Though the track is located next to a school and adjacent to Italy's premier sports facility, this is a public running track. I took a bike from the city center to the stadium and ran a track workout here. There is almost no information out there regarding if you can actually show up and rip some fast laps on the track without some type of reservation. The answer is yes, you can just show up and run with no cost or other process. That said, I'm sure there are rules, but I couldn't find them posted. The gate was open and I walked right onto the track for a short workout. This is very possibly the coolest running track in the world.

In summary 5 stars for the tennis tournament but only 3 stars for travel to site.
First ever visit to a major tennis tournament in my 72 years (excluding brief view of Rod Laver playing at Wimbledon in mid 70's). Bought decent ticket for one day with woman's quarter finals (Iga Swiatek playing )and mens last 16. This was bought online 48 hours beforehand on official site. My accommodation was in the southern part of the historical centre so about 5 kilometres to the Foro Italico, as the crow flies. The public transport suggestion would take about 1 hour about the same as walking all the way. I therefore decided to walk to Ottaviano Metro station to catch the 32 bus onwards. No such luck as when I arrived at the bus stop there were already about a hundred people waiting and no sign of a bus so like most decided to walk the rest of the way to make the 11 o'clock start. So allow plenty of time if wanting to do the same.

Great facility for the BNL Paribas Italian Open.! Took a taxi from our place in Trastevere, about 20 minutes for the Friday night session. Afterwards, it was near impossible to get a taxi. We were told to walk, and did about 15 minutes to a stand with no taxis. Tried to call, put on hold for many minutes. The app not working. Finally a taxi arrived after we called. Wasted a lot of time. Same situation on Saturday after day session; taxis difficult to reserve even by calling. Transportation could be better organized by taxi company. Overall, however the Foro Italico was a great venue for the tournament. Highly recommend it.

This was just an absolute joy... We had bought our tickets online and we arrived fairly early to explore before the match and had fun simply walking around. The site is just amazing, with towering statues of 'athletic gods' everywhere you go. The atmosphere was really happy and buzzy and the queues for food and drinks moved quickly, and once served, it was really good quality fayre. Once inside the 'centre court' we were so happy with our seats. In fact, you would struggle to find a bad seat inside the arena. Hawkers bringing cold beers to our seats was a real bonus, as it was a warm evening. We stayed on after the singles match for the doubles match and stayed until quite late at night. If you enjoy tennis, and you get the chance to go. Just go.

This was our first stop in Rome. I was very keen on seeing the sculptures featuring sports men. They were STUNNING. The place is so cinematic, the statues look amazing against the striking blue skies. It's such a homoerotic place. The statues are very sensual and in many cases they are looking at each other, really sensational, not to be missed. Also a great place to run. And it's free.

I've run on some nice tracks, including Stanford in California but this has to take the cake, wonderful environment and the track is in a great condition and apparently open at all times for everyone. Ideal conditions for some hard interval training, you wouldn't want to let down all these massive statues (and Pietro Mennea whose name is displayed in huge letters) ! Oh and it's an easy access from the cycle track along the Tiber so easy to get to from any part of Rome.

The stadium is attractive, with very interesting statues and other fascist-era architecture surrounding it. Great for photography. We spent about an hour just walking around and shooting pictures. The place was not crowded in late April and there were pockets of young people either exercising or just sitting around enjoying the shade and the relative calm. If you only have a few days in Rome, it's probably not the best side trip. But if you have a few extra days and are looking for some lesser known sites to check out.

Great stadium and atmosphere! A classic Roman forum inspired arena in the middle that reminds you of the ancient Rome.
Visited here several days to see the Tennis tournament (Internazionali BNL d'Italia). A wonderful clay court event, which rivals the French Open in many ways. If you want to see players up close, this is the place to visit. I have more reviews and HD photos if you google for "tennis bargains".

This is a spectacular sports setting, just by the river, and the Fascist era statues are so powerful that you can not stop looking at them. Their eyes seem to follow one, too, in an erie way. If you are coming for the tennis it is easy to take one of the public buses which stop right in front of the (temporary) ticket booth. My recommendation, if you are in Rome already, is to go before the main tournament begins, and avoid lines by picking up tickets in advance. I believe the ticket booth was set up on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the tournament. Otherwise, expect to stand in a rather haphazard line for about an hour. The Friday prior to the Sunday main draw is a training day...for a few euros you can check out the beautiful courts and art, sit in on the training session for tennis instructors, and see some of the top seeds working out. The training session for the instructors was entertaining...some of the little kids came out and demonstrated the drills on the court! Looking north from the stadium the landscape is wooded and hilly, very peaceful. Just across the river is a Metro station and numerous excellent restaurants.

Warning: do not try to go anywhere near the Foro if a soccer game is imminent! Bridges and road nearby blocked off by police, and traffic is practically at a standstill for all!

If you enjoy sculpture, as much as I do, Stadio dei Marmi in Rome is a treat not to be missed. Because it stands beyond the city's historic center, the Stadium of Marbles attracts few tourists. You can have the place to yourself, walk around freely. It is wonderful. The Stadio dei Marmi (Italian: "Stadium of the Marbles") is a sport stadium in the Foro Italico, a sport complex in Rome, Italy.
It was designed in the 1920s as a complement to the annexed Academy of Physical Education (now the seat of CONI, Italian Olympic Committee), to be used by its students for training. Originally designed by Enrico Del Debbio, construction was completed In 1928. It has Carrara marble steps lined by 59 (60 in the original project) marble statues in classical style portraying athletes, each offered by the provinces of Italy. The stadium was inaugurated in 1932. It hosted some of the field hockey preliminaries for the 1960 Summer Olympics.
The area where Foro Italico was built had once been owned by the Farnese family, and even as late the 1920s it was known as Prati della Farnesina. The complex is made up of other sporting venues, indoor and indoor swimming pools, tennis courts (clay and grass), basketball courts, running tracks, fencing halls and a gymnasium.
In the late 1920's, Mussolini assigned the building of this sports complex to Enrico Del Debbio. Originally it was named Foro Mussolini; after the Second World War the name was changed to Stadio dei Marmi, which can accommodate 20,000 spectators.
These 60 wonderful, colossal, white marble figures are gifts from an equal number of Italy's provinces. On the base of most the province's name is chiseled.
The 60 wonderful statues here are something for Rome to be proud of. The Italian people's and history's condemnation of the Fascist era ought not to detract at all from the works of art of that period, which should be preserved and cared for. Some of the works of male physical perfection are covered with a fig leaf, others are au naturel.
