flows out as well.
This fountain was built in 1927 with allusion to the characteristic of the Trastevere area where the wine trade was widespread since ancient times due to the presence of trattorias and taverns.
Lovely, but dirty, ruined and vandalizes by graffiti.
It needs to be cleaned and restored .

The fountain located on Via della Cisterna, framed in a travertine arch, that consists of a base with a wine barrel (“the keg”) from which the water pours into the vat. It was built in 1927 by Pietro Lombardi as a dedication to the area known for the wine trade since the ancient times.

Yesterday while visiting Trastevere I passed in front of this small fountain, dominated by a vertically placed barrel. The barrel was the symbol of the spirit of this area of Rome. The fountain is small, like the typical fountains in the center of Rome. However, yesterday nothing flowed from the fountain, neither water nor wine, probably due to the restrictions linked to the containment of water waste.
